Dear Luke It is wonderful for me that I have been able to watch this just now and be so heartened by the feelings and thoughts that you have shared here. I am writing my autobiography which will include of course why I wanted to bring Thomas to life on the screen in a way that would be comforting and fun and inspiring too. My very best wishes to you. Britt Allcroft
I'm currently a sophomore student in college, and whenever times get rough, I've found myself looking back at Thomas media and remembering the fond memories that I had with him being part of my childhood. We all were blessed to have been essentially raised by this show when it was made out of a place of passion and dedication before Mattel's corporate meddling. Happy 40th, Thomas.
Thomas the Tank Engine, we would like to say thank you. Thank you for all the good times you and your friends brought us. With every passing year, you never failed to bring every child, every family and every single Thomas fan a smile on their faces. You entertained us, you made us feel like we belong and most of all, you have inspired us to be what we are and where we are today. Your stories and adventures will never be forgotten. Happy anniversary Thomas. Here's to another 40 years and counting. 🚂📺💙
I am very grateful to be a part of this large dedicated fanbase and to have witness these stories of Thomas and his Sodor island friends for many years. Thank you, Thomas, for making an impact on my childhood and continuing to do so for the rest of my life.
No matter how old and mature I may become. Thomas is always going to be the one show that I'm the most grateful to have had it as part of my life. it was what helped me to get through many difficult situations. and it taught me many things
What I loved and still do love about Thomas Is that there was no other kids show like it at the time and there never will be. I never knew of another kid's show that was so grounded in reality and had so much charm and had so much heart and warmth and passion. I never knew of other kids shows especially in the '80s that looked like this, were written like this, sounded like this and felt like this. I knew no other kids shows about trains where the train characters actually looked and acted like real trains. Thomas the Tank Engine is something that most people today don't realize that there's a lot of merit behind this little train with a face. I will forever admire this show for its charming characters, picturesque sets calming narration, and gorgeous soundtrack until I die. Here's to 40 years.
I love it when some community is so nice to each other, has no boundaries and just expresses their joy for this show. Dont get me wrong, I am a chess player, minecraft player, grammar school student and judo fighter, but no other community will ever speak to me the way Thomas did. Love from Slovakia.
Thank you Thomas for being my childhood hero, bringing me fun no matter what the season or episode. Personally, there will never be a better show/book series than TTTE. Thank you Shumish ❤️💙
Thanks for sharing your story in this video mate! Really touching! I'm glad the Thomas Community has been a solid outlet for you where you get to be yourself truly without having to hold back like you were saying in your video. I totally understand how good that would feel to be in a community so understanding and accepting. It's so beautiful hearing all these stories of have Thomas made a difference in some many people's lives. I personally find it nicely surprising that so many Thomas fans are also Doctor Who Fans too. A fact that has popped up more than once which is so cool, like your Series 1 review you did a while back. (Which I really enjoyed by the way). Anyway, from one Thomas fan to another, I salute you! 😁
I also have autism (Asperger’s to be more specific) and whilst it is absolutely no where near as bad as yours sounds, I too have similar experiences. I was embarrassed to be related to Thomas the Tank Engine for a while (Thanks a lot, HIT & Mattel) and have only recently got back into the series thanks to The Unlucky Tug. I’m now in my second year at uni and have struggled a bit with the social side of it at times, but videos like yours have helped me chill out when I’m in my room with little to do. Thanks Luke
I can’t believe Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends is now 40 years old. Happy anniversary to our favourite train show, our lives would not be the same without it.
That's an interesting story, Luke. Thank you! I've also had a really significant Thomas faze as a small child. And my father also heavily promoted it. I loved watching the TV show, and I've had a very large layout of Plairail and Trackmaster toys. However, my love for Thomas faded away when I was about 9. The show was in it's Miller era, which wasn't really good. I was also bullied in school, and Thomas was one of these reasons. Interestingly, not long after I stopped liking Thomas, I got into Pokemon and, eventually, other Nintendo games. But that's a whole other story. Time passed, and things changed. My family basically fell apart, I've finished school and got into university. It really wasn't an easy time. And then came the year 2024. Many things have changed yet again. I've started visiting my father who had moved away from our home. I've watched a bunch of anime, including Neon Genesis Evangelion. But also 2024 was the year I've returned to Thomas. Many UA-cam videos made that happen, including yours, Luke.
Luke first I’d like to say thank you for sharing. I work with students who have Autism as a Special education teacher so I know just vocalizing your thoughts can be difficult at times. However, I can’t say with certainty I feel your love and passion for Thomas and friends just as much as I do. What’s funny actually is I don’t believe we’re that far apart in age I’m 26, yet your content and all the other Thomas and friends content from this great and friendly community has definitely helped in never forgetting one of the constant staples in my life. I’ll admit I still feel a bit unsure till today telling others who aren’t as familiar with me about liking Thomas. Hell my parents accepted I never let that part of my inner child die out. Lastly, wishing you good health, prosperity and many more fun videos ahead. If I ever get the chance to go to one of the yearly Awdry’s Extravaganza at the talyllyn railway, I’d love to meet in person. Cheers mate from here in California. 😊 Finally Happy Birthday Thomas & Friends for making tracks to great destinations and lifetime connections. 🎉
My very first introduction to “Thomas & Friends” has always been the VHS titled ‘Races, Rescues & Runaways’. Without that exposure, I wouldn’t have a personal favorite home media release, a show to watch on TV daily, several Thomas-related birthdays and a new passion for art. Happy 40th anniversary to our really useful engine and best of luck with your future content, Mr. Usual Bloke Luke!
I’m currently on a mission to collect every classic Thomas DVD to ensure that when I have kids, they can grow up with this amazing series. No matter what happens or how old I get, I’ll always have a soft spot for that little blue tank engine and his many friends.
Thomas has always been apart of me (even though I grew up with the HiT Era) First seeing it on a HiT Favorites, and then on PBS Kids, and then discovering the classic era on the Greatest Stories DVD. It’s so surprising that a blue tank engine with a face has really left a big impact on all of us. And despite its peaks and valleys throughout the years, it’s this show that has helped us cope with the difficulties we face. And great video, by the way.
Thomas was one of my childhood TV shows that got me interested Trains & model railways. I had everything Thomas merchandise and toys when I was a kid. ❤ Thank you Thomas.
Happy 40th birthday Thomas and Friends. This show was a big part of my childhood. I’m now 17 and til this day I watch this show. I’ve came across so many great people in this fandom and I don’t plan on leaving it anytime soon. Thank you to everyone who made this show and was apart of it. Also great video as always Luke
To me no matter how much the show changes, Thomas will always have a very special place in my heart. It’s one of the few shows (and not that I think about it the only kids show) for a long time that stuck with me for a long time. There will never be another show like Thomas, something about the blue train with a face invested me as a child and I’m glad it did. I can not imagine a world where Thomas and even the railway series to an extent never were published, but because of Thomas people like you and me got interested to learning about trains and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Happy 40th anniversary Thomas & Friends and I hope for another 40 years of Fun, Imaginative, Creative Stories! Keep on doing what you’ve been doing, your videos just keep getting better and better!
As someone also on the spectrum, Thomas always provided such a pleasant viewing experience. Very thankful to have this show be a part of my childhood and adulthood.
As a Person with autism as well I can say that I’m grateful to have been exposed to Thomas the tank engine when I was a baby and still continue to have Thomas and his friends in my life in the point of time. I’ve said this either on someone’s post or on my own post but “ my story started on sodor hopefully it’ll end on sodor “
Thomas has always been my number one Childhood show, along with my childhood mobile game Angry Birds, and to this day, I am still a fan of Thomas, and it will always will be Thanks a lot Britt Allcroft and Wilbert Awdry for creating my childhood show, and Happy 40th Anniversary to it :’)
Well said. It was Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends that got into trains in general when me and my brother were kids. Watching fan-made Thomas content in the late 2000s and the early 2010s is how I discovered UA-cam. I often enjoying watching Thomas content to this very day while at work, doing chores around the house, while working on my model trains, and when editing my videos.
Lovely video Luke I'm glad you found a group of people where you never have to put up any sort façde I wish I could find such a group I've been putting up a façde for weeks now due to a lot of stuff in my personal life
No autism here but a visual impairment from birth. Watched this as a kid. Had the same experience, I left Thomas as a teenager (obviously, girls and going out were the priority, not that I ever got any girls) but started watching the fan videos on UA-cam a few years ago and got back into it again. As someone who’s visually impaired I rely on audiobooks and was pleased to discover all the Railway Series books on UA-cam as audiobooks which revived my Thomas interest that I had as a kid. I started doing volunteer work at a charity shop and after a few weeks in February 2023, we had someone donate The Railway Series Complete Collection (which I bought as I knew exactly what it was as soon as I saw it) and ever since then I’ve been buying Thomas merchandise ertl and all the Railway Series books (including the Chris Awdry books and rare books like the IoS book) which has solidified my interest in Thomas now forever. I was exactly 6 months old when Thomas first came to the screen so I literally grew up with it
I'll always remember the first Thomas DVD I had ever seen. I was very young, and it was Thomas' Ultimate Christmas DVD. And from then on it clicked. I had always liked anthropomorphic vehicles (specifically cars) and Thomas just clicked. From then on I've loved Thomas, and have grown up with him in my life. I'll always appreciate Thomas and Friends for what it's done for me throughout my life. As a bit of added detail, the earliest memory I have of owning a TWR train was in fact Jack Frost (Percy). Not specifically a show fact, but a neat little fact about me :)
The show taught me to “be useful” not to just sit at home with my thumb up my arse, especially recently now I’m working. Plus I’ve noticed the show is really popular for with Autism, like myself.
Wow, you’re backstories was heartbreaking to proud and confident. I am sorry about your cat. I get it… you just wanted to not feel alone anymore. Life sucks… but alittle charm of your video… with Thomas and Friends model era (only series 1 to 12, but not 6,9,11.) can help the diamonds shine alittle brighter. Making the 💩 more clearer and less boring. You’re help me and many other people who may or not have autism. Thank you Luke! Golden Video!
Thank you for making great video's and being so much fun to watch. You are so funny and I love watching your reviews of thomas seasons they are so informative and just fun to watch and relax too when I want to destress. Thank you for all the hard work to do and i cant wait to watch what else you do in the future.😊
Glad to be part of the Thomas fandom as Percy Takes the Plunge (the story my grandfather read to me as a child) taught me about obedience and following orders. Speaking of which, Percy Takes the Plunge was the most memorable story/episode my grandfather is fond of.
Thank you Thomas for introducing me to steam trains and many types of genres through its story telling. And I'm sorry to hear about your cat. My cat also died in 2021 and I kept it in for three months until I finally let it all out in early December 2021 with the worst emotional breakdown of my entire life.
2004: little two year old Harry was first diagnosed with autism Also in 2004: Harry discovered the 20 year old series of Thomas via a compilation video from ABC For Kids 2024: Harry still loves the series he was brought up with all of these years ago despite being a full grown adult.
Weirdly specific Thomas memories I have: Trying to recreate Thomas and Gordon's conversation from the opening of TATMR using their Tomy models (still have 'em, although Gordon is very much yellowed like my Edward) Getting a Wooden Railway Mavis as a reward for doing well on toilet training watching a UA-cam video in the late 2000s in which a Plarail Bulgy ascended a series of road loops while a song that sounded like "da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da" played Watching "Best Friends" and "Heave Ho Thomas" on PBS Seeing a 2009 Let's Go Thomas at a 2012 Day Out with Thomas event Trying to watch "Toby and the Whispering Woods" in private so my parents wouldn't notice (they were pretty chill about it) Buying an absurd amount of Miller era Wooden Railway models (Scruff w/ garbage truck, Flynn, Belle, Dash, Bash, Ferdinand, Hiro, Victor, and Kevin) from a local mom and pop toy shop without much knowledge on who those characters were the same day I adopted my two cats Seeing that Mike, a character who I'd only known through his Take Along model, made it into the show Making my final TWR and Take-n-Play purchases (Paxton and the 2015 Day Out with Thomas truck for TWR; Porter, CGI Toby, a teal Troublesome Truck and Luke for TnP) Drawing comparisons between the experimentals from JBS and the Off Colors from Steven Universe while on the way to the movies in 2017 Watching Tug's "BWBA bad" video during my freshman year of college in my roommate's girlfriend's house
As an autistic adult I agree that Thomas helped and continues to help me with my autism. 2016 was a rough year for me. I had a HUGE meltdown. I don’t know what happened that triggered it (probably because 2016 was just a sh*t year in general for me. That year I lost my best friend to DV) put on some classic episodes and a magical thing happened. I managed to calm down after screaming and crying for 3 hours. I’m still trying to find my purpose. I mean….. there’s got to be more to life than slaving away at a McDonalds right? Perhaps our little blue E2 friend can help me find mine much like he’s helping me stay sober (I’m a week and 2 days now!) I definitely need to fly out to the Talyllyn railway for sure sometime perhaps for the Awdry Extravaganza. I have to give a huge shoutout to the Rev. W. Awdry himself as without him none of us would be here. Thank you Mr. Awdry….. thank you 🥲
As a kid I had friends who were also Thomas fans. However as an adult it was not a positive for me to still be a Thomas fan. That's why it's been an honor to discuss so many Thomas Youtoube creators such as yourself. This is a goal of mine when I can buy and figure out how the tech software. I am a huge fan of your content.
Thomas certainly helped me inspire me to do something. It certainly made a big impact on me. What would I ever do without him? And in high school, I was never embarrassed at talking about it, many people accept me for talking about Thomas the Tank Engine because they grew up with it too and they’re very tolerant.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY THOMAS!!!!! edit: Yo! I'm a Sonic/Thomas fan too! I'm more inclined to say sonic is better though because I'm more of a gamer, but Thomas is still my favorite show, and I'm proud of it.
Ive always wondered about what got me into Thomas from when I was a smol boi. I sometimes fantasize my parents shopping things for baby me and wonder what is something that I can watch and play with to keep me entertained and thought Thomas was a good idea. Im sorry about your cat Luke... 🐈😔
Happy 40th Anniversary to Thomas! I wish they continued to adapt stories from the Railway Series into the TV series. I find it odd that Britt and David stopped adapting the stories after Wilbert Awdry died in 1997 and made original stories instead. I'd recommend checking out this video about how the classic series would be if they continued adapting more RWS stories ua-cam.com/video/hgblCfL2APk/v-deo.html
Dear Christopher, Here your friend Thomas The Tank Engine. He wanted to come out of his station yard and see the world. Those stories tell how he did it. I hope you will like them because you helped me to make one Your Loving Daddy
I’m glad to be a part of this community and I’m glad to hear all these stories about Thomas and Friends and its audience.
Thank you Thomas. Thank you Wilbert, Britt, David, Mike, Junior, etc.
Don't forget about Andrew Brenner
@@DarthVader-ye1deThe one that changed the entire series just before BWBA existed
I'm currently a sophomore student in college, and whenever times get rough, I've found myself looking back at Thomas media and remembering the fond memories that I had with him being part of my childhood. Happy 40th, Thomas.

Beautiful video man, this series is so special, and I love hearing what you have to say
I can’t believe Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends is now 40 years old. Happy anniversary to our favourite train show, our lives would not be the same without it.

Happy 40th anniversary!
I’m glad Thomas was apart of my childhood and I’m glad that the fandom for it exists too
Dude, I almost teared up watching this video.
This was such a good video! Good job Luke! I’m such a fan of your Thomas video!
Happy 40th anniversary to Thomas the Tank Engine! I remembered this show when I was young and I still like it as of today.
2004: little two year old Harry was first diagnosed with autism
Also in 2004: Harry discovered the 20 year old series of Thomas via a compilation video from ABC For Kids
2024: Harry still loves the series he was brought up with all of these years ago despite being a full grown adult.
Weirdly specific Thomas memories I have:
Trying to recreate Thomas and Gordon's conversation from the opening of TATMR using their Tomy models (still have 'em, although Gordon is very much yellowed like my Edward)
Getting a Wooden Railway Mavis as a reward for doing well on toilet training
watching a UA-cam video in the late 2000s in which a Plarail Bulgy ascended a series of road loops while a song that sounded like "da-da-da, da-da-da, da-da-da" played
Watching "Best Friends" and "Heave Ho Thomas" on PBS
Seeing a 2009 Let's Go Thomas at a 2012 Day Out with Thomas event
Trying to watch "Toby and the Whispering Woods" in private so my parents wouldn't notice (they were pretty chill about it)
Buying an absurd amount of Miller era Wooden Railway models (Scruff w/ garbage truck, Flynn, Belle, Dash, Bash, Ferdinand, Hiro, Victor, and Kevin) from a local mom and pop toy shop without much knowledge on who those characters were the same day I adopted my two cats
Seeing that Mike, a character who I'd only known through his Take Along model, made it into the show
Making my final TWR and Take-n-Play purchases (Paxton and the 2015 Day Out with Thomas truck for TWR; Porter, CGI Toby, a teal Troublesome Truck and Luke for TnP)
Drawing comparisons between the experimentals from JBS and the Off Colors from Steven Universe while on the way to the movies in 2017
Watching Tug's "BWBA bad" video during my freshman year of college in my roommate's girlfriend's house
Love ya Thomas, Thanks for being a really useful engine and a friend to all.
Happy forty years
As an autistic adult I agree that Thomas helped and continues to help me with my autism.
I am a huge fan of your content.
truly awesome luke
Thomas certainly helped me inspire me to do something. It certainly made a big impact on me. What would I ever do without him?
And in high school, I was never embarrassed at talking about it, many people accept me for talking about Thomas the Tank Engine because they grew up with it too and they’re very tolerant.
You and tug posting your feels on thomas within hours of eachother. Y'all should collab more.
Closest we got was them offering silly faces for Thomas Theorist's recent video on The Transporters.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY THOMAS!!!!!
edit: Yo! I'm a Sonic/Thomas fan too! I'm more inclined to say sonic is better though because I'm more of a gamer, but Thomas is still my favorite show, and I'm proud of it.
Same here!!!
Ive always wondered about what got me into Thomas from when I was a smol boi.
I sometimes fantasize my parents shopping things for baby me and wonder what is something that I can watch and play with to keep me entertained and thought Thomas was a good idea.
Im sorry about your cat Luke... 🐈😔
Thank you so much Britt Allcroft and Wilbert Awdry for creating my childhood.
2 reasons for me
1. Religion
2. Thomas & Friends
Happy 40th anniversary
But I came to Thomas in 2008 or 2009
Dear Christopher,
Here your friend Thomas The Tank Engine. He wanted to come out of his station yard and see the world. Those stories tell how he did it. I hope you will like them because you helped me to make one
Your Loving Daddy
where do i get a ticket to Sodor
I mean, I have mild autism but I don't think that's what got me into the original series.
Take a shot every time usual bloke says “uh”
You won’t make to the end of the video
And that is why I will never do a livestream 😂
