  • A jet fighter finally made it's way on this channel. This kit was reasonably easy to build, has nice surface details, with the only fit issues being in the cockpit area. I had to shave off quite a bit of plastic from the inside of the canopy and had to actually bend this( 7:39 ) part before mounting. It was sitting way outside of the fuselage. I couldn't manage to make the transparent bits sit properly on the fuselage. They are a bit wider or the fuselage is narrower than it should be but you can't really tell now. The photos make it look worse than it is. The decals have the usual Trumpeter/Hobby Boss look and I had no problems with them. I chose not to use the stencils. They didn’t look right to me. For pain I used Revell Aqua, Ammo Mig and Tamiya acrylics, all thinned with Tamiya X-20-A, through my cheap airbrush. It was the first time using the One Shot Primer. It did clog my airbrush from time to time. I chose the Iraqi Air Force livery but didn’t go too far with the weathering. Only some highlights and a panel wash with oil paint. The marbling is still visible under the final coat of paint but doesn’t really come through in the pictures. In the end it was a nice build but I would try the Eduard MiG 21 in 1/48 scale if I ever want to build another one. Enjoy the video and see you soon!

Actual rubber tires? That's a nice feature.

A very good model! Congratulations! It's only my suggestion so please not take it personally but I would add a couple of scratches around the canopy frames and some hatches. Nevertheless, it was a pleasure to watch the video. Good luck!

Hey man. Thanks for the great comment. I agree with you, but I decided early on that I would keep it relatively clean. You can weather the Mig 21 just about as much as a Japanese ww2 fighter. I have seen photos of 21's with huge chunks of paint stripped off and all kinds of streaks and stains. Now one thing that is missing is the canopy seal and I might gather the courage to do it at some point. I'm happy you liked the video.

    Salut!
Nice kit but I would bet on Eduard's one blindfolded!
Looking forward to seeing one built here.
    Thanks for posting!

Salut. Maybe in the near future i'll pick one up. I actualy had my eye on the one with the Cuban livery. Thanks for watching.

The Cuban livery is a tricky one because you can't find many colour photos with Cuban MiGs in active service... And almost none of them is in good quality. Moreover, from what I was able to find, it seems that they painted their planes with what ever they had at hand.
The museum ones are not a very reliable source, unless you look closely at the cockpit photos, where you can see the multitude of paint layers in the very heavily worn up areas around the canopy.
      An interesting choice nonetheless! 🙂
Edit: I have the Eduard kit in my stash.

Actually this kit is better than the Eduard's. Much more definition here especially in the cockpit. I am talking of the weekend edition one, I have that too, and I like the Trumpy more
