Martin does the main vocals in this song, Dave, which is the rare thing and has only happened twice so far throughout the whole DM catalogue, does backing vocals on this one during the last chorus
I never really cared too much about the song but when I edited it out of a Violator playlist, it doesn’t gel. Violator is a fine album because every part is integral to the whole, like the chapters of a book. The pacing of the song dovetails perfectly between ‘World’ and ‘Personal’
Oh Seth! You disappoint me! After more than 100 DM reactions, you don't know the difference between Dave and Martin? It is Martin! Only him🙈 One of my favorite songs (one of hundreds of favorite songs of DM).
@@BackLooking but Songs of Faith and Devotion is David Gahan's magnum opus. No other album highlights his talent as a vocalist quite like it. If it had Blasphemous Rumors and Flies on the Windscreen on it it would be perfect.
@@WowUrFcknHxC I know, David´s vocals are amazing there. He especially points out Condemnation as his favorite. My favorite on the album is In Your Room. It´s a great album, but there are songs on the album I don´t care about. But there´s no such song on Violator 🙂 I know it´s just a matter of personal taste. It´s subjective. Blasphemous Rumors is a great song, but it wouldn´t fit on the album. The sound is somewhere else. They would have to produce it differently to fit the atmosphere. The sound on Songs of Faith.... album is next level.
Now the next one is very important Seph!!! I hope you read this comment. You need to do the Album Version of Personal Jesus even though there is an video for the singles the instrumental part the album version has is AMAZING
I hated the song first but after some time, it became one of my all time favourites. Give it some more time, and this is easily an A for you (maybe even an S).
You will have to react to the B sides from the different singles that are very good too ! Kaleid, Sea of Sin, Happiest Girl, Dangerous, Memphisto and Sibeling ;)
Yeah, it’s Martin singing all the parts of this song, like he did on Pimpf. Martin did a solo live tour once, with stripped down versions of some great songs, it must be on UA-cam somewhere, it was only a few dates and on this song had an orchestra backing him up.
Yeah, it is a pretty weird song, but at the end with those epic and strange sounds and with the back vocal makes this song stunning and epic! It needs a kind of mood, but I love it!
Martin!!!!! Is the singer It´s on of the everlasting best from DM, everytime I hear it, it gives me goosebumps. It´s perfect!!! It´s DM at it´s best, it´s all what a DM fan wants to hear from them. It´s music with different levels and sounds and that leads to deep feelings from happyness till euphoric.
thanks seph, was waiting the last days for some new ractions 🤪 I am surprised, some people think that Dave do some backing vocals... hmm, i am pretty shure that this is all sung by martin. But, don't know it really.... Hope you will upload next song today, can't wait for it😃 Ahh yeah, last thing: I remeber i liked the song from the beginning. But, with hearing it more and more, it became one of my favourite Martin songs on this album. But same to Blue dress later on this album 😬 At least for me, two bangers from martin here 😎
the low voice was Dave. He's actually a pretty deep baritone. The music is jarring because music today is so boring. This was when their creativity was at an all-time high, and they felt free to experiment.
Nope, it's not Dave, it's Martin here. His voice deepened over the years but it's still a lighter tenor compared to Dave's nasal baritone. And yes, the song is about your drug of choice and how it makes you feel whole for a while. If you are into heavier alternative music, Deftones perfomed an awesome cover in one of their early demos.
This song is the only one featuring Gahan in backing vocals, prove me if I'm wrong. The two are singing the same lines at the end, it's more noticeable in the DTS version. While this mastering is very clear, the DTS is much more vast and have a lot of density, especially at the end when the arpeg bassline is put on front. This song also shows that Gore's voice can go pretty low, as pretty high.
Actually if you listen to the demo of this song, the classical bit isn't in it. So they did add it at some point after they already got the basic structure of the song down.
it`s about the addiction/obsession of your choice :). and the production is bomb. extremely intricate. as is with all of violator, of course. the lead singer on this is martin gore. he has ”signature songs” on almost all the albums.
Another great song sung and composed by Martin. Good mixture with sounds. To me this song is a Little bit combination with synths and blues because of guitar :)
Hy there who is singing is Martin, backing vocals too, for my taste is the 3rd one from this álbum, 1 st one is Waiting for the night, 2d one Halo, 4 th Enjoy the silence 5th one Personal Jesus,,,,,
That orchestral interlude in the bridge aurally represents the euphoria of the drug or love high that Martin is singing about. Similar to the orgasmic backward sound effect that precedes the "World In My Eyes" chorus.
I just lent this album to my 18-year old nephew who is now into vinyl. When asked him what he thought, he and his 21-year-old brother immediately started singing this song. I didn't get a chance to ask if that was a good or bad thing!
Funny thing... i spent around 12 years thinking the name of the song was "The Sweetest Perfection"... even having the album and the CD blooket in my hands for years and honestly i have never noticed that the title was only "Sweetest Perfection" until a fellow DM fan point my mistake...
Still need to go on a tutorial of learning the difference between Martin and Dave, lol Its okay took us all a bit at first. As others have stated Dave sings a bit of the back round vocals on it but otherwise it is Martin. Going into this album I had hoped all us long time fans didnt over hype the album, easy to do on things sometimes, setting too high of expectations.
Deep, dark, moody, lustful... but that's just me. Great song though. Seriously though, this album is best on headphones and loud. The outro is epic. Phasing drum sound... perfect. For me this song is about anything the heart wants that's harmful to you.... you want it more !!!!.
Never heard this before. I think it's a DM grower ... Meaning? The delight/horror of falling in love/lust with someone? The double-edged sword of infatuation ...???
I was wondering why I skipped Violator and this is the reason ... Effin yawnsville. I was starting to go off them with Music For The Masses.. But when Songs Of Faith And Devotion came out .. That brought me back to Depeche .... That album and tour that broke the band. Recording of that album.. was a shambles.. They couldn't stand each other... But by Christ that it is an explosion (bigger than a banger) of an Album ... And tour.. Alan shines on that tour
@@SephPlays I don't know.. It just didn't appeal to me unlike Erasure's analogue sound at the same time. It's my least favourite on Violator. This is probably due to the fact it is so obviously about drugs and I have never been into drugs. On tracks like Never Let me Down Again or New Order's True Faith, at least one is able to imagine the subject is about something else...
I don't actually like this song. Looking forward to the next song. Personal Jesus. 😀 Try to find the album version as the ending of that is spectacular !
This album sounds best when you listen to it from start to finish without stopping ; it’s a journey that continues after each song ends.
Yes -- It's slightly painful to hear the end of this song and not hear the next iconic notes!
thats so true! They are telling a story, it´s art.
Dave sings on the final chorus ("Nothing can stop me, takes me completely, touches so sweetly, reaches so deeply"). Beautiful song
This entire album was perfection 🥰

Omg yeah!! I honestly thought it was dave!! To hear Martin sing this low is actually shocking!? Impressive! 😍
There's no weak Song on Violator.... it's my timeless favourite album of all artists
Songs of Faith and Devotion is still their best album

The other one is Macro from Playing The Angel
I've seen a video on UA-cam where Dave also sang with Martin on Home
Macro it's a album toi and live version only when Dave it's a vocal
Marty all the way.
One of my three favorite songs from Violator with Halo first and Personal Jesus in second ;)
Martin can do as high as Question of lust chorus and as low as Sweetest perfection chorus ;) and I think it's a grower.
Actually if you listen to the demo of this song, the classical bit isn't in it. So they did add it at some point after they already got the basic structure of the song down.
I think it's more about love for the perfect woman, nothing can be corrected or honed that would make her or the love for her better.
