It's a bit different as it's more of an overall term for "shut-in" people but in Japan they have a term called "hikikomori", I'm sure incels would fall under this. It's gotten so bad in Japan that they make videos of pretty women to teach these "hikikomori" eye contact, and to basically just encourage young men to get out and find someone. Japan is an aging population as the birth rate is extremely low, so they are getting desperate...... Mind you, what also doesn't help is the fact that there is so much stress put on kids and workers in Japan, people are so overworked to the point that they have invented desks that fold out into beds so people can have little naps at the job. They are pushed to succeed way too hard... No wonder why they have the infamous "suicide forest".
As much as I love Japan and their culture/language, it's really disheartening to learn about these issues. I hope it will get better ;-;
There are many lonely shut ins out there, a lot of countries now have their version of "hikkiomori". It's been an invisible problem for generations. It's not just a Japanese thing. It's been happening in the west too. It's just less socially acceptable and carry's a lot of stigma.
I believe the ones Issac is talking about are really a small subset of younger, misled ones who are getting negative attention.
Problem is, it will look bad on the majority who do not have violent tendencies. People make ignorant assumptions and generalize and stereotype. People will just assume no friends, isolated, can't find a partner, poor social skills as a bad thing and avoid that person, depriving them of ever developing social skills.

It's a bit scary to hear about the violent side of these incels, but of course I don't think people should group EVERY single one of them together like they're all going to be violent. I think most are depressed and suicidal and need help.

As someone who is autistic themselves and still a virgin, I don’t blame woman at all, I started to go the gym recently, I always been a chubby kid but in the future I plan to become fit to become more attractive.
Edit: After seeing the comments I wanna clarify something, I know going to the gym isn’t a one way ticket to getting a girl, this is real life not some corny anime where any guy with muscles pulls every girl in sight, I just think being healthier and fitter will help with my confidence which in turn will sort of help to eventually find the one.

I think society pushing the idea that virgins are all violent will only perpetuate the issue. I don't think simply being a virgin makes someone violent, it's mostly the way society views virgins and how they're treated for being virgins. Also, touch starvation actually changes your brain. Like it scientifically makes people crazy. Humans crave touch and no one should be starved so much to the point that they go crazy and cause violence. Yes, it is up to the incel to make changes to things they can control, HOWEVER society needs to meet them in the middle. Also society needs to rethink how they view autistic people. Be more accepting of the of the fact that they aren't neurotypical. A lot of them crave connection, why starve them? The internet can be so wonderful and beneficial. Just think about those videos if guys going around and cleaning up overgrown yards for free. It helps the occupant of that place, helps the community and the person doing the act makes a boatload of money off it from people watching the videos for free.
I won't argue the positive things that come from it. It is definitely more broad spectrum in terms of reach and ability to connect with communities across the world. That used to be a penpal situation.
However, can we say the pros outweigh the cons?
In most recent years, it feels like the good is more of a spectacle and rare, examples like you pointed out. Lots of benefit in your example but then it feels like it is stacked with two negatives in contrast. Not referring to the situation you gave note to, but in ratio to those types of videos.

Not every person is amazing amazing..
This problem is much more deep seeded. The self hate (low esteem) originates in formative years; from failure to individuate, be socially accepted/established. This leads to a poor identity forming based around shame and feelings of powerlessness - a rejection of others because in essence there has been a rejection of self. These dark thoughts are in effect trying to restore (artifically) a sense of control and feelings of worth. The people they hate (women), are a representation of the care providers in formative years (parents/mother) who did not give the love needed, creating a perception of feeling abandoned/neglected/rejected. Mother is the primary relationship (from being in the womb), she is also the last line of defense. If mother "failed" you, what hope do you have?
This present day behavior is their way of trying to medicate themselves because no one was there to provide and teach self esteem in a way that would go onto developing their own self care and independence. Hence they gravitate towards these groups in search for kinship and can then build an emotional narrative around victimhood which helps to provide a (false) identity that is "special" and then they feel better about themselves. The group become trauma bonded to one another. The more victimized a person feels, the more they become entitled, "seen", and self absorbed (consumed). The obsession and focus on women is a direct comparison to the wounding felt from mother; "Women don't like/love me" = "mother doesn't like/love me". The attacks/jabs are in proxy being directed towards mother. This is what they learnt as "love", so recreating the setup feels natural and normal to them; "mother didn't love me how I needed, so I resent her".
To some degree society did fail these men (it failed mothers/women as well), however that does not excuse. The trouble is that they do not know how to be responsible for themselves (weren't taught or given the opportunity) and so externalize their locus of control and blame others. They cannot take ownership of themselves (nor want to) due to the shame and rejection of self. All of this means they're stuck with a narrative to keep them company. It may appear as toxic masculinity, but really it is a lack of masculinity; unable to became actualized men. It is a stunted childhood that became toxic.

No, it's not. Their inability to adapt stunts any potential they might have. If, instead, they went outside and participated in something anything, they could gain the knowledge that is required to get a partner. Instead, they do nothing but sequester themselves away and rage online that some woman who does not know them will not move mountains to worship them. It's not an excuse. Think of yourself as a story character. How interesting could that character be if they never went on an adventure?
I also want to add tha they seem to fancy only model-like women, not the chubby girl with hairy legs and unibrow. The "founder" of this "movement", Elliot Rodger, kept a journal and wrote a manifesto before his killing spree that is revealing about the distorted perception of reality and gross mismatch with expectations. These men need therapy to address these problems and learn to love themselves in a healthy and more positive way.

I’m a gay man, and I’m privy to a world where I encounter many self loathing gay men that also feel resentment towards other gay men, usually because they themselves are single, lonely, and no one is interested in them sexually/romantically.
I’m of the opinion that every single one of us comes to a critical crossroad in our lives when we are rejected, or otherwise don’t get what we would like from our interactions with other people. At this critical crossroad either we, like what these incels do, blame the world on why we are lonely or single, growing increasingly resentful because it’s “your fault”, or we choose to have the courage to look within and see for ourselves the hard work we need to do on ourselves and our lives. Self assessment and self correction seem to be dying qualities in our TikTok age, oh and most definitely a lack of humility.
It's like if someone is chronically unemployed and resentful at all those getting hired and successful. It's not just about a partner. It's feeling accepted in the world and able to "fit in". Some just can't do the social dances properly and just give up.

Interesting. As a 34 year old incel myself, when I was younger I didn't see the logic in being violent because I couldn't get laid or get a date. My outlet was sports, friends, fitness, school work and gaming. When I didn't find a partner, it came when I lease expected it and last 8 blessed years. Lost my virginity to that young woman, but the key aspects of the relationship was worth more than meaningless intercourse. That's what I learned about being my own incel. People tend to paint us as these losers who can't do x nor y, but we are just people wired different. Just a sentance or two. It's not a 10 minute conversation. For example it's summer and you go into the store and say "I just burned my arm on the latch plate this heat is unbearable". Or you're at the gym and someone is strong and you say "leave some weights for the rest of us" or "can't believe we lost last night I'm never watching football again I just get my hopes up and we lose like we always do". Say something. It's that easy and then you become good at conversations because you learn some patterns and you have some story ready or a joke or something but you won't be a brain dead zombie who plays games all day and watches *orn all day thinking it's the fault of all the women that you're an unbearable creepy guy who can't even speak to someone and make it a positive interaction. You're not forcing it. It should come naturally. It feels good it's not like you're forcing yourself to do it. You'll enjoy it when you get the hang of it.

These struggle sessions we're supposed to find empowering and necessary when organized for women and minorities.
I went 11yrs with no GF then had one for 3yrs and she cheated. I got an opportunity to love in Singapore for work the girls were on tap and no issues. That's when I went home with more confidence and realized those 11yrs I wasted and had many girls that like me just be brave and talk to them.
