P.S: The oil wasn't hot enough, that's why it broke & stuck to the kadai.
And most hash brown recipes have egg in them and are boiled before being grated.

Also, I’m pretty sure she overcooked the potato initially (when she boiled) so it basically turned into mash

The potatoes are pretty boiled because it's easy for it turn to mash after being grated.
I brought up the egg because she mentioned it not tasting the same.

Noooooo, I have an easier recipe AND it’s less time consuming y’all!
- peel and grate 4 boiled potatoes
- add salt, black pepper, 2 tablespoons of corn flour and garlic powder to the potatoes
- mix it to form a dough
- make hash brown shapes and fry the damn things

True. In the US you can use grated raw potato or leftovers from another meal. Make patties by hands and fry them in hot oil. So simple. 😉

I found an alternative- Burger King has hash browns (which are decent) and they are on all day menu!
Shreya didn't heat the oil in the Kadai properly, If she did so the hash browns will float and doesn't stick to the Kadai and as the oil isn't heated properly, putting hash browns in oil for too much long will absorb the oil and they won't be crispy instead they will be juicy😂 4:38

Par boil = partly boiled
So the potatoes are cooked, but not too soft so they retain some firmness. Just a little.
My Dad makes hash browns from scratch and they don’t take that long. He just sort of grates the potatoes, adds salt and pepper and fries them up in a little cake. He doesn’t boil them first.

I literally screamed when you boiled them 😭 I don't know who the hell told you to boil the potatoes but you don't eveeeeeeerr boil the potatoes, you just wasted all your efforts of soaking in water and straining 🥺 please just skip boiling the next time I promise it'll turn out good and they won't even stick to the pan 🥺

You need to wait till the oil comes to a good heat when the bubbles are visible then lower the temp then throw in the hashbrowns! It won't break... There you go... well it worked out anyway.. still just FYI 🙃

Shreya good effort for a novice cook. Things that would have made it easier a "box grater" or food processor with a grating blade attachment, allow the oil to get hot enough before putting your potatoes in to cook. Last but far from least take the time to understand cooking terms like par boil. Now for those of us outside India when you bust into your native language we know your most likely swearing so how about some sub titles LOL. BTW very surprised McDonalds in India are removing the hash brown patties from the menu one would think they are a best seller.
