I use to do this when I first became natural. I was co-washing daily. My hair grew to my waist. The only reason I stopped was because I became lazy 😂. This method does work for some naturals.
I love cowashing, and I’ve done it before in the past, but it used to irritate my scalp. That was before I started water washing and scritching and preening my scalp before applying the conditioner. Now I’ll add it if my hair needs it or I’ll just jump straight to the leave in and that’s been such a time saver.
I’m a newly once a week washer (anywhere from every 5 days to 14 days)….coming from someone who was regularly pushing for 2-4 weeks. It helped my hair / scalp grow and heal so much. We gotta change the stigma on washing our hair more frequently and do what works for us. I couldn’t do daily, but i admire ur sticking to it.
I also started washing every 5 days down from 2-3 weeks. It’s been less than 3 weeks of this new routine and my scalp has healed tremendously and is growing in fuller on the sides. I luv it here. I am taking a lot of before and after photos through the process and keeping a journal in the hopes of sharing my findings online
True. I've been washing my hair every 5-7 days for the past two years, and I have tightly coiled 4c hair. I also don't put oils on my hair or scalp anymore, and I no longer suffer from a flaky scalp. My hair also doesn't break any more and the shedding is minimal.
13:12 Also if you're daily washing there's no need to strive for perfection since you don't need to make sure your hair lasts a full week! You can focus on hair health instead of appearance while still looking good!
@@LethalLemonLime exactly! I do like the coil definition so I do strive for that but if it doesn’t look the way I want it to I don’t stress because I’m literally gonna do my hair tomorrow
Once a month shampooing is all I need to do since I only use oil in my scalp 3x a week. I am waist length approaching tailbone length. Glad you found what works for you
After seeing this and reading through the comments, O. M. G! At my big age this makes me happy and I’m gonna start washing my hair daily. I always said to myself “I’m told to not wash my hair often but my hair is always at its best when I wash it often.” And that narrative made me insecure about washing my hair b/c it wouldn’t grow and is always dry! I was so constricted smh! I knew it was ok to wash or wet my hair everyday! 🙄❤ thank you!
5:26 - Hi from France :) idk if its useful to share but for my 3yo daugther with 4c type, first I saturate her hair with concentred thick natural mucilage (last sunday was flaxseed) to detangle easily an quick ( I precise that i've never use comb or brush on her hair, only my fingers). The definition goes from the roots to the ends. I let it sit about 15min then I apply directly the shampoo on the mucilage, I don't rinse it before. The hair is still very defined and it doesn't tangle. I focus cleaning the scalp. I rinse abundantly without touching the hair. The hair is still very defined from the roots to the ends. Then I directly apply a little amount of black castor oil (we say Carapate here), I twist, put directly a pure 100% natural silk scarf, she goes to sleep and it stays moisturized for the whole week.
I put argan oil gel to seal the castor oil butter or cream while hair is weight and I notice healthier hair and strong definition to the point people ask me now is it really my hair. Lol. I now apply oil to hair and scrub and massage and comb through before I clarify, like my daughter and I notice hair easier to comb and less comb breakage.
I cleansed daily when I went natural in 2012 after my big chop. I was following Mahoney Curls back then and did co-washing only. I never used gels, only conditioner to define my WNG. I don't have a scalp issue. My hair grew quickly. I stopped daily cleansing when my hair reached mid back length. My hair is waist length now, I shampoo and condition weekly.
Hey there. Great video. After big chopping 6 months ago, I started daily "wetting" my hair. Shampooing or co-washing as needed, but water washing at least 3 times per week. Like you, I had the irritated scalp whether my hair was clean or dirty and the daily wetting/washing/or co-washing has been a game changer, not only for my scalp issues, but my curls pop more than they did when I washed once per week. I am also seeing record growth by daily washing. Most days, when I'm done, I use a leave-in conditioner and air-dry (since I don't have to leave the house regularly). Thanks for sharing!
Hey just a heads up, the sound is a little off for those using earphones/headphones. Personally, I almost only hear it through my left earphone. Now let me get back to watching this video 🍿
It’s the same for me as well! But it’s sounds normal when it cuts to an ad, but the. Shifts back to my left ear. I can hear the background music on my right ear but not what she’s saying if I take out my left earpod 😅😂
@BrittanyMia You're welcome! The video was great btw. I'm glad you're coming back with new content cause I already binged your whole channel lol. I can't wait to follow your journey (even if it's not about hair) 🫶🏾!
Cleansing daily made my hair grow like a WEEEEEDDDD the last time I big chopped. This time around since I big chopped couple weeks ago, I may just do that again because right now it’s sooo short and hard to handle. Thanks for the reminder! #HairGrowth ❤
This video was so helpful!! I wash my hair twice a week and have been doing so since Oct 2024 but I'm ngl, I find it super tedious. My routine I do for weekday wash versus the routine I do for a weekend wash is shorter, however, this made me realize I don't need to do so much. I personally don't have any scalp issues and my scalp is normal - not dry or oily so I can get away with shampooing once instead of twice, during the weekdays. I can also get away with skipping a rinse out conditioner after since I'll only be using a moisturizing shampoo that day and my hair won't be stripped from a single wash. This actually makes me excited to wash my hair knowing I can make it so much faster! This is why I love hearing other people's ideas cause maybe I would've figured this out later on, but now I don't have to lol.
I used to wash my every 3 days because it thrived like that, and i honestly it was less about me needing to wash it and more about me being excited to do it and struggling to wait a full 6 days, especially within the first 6-8 months of cutting my hair to my scalp. Its grown out decently over the last year, and i now wash once a week. I cant go longer than that, or else my hair is desert dry. Now that its longer and requires styling, i definitely dont see myself washing my hair every 3 days. It was fun while it lasted
Oooh!!! The joy of having the short length freedom to wash your scalp everyday!! The integrity of my hair has changed drastically since I moved from Brasil. I really never struggled with itchness or flakyness on my scalp and splits on my ends, that bad, before... For reference I have fine virgin type 3 curly hair. I really like your Channel, I always take something to try and test. Now, if Im washing, Im shampooing. But the hard water, the dry weather, and the busy lifestyle (sometimes going over 7 days without cleansing), had me going in a overshampooing route bcuz I thought I had to deeply oil my hair all the time. If you are able to cleanse without shampoo, I envy you so much!! At least, until I get my scalp back into a balance (its been 2 years) I did and will implement a few things (te focus is on the scalp health) 1. Detoxed for a few days on a row, with a clarifying and a gentle shampoo (they both had sulfate) I did it in a as needed basis for the clarifying one, bcuz detox shampoos today can be quite well formulated and balanced to be able to go 1 week in a row with it. Mine was too stripping. Just that, (and the shower filter) was a game changer for me. 2. To help me regulate my sebum production, to hydrate and aliviate the soreness on my scalp, I will start using a tonic, after washing (in clean hair), and then every other day before sleeping, and then eventually everyday ( I bought an alcohol based tonic). I've been using the Living Proof dry scalp treatment and I love the cooling sensation it gives me, it's very hydrating. I like It. Not many people remember or talk about the tonics, I dont know why.. 3. Always always always pre poo to not strip my hair so much. And, of course, the hydrating shampoo in between washes, is also a game changer but we already knew that. So yeah, if anybody got to this point, you're amazing, so sorry for the bible!!
I wash once a week. The way my scalp is set up I could honestly push it to 14 days but I’ve come to love and look forward to my wash days, specifically the DC step. I don’t water wash but I do drench my hair using the prayer hands method, in water for a good 2-3 minutes while also agitating my scalp. And im not afraid of my water being on the warmer side. Washing with Lukewarm/ cool water just leaves “wash out” products glued to my strands and that makes my styling products feel weird on my hair😮💨😭
Brittany, you and your hair are so gorgeous! This is my first time seeing your channel. I see that you post hair videos, but can you post a video of you playing the guitar or bass behind you? 😊 So happy to have come across your channel!
I know a few people have mentioned it. This sounds like the Anthony Dickey Method. That method has definitely worked for me. My wash day is typically on Saturday or Sunday and I do a deep conditioning sometimes a treatment mask. Monday and Tuesday will be a co-wash day. Typically by Wednesday my scalp needs a cleaning and I will wash and Thursday and Friday will be a co-wash. I also have colored hair with highlights and my hair feels soft. When I get my hair cut my ends look good. I also keep my hair short in a tapered cut. I love the feel of water on my scalp daily. Your cut and color looks good on you. Thanks for a great video.
Brittany I love the color of your hair. It compliments your skin tone very well. I shampoo and condition my shoulder length hair once a week and twist for a twist out. I shampooed or co-washed every day when my hair was still in its TWA stage.
In winter I wear my hair covered with a scarf or my fur hooded coat when outside in winter wind. Northern winter will destroy your hair no matter how much sealing you do. Ladies keep hear covered when outside if temp is below 70 degrees or you will get breakage.
Wow! I have hands in hair syndrome and i crave manipulating my hair. This daily method here will be a great way for me to connect with my hair in a gentle hydrating way daily. Praise God for answering my prayer for a solution to playing in my hair. I want rapid growth.
I co washed daily for a long time. It eventually caused contact dermatitis. I didnt have flaky or scaling, however I did experience massive shedding and and incredibly itchy scalp. The comstant scrarxhing also caused my to shed even more ( i weighed mynshed hair at every wash day) I only use conditioner and a heavy oil to de shed and then shampoo the same day. I dont use a store brough leave in to moisturize-only 50/50 aloe juice Nd water. Avocado oil and grease the day I shampoo and maintain with jojjoba oil and grease. That is all Itchy is now at an all time low. I might look into the water oil on my scalp on the off weeks. I have to use a shampoo on the length because i like to start with a clean slate
I used to “wash” my hair everyday when I was in hs. But the catch was I only truly washed with shampoo 1-2x a month the other days I was co-washing. I didn’t necessarily have a co wash since co washing wasn’t a thing yet so I would quite literally just wet my hair, condition it, and rinse it out and shake so my curls could POP. It worked. Then I would add my gel I did this like every day.I used oils and butters to moisturize and that was it. But I wore my hair short because my 4b curls popped the most when shorter, so I was cutting my hair but my hair was growing super fast that way. I wish I could go back to that way of living but honestly I was super amped for the perfect curls and I liked how my looser (wet) curls looked. My obsession was rooted in texturism. Once I stopped being so anxious about my hair my journey became a lot more intimate and clarified. I’ve recently revisited my relationship with heat by heat training my hair because I’m super in love with pixies but I do not want to sacrifice my curls with a relaxer.
I'm def a frequent shampooer/daily shower drencher and have been over 20yrs. Its the best way to manage my hair and keep it at the peak of health. My hair is so moisturized from the daily hydration, I literally just use a leave in to style, w a light oil on top during winter (I'm in Chicago). It has somehow permanently defined my hair, so I don't need stylers. I keep it short these days, but I've been doing this since my hair reached my brastrap unstretched. I believe many of the issues naturals face simply come from not hydrating the hair enough. I've never had problems w detangling, slow growth, knots, breakage, dryness etc. I think that's mainly bc I drench my hair everyday, use conditioner to style instead of heavy products that suffocate the hair & scalp, and am no stranger to an every other day shampoo. Hair can't thrive in a dirty environment so if it's kept clean, it will flourish. Your hair is absolutely GORGEOUS btw 💕💚
Brittany, thank you! I have 4c hair and I shampoo & condition every 3-4 days. I’m basically maintaining the length of a TWA. My hair loves water and I ❤ clean hair … win win lol! Currently using Tea Tree & Rosemary Refreshing Shampoo and Tresemmé Rich Moisture Hyaluronic Infusion Conditioner🌺
When I did water only washing for about 3 months a while back, my hair thrived. I'm sure Adam and Eve and those in that day did not have shampoos to use. It took a little time for my hair to get used to just water, but when I stayed consistent, I was shocked at the results. My hair is 4c cotton hair that dries out very easily. But when doing the water only method, giving it time to work, my hair was softer and thicker with more length. I will also say that during this time, I did not manipulate my hair or add product but kept it covered with stylish scarves, water washed in sections, and did a little trim when needed. I couldn't believe the growth and softness of my hair with no product. Others saw it as well when I finally did wear my hair back out. I did eventually go back to using certain products but discovered that I did not need as much product on my hair as I thought. Less was better. I will be going back to it for a while to get that hydration back in my hair. Most store bought products made my head itchy. Water Only eliminated it. At the time, I was viewing Wateronlywashing videos on youtube who inspired me to do this.
My hair is happiest when I ‘wash’ it every day. I give it a good rinse, make sure I get out all the product then throw in conditioner and let it sit while I wash my body. I then style with leave in and gel, either UFD or kinky curly. I find those two rinse out of my hair pretty easily. I shampoo every weekend. That’s when I’m on my game. Given that we like the same gels, I’d like to know what leave ins give you non-gel results that you can live with. I’d love to slap some leave-in , dry and go. I’m also interested in your plopping routine. Please say more about that. I’d love to see it and know what towels you use.
My favorite right now is the kinky curly knot today. I didn’t think it would, but it does give nice results specifically after cowashing. If I water wash/rinse and go straight in with it, it’s not as sculpted as it would be, after letting the conditioner sit in my hair, shaking my head with the conditioner in and then rinsing the conditioner out and applying the leave in conditioner. I’ve also enjoyed the pattern beauty Palo Santo leave in conditioner along with the Mizani 25 miracle cream. A pretty expensive one I unfortunately fell in love with after I randomly purchased out of curiosity is the Bumble and Bumble three and one conditioner that can be used as a rinse out and leave-in but I only use it as a leave-in since it’s so expensive. I like the way it gives a bit of hold to the curls while being very conditioning. It also smells so good.
This is where I’m leaning with my hair…I also see a lot of comments about people saying they do this but not a lot of content. I recently moved to a much colder climate for grad school so between the cold and being a busy student I’ve been ‘protective styling’ but I miss my curls and wash n go so much 😅
It’s not a wash n go, but have you tried really small flexirods? They last 1-2 weeks and kinda look like a wash b go depending on ur hair texture if you separate it enough.
@@mrod87 hmmm I've never been good at rods😂 I was thinking of trying finger coils. I also think I have to just shift my mindset...if I have time to shower everyday then I have time to do my hair in the way that I want to present myself to the world, right??? IDK lol
I get on UA-cam all the time searching for daily cleansing or daily co-washing content, and I can only find things from like 5+ years ago. There are a few videos that I found last year about people shampooing their hair daily, but I want more content around type for daily wash and go styling, so I guess I’ll just be that 🙂↕️
@@NaturallyStellie93 yea i mean…i had to do a whole hair rebrand this year so i get it. Leaning in to ease helps A LOT. Ease and then aesthetic. I decided to commit to roller/rod sets as my main styling, oil pre pooing and weekly washes. I feel like bc i reset my hair every Friday or Saturday my hair always looks good, but im also manipulating it literally just once a week, not daily, it works for me.
I do everyday or every other day. I rinse with conditioner , then on Saturday , I wash with a clarifying shampoo , a moisturising shampoo & conditioner then continue the routine of conditioner till my weekend wash. My routine plus drying and showering 30 minutes.
I shampoo daily usually with sulfates, rinse out conditioner, microfiber dry to about 90% dry then blowdry with a serum and roundbrush. If I'm tired I just spritz with some leave in and rough blowdry without the nozzle, my hair is usually pretty defined from just the rinse out conditioner. I tend not to leave it curly often because I don't like how long curl defining products take to dry nor how many single strand knots I get after leaving it curly compared to not getting any single strand knots when blow-dried with a roundbrush or even a paddle brush/comb attachment. I bounce between Pantene, Dove and Garnier Fructis. Hands down Love Pantene stylers, the miracle rescue conditioners, and volume and body shampoo very much but when I want a nice lingering fragrance I use Dove intensive repair or Garnier bond repair. My hair has grown out evenly, ends don't seem to be suffering much they feel as smooth as usual, don't really tangle. This routine only adds 30-40 minutes to wash and dry, sometimes it's a drag but I know I can't push more than 3-4 days between washes because folliculitis sets in that quickly and it does not just disappear overnight.
I started cleansing daily last year July (during my winter) I shampoo x1 a week but co-wash with Schwarzkopf Gliss 4-in-1 moisture bond building mask (it can be a deep conditioner and leave-in) or L’Oréal’s Elvive Hyaluronic Conditioner. I also use store bought Aloe Vera gel (has glycerin) & store bought Rose Water infused with glycerin on my scalp to help with dryness and scalp massages 2-3 times a week I work out, so ykno, my scalp needs the cleanse. I documented the journey with pictures & you can see how voluminous my hair got because of how moisturised it is
@@애봉-q1ghey may I ask, how often do you blow dry your hair? I’ve been looking on Reddit & UA-cam to no avail about weekly blow drying type 4 hair. I’m not afraid of heat & use alot of silicones but I want to kno if blow drying weekly will be sustainable
@@inodetovenus I blowdry everyday with medium heat and a round brush. Practice your technique with tension, make sure your hair is at least 80% towel dried before you start blowdrying and don't put too much leave in/heat protectant.
Water washing is the best for me. My scalp gets irritated with shampoos. The dry spots would start balding. Its been over a year since i quit shampoos and my hair feels less dry, no single strand knots and most importantly my scalp no longer burns
I’m curious about your scalp burning with shampoo. Did it burn as you were using it or would it be after the fact? I personally do benefit from using shampoo every week, but I have experienced a burning sensation after using some shampoos so I’m curious about your experience and how you wear your hair on a daily basis.
Washing your hair every day seems like a lot of work. But if you've got scalp issues I guess you have too? I wash like every 4-5 days and that's still a lot of manipulation. Sometimes my hair is beautiful but still have to wash because scalp is telling me. Using bond builders and leave ins and precise trims to maintain things seems to produce slow and steady healthy growth
It’s really not a lot of work. And I get why it seems that way because it did start out that way for sure, as I mentioned in the video. But I’m in and out the shower in 15 to 20 minutes now. And when I shampoo on the weekend, I’m in and out the shower in an hour. That’s with stepping out of the shower to comb the deep conditioner into my hair, unless I decide to use heat the deep condition or any other treatments. At max when I’m being lazy it’ll take me two, maybe three hours on the weekend which is normal for me honestly. Most of the time is just spent doing treatments and not really actively doing my hair at all.
@@naomiomi4503 it’s quite nice. My hair stays conditioned, soft, and tangle free and my scalp is clean and doesn’t itch the entire week. So far, I’m loving it.
Recently started growing out my hair again and I've basically been doing this. Listening to what my hair needs and water washing/cowashing/shampooing depending on what it needs. Saves time and money.
I’m glad you’re back because you have a logical outlook on hair care. I’ve started watching non Black stylists who do curly hair just to see how others view and care for curly hair.
😂 essentially yeah. I didn’t think it really was since he advocates for daily co-washing and I don’t always use conditioner. I simply just wet my hair and massage my scalp and reapply but yeah it pretty much is.
I’ve been shampooing my hair three times a week for several months now and that seems to work for me. I work out almost daily and sweat profusely from my scalp + reset my hair almost every day.
Okay, welcome back. Glad things are going well, and you're figuring things out. Love the color. This WnG looks great. I have been wanting to try the Anthony Dickie method but I didn't feel comfortable going wet > dry > wet > dry, etc. And blow-dryers can cause so much damage over time. So, I got a Revair again, now that it's improved. I think I'll start on like a 3 day cycle instead and see how that goes 🤔
Idk why, but the fist sentence made me cackle. thank you! I didn’t even realize I was doing his method until somebody pointed it out in the comments lmaoo, but I really thought it was different since it’s not strictly co-washing every day. I think the main differentiation is the focus on spreading the sebum down my hair during the water washing and just going right in with a leave if I don’t need to cowash. Yes, blow dryers can definitely cause damage overtime so I’m being extra careful with it and getting as much of the water out as I possibly can before using it. Sounds like you got a plan, let me know how it goes.
I wash my hair daily for many many years maybe 15 or more but not with shampoo. I use aloe juice and coconut oil. My hair felt like i had a perm. It was so soft and no tangles. I need to get back to that!!! ❤❤❤
I'm glad people talk about this! It's a known fact that the scalp, face and back are the oiliest part of the human body. Most people wash their face once or twice a day and their skin is doing great. So why are people so afraid of washing their hair too often. Most people's scalp will do just fine being washed daily. If you make sure to use a gentle shampoo and protect your ends with oil, washing your hair everyday is actually really good for hair growth and a healthy scalp.
I’m glad more naturals are having this conversation. I used to have bad dandruff till I started washing weekly, sometimes when I workout a lot I need to wash twice a week. My scalp feels much better 🥹. I do struggle with wearing braids, after 2-3 weeks my scalp is on fire
Please wash your hair while it's in braids. I take a spray bottle and mix it with shampoo and water. I spray the mixture onto my scalp to make sure it gets in between the parts well. Then I use the faucet spray at the sink to spray the shampoo out. I do this 2-3x's. I try not to massage the shampoo in because I don't want my hair to get fuzzy. But I do this even if I have to wash my hair twice a week with braids. I had a dirty scalp.
For all the daily washers out there, did it make your hair grow? If so, were you wearing a flat iron style roller set or curly styles like braid out and twist out and wash wash and goes??
I wash my hair daily using Creme of nature PrOfessional conditioning shampoo & Silk Elements Advanced Repair conditioner. I switch between olaplex no 3 & redken acidic bonding concentrate as pre treatments a few times a week. I deep condition 1- 2 times a week using Silk Elements hair mayonnaise. I only use Aphogee leave in & UFD curly magic for styling. I bought the modern elements hooded dryer from Sally’s. It dries my hair so fast!
I've learned as long as I properly seal my hair, i can co-wash all week, which is highly necessary during warm months due to wildfire smoke, pollen, sweat, bug spray, etc. The only thing I dont do is clarify my hair more than once or twice a week especially if the shampoo contains silicone or sulphates. Light oil/serum near scalp (gotta let it breathe), leave in conditioner on hair in summer, butters in winter. Wont work for all but it works for me!
I ACV clarify my low porosity super thick and super tight legit 4C HAIR. (several licensed stylist said i have 4c hair) weekly and bi weekly and my hair stopped shedding and grow fasting and getting super full, the short parts are longer, even my short edges grew within 3 months. I chunky retwist my hair (while wet) weekly and always rinse it before i do. My subs been seen for two month now how said my hair looks healthy and beautiful, even calling me a diva now. I wear a silk scarf a stylist have me which doesnt dry hair out. I use old school productd: castor oil butter, argan oil gel, mango lim gel or sulfur 8 gel for sealing and almost all the sulfur 8 products. I sometime use matrix curl can dream but always seal with argan oil gel. I detox scalp monthly with my own homemade tonic or design essential hair tonic. I mist my hair with water every other day. Twice a month i put rice water in it and leave it in.
CHECK YOUR WATER FIRST! I do this but moved to a new area and damaged my hair because the water was too hard. I bought a shower filter and my hair is now doing much better less tangles.
I shampoo every other day at this point ever since I experienced hair loss, but it easy because my hair is short. I want to talk to those with long hair shampooing every day as well! lol
This is another fantastic video! I love this stream of consciousness type of video complete with all the pop-in edits! 😊 It’s like listening to a friend genuinely catching you upon how they’re doing. I’m now remembering that I used to wash, rinse and/or co-wash my hair more frequently and never had any issues. A hairdresser discouraged me from washing more than once a week but my hair actually retained more length and also looked and felt better. I’ve been trying all the natural hair methodologies with limited success so I you’ve inspired me to try more frequent washing and try to find a more customized approach. Have you tried the 808 gel by the Doux? It reminds me of Uncle Funky’s but not as heavy and somehow my hair dries quicker. I have low density fine 4a/4c hair btw so I can get away with air drying but thought you might want to look into the 808 gel or try it to see if it cuts down your drying time.🤗
I feel the same about bond builders!! I feel like I wasted money using olaplex every other wash for a year on my virgin hair. I now get silk presses regularly and can actually feel the difference when I use olaplex. The system is definitely for stressed/damaged hair
For sure. When I first used the Olaplex system on my colored hair I was like wait a minute.. NOW I can say this for sure works because with my virgin hair my hair always felt good afterwards, but my hair noticeably remained feeling stronger and healthier after using it on my color treated hair.
I go back and forth but when i wash my hair everyday back in the day i used to just use conditioner as a leave in and styler lmao , now i still wash everyday or cowash but i use just a leave in and a cream/ mousse and keep it moving. To me is doesn’t make since for me to spend all this time styling just to wash it the next day. i also have Seborrheic dermatitis so keeping the scalp clean is important.
Yes. I stay using a conditioner as a leave in and styler depending on the day and how much time I have. Until the last couple weeks, I’ve been against using stylers like mousse and gel, but like I mentioned in the video, I’ve been testing it out to see how it helps and I’ve been using the curly magic (like 15 pumps throughout my hair) on top of my leave-in and squeezing out the excess. This gel actually helps the hair dry faster after plopping and keeps my roots from getting frizzy throughout the day. The thing I love about leave in is that it keeps my hair moisturized buuuut it can take a few days of reapplying product to get a little bit of hold. My roots love to frizz up and marry each other (which, frizz isn’t bad and my hair doesn’t get tangled because it’s so conditioned on a daily basis, but I just don’t think it’s ideal for preventing single strand knots). I’m glad I figured out a way for me to be in and out the shower in 20 minutes every day because I was ready to kill myself shampooing every day for an HOUR… my god. Thanks for sharing!
@@devonhoward333 up until last week yes. With more conditioning comes better curl definition and since you’re not technically shampooing the leave in from prior days out, it is giving a “buildup effect” without actually building up on your hair because it’s not heavy enough to do that and I’m rinsing it out everyday. Essentially the hair is getting more and more conditioned by day and that is allowing it to stay coiled without the use of a gel. My issue became that throughout the day when I would go on walks, and the wind would whip my little fro I would go inside and fluff my hair with my fingers (nothing crazy really) and it will still cause frizz that I feel like I could’ve prevented somehow. but leave-in is such a soft hold product that it’s only going to hold the curl so much and I’m constantly touching my hair, no matter how much I try not to. Last week I started using a little bit of UFD gel to see if it helped hold my hair, but still leave it moisturized. I was weary because, as I stated in the video, I tried it before with the Ouidad advanced climate control gel, and it was not it at all. But this gel is reacting completely differently. While my hair does feel of course harder than it did with just leave-in, it dries quicker and I can use a couple of drops of oil to squeeze into the cast and that makes my hair feels incredibly soft, but it also has better hold. As the days go by and I continue to do that, I’m not experiencing any hard hair or tangles like I did with the Ouidad last year when I gave it a try. For example, the kinky curly is my main leave in product. I have at least 20 bottles of that and I’m not kidding. I bought them during the buy two get one free at Sally Beauty during the holiday last year and I use about a bottle a week. I have other leave ins that I go through but that product helps clump my curls every single day that I use it, and the curls just get better and better as the week goes on. However, it’s still very soft and it can still get very frizzy throughout the day since I touch it a lot. The best days are the days closest to the next shampoo session because it’s had time over the week to “build up” on the hair.
@@BrittanyMia Very interesting and it seems so simple but it makes sense as the hair becomes more moisturized that our curls clump more. Especially since tight curly hair is drier. It's just we haven't been brought up to do our hair in this way. So it's really trial and error for most of us. A few months ago I had heard about daily washing and was really interested watching every video I could find but only found a few videos from years ago (very few having type 4 hair) and a lot of people in the comments like you said saying they wash daily but with no content. But I've been hesitant to try for myself... I have 4a/4b fine to medium hair low porosity. And still dealing with the effects (split ends up the shaft + dryness) of the NONB method. Debating if I should big chop again... Very excited to see your routine and how it progresses if you decide to grow your hair out. I have similar hair characteristics to you so this is really helpful to see! Thank you for sharing!
I think I got hydrail fatigue from over exposure to water. So I'm honestly not sure this is the best method but I also went on Accutane so I might be bald anyways in the future. There's so much misinformation EVERYWHERE genuinely don't know what to do with our hair anymore. And I don't think anyone does. Scary prospect honestly. If we don't even understand hair imagine everything else, we don't understand.
I've been contemplating going back to daily washing but I was doubtful due to the time requirements. I'll experiment with rinsing and see how it goes. Thank you for this video!
Your cut and color looks great! I wash my hair twice a week. However, I have been watching Anthony Dickey for years, and he swears by daily co washing and shampooing once a week. I am trying to get there, but my hair is so thick and my roots take forever to dry. My new goal is to do my hair every two days with UFD. I have heard of and seen a few people plopping but don’t know a lot about it. Thanks for sharing!
I restarted cowashing every other day and I've been wrapping my styled hair (elongated) in a microfiber towel and leaving it on to do some chores before diffusing. Takes a shorter time to dry and doesn't ruin my definition
OMG. I was washing my hair everyday or every other day when going swimming in the summer. My hair was so moisturized. I washed with shampoo and conditioner and leave in. My kinks and curls were so defined too. I don't have color in my hair. In the winter, I kept my hair straight and washed once a month and used dry shampoo.
I’m a daily washer and the type of products I used the day before determines which cleanser I use. If I use a styler with silicone, I will use a stronger shampoo and I also like adding a little silicone based hair oil to my ends and mids before a shampoo.
When I workout I’m ready to wash my hair on day 2. I almost don’t want to workout so I don’t have to wash my styles out so early but I need to lose weight😂
I wash my hair twice a week, it's what my scalp craves and my hair is better off for it. During the summer while I play tennis I sometimes end up washing my hair three times a week.
I really appreciate you sharing this very detailed video, thank you! I've bene thinking of doing this exact type of routine, the only thing I don't understand is the plopping part. How do you do it and what type of towel do you use? Would you be willing to do a video showing how you do it? Especially since you said you double plop? Thank you!
after i watched this, i washed with a conditioner and left a leave in conditioner…. it worked. omg, my curls were way more coily, tighter. doing this WAY MORE. and get a moisturizer shampoo. also what is your hair porosity? it seems high porosity. i could be wrong 😅
@@BrittanyMiaI figured, we have the same coil pattern so watching your videos is really helpful. I also have high porosity as well after years thinking I had low lol which was a journey in itself
I think your hair looks amazing. The fullness and frizz is designed by God. Its beautiful. More black and indigenous women with type 4 hair should embrace feminine beauty in its androgynous expression. Its sexy.
This is the laziest ive been with my hair in regards to product usage after i did a big chop. My hair fell off sfter dying blonde so i went into it with my shears and started over with a twa. Its been less than a year and my hair has grown the quickest by washing my hair every two days. I shampoo condition and use deep conditioner only one timecin thecweek. I use gel and go. Its hassle free and I dont stress retaining the curl pattern since im going to redo it in two days.
I tried daily washing with shampoo and with only water. My hair is shoulder length so the drying time was too much. Doing it in the winter was a pain too
Plopping is using a microfiber towel or a cotton T-shirt or something to dry your wet curls in a mound on top of your head. There’s videos demonstrating it for reference on YT. Scritching and preening - checkout greenbeautys YT channel. It’s essentially spreading the sebum on your scalp down your hair strands for sebum coverage (free oil 😅) protecting the hair strands and not building up on top of the scalp.
Used to do co-wash n go's every day but i got tired of going out every day with wet hair. That was years ago. Now i just wash once a week to every two weeks.
When I big chopped and started washing my hair everyday, just cause it was short and it was nice to have water on my head was when I felt like I discovered my hair. It grew my hair so fasssssssst. Now my hair is too long for alla dat but I might cut it again just to relive this feeling. It’s liberating 💦 🚿
Testing out the Cècred hydrating shampoo and it’s nice. The other two that I’ve used consistently are the Ouidad cleansing oil shampoo, and the Design Essentials honey crème shampoo. I rarely shampoo during the week but mentioned it because if I do need to, I will. The design essentials is the most moisturizing I’ve tried so far.
@BrittanyMia I have also used the Ouidad Oil Cleansing Shampoo then switched to Design Essentials Honey Creme, but I lucked up one day and found Amika "the kure" Shampoo (light green bottle) at TJ Maxx. Hands down the best moisturizing shampoo I've used.
Try keracare detangling shampoo it's that girl. I want to try ors hydrating shampoo and cream of nature moisture and shine. I also see people rave about redken all soft although it has sulfates. There is a sulfate free one redken all soft mega curls, not tried yet but will definitely.
I used to di watee washing and i can honestly say that was when my scalp was the happiest. No itching. And my hair felt great too without any product. Ibhave been thinking about going back to that. Everything else I've tried hasnt giveb me the same relief from itching. Your process kind of sounds like a modified/ hybrid version of water washing and the dickey method. Really interested to see how your hair and scalp reacts over time. Based on your process I am very optimistic.
Im open to trying this out. I go once a week, but i feel like i should do more because i go to the gym and sauna, im scared its thinning my edges from the sweat and salt. Im going to start today
Oh really 👀 How long did it take you to achieve waist length? Do share...
@@imo.124most likely 3 to 3 1/2 years
@lacabadoe are you 4C low Porosity?
What styles did you do?
@@mrod87 love that you found a cleansing schedule that works for you. Keeping the scalp clean is so essential 🙌🏾 thanks for sharing
Same!
13:12 Also if you're daily washing there's no need to strive for perfection since you don't need to make sure your hair lasts a full week! You can focus on hair health instead of appearance while still looking good!
I like how you put this! I have gotten so lazy with my hair lately and this has motivated me to get back to daily co wash or at least every other day
Yesss!! If my hair turns bad I can just wash tmrw
@@LethalLemonLime exactly! I do like the coil definition so I do strive for that but if it doesn’t look the way I want it to I don’t stress because I’m literally gonna do my hair tomorrow

The common denominator between doing this and the oiling is the consistent head massage. Stimulates growth.
Once a month shampooing is all I need to do since I only use oil in my scalp 3x a week.
I am waist length approaching tailbone length.
Glad you found what works for you
Thanks for sharing!
I only use oil once a week and wash every 2 weeks and that's what works best for me.
Crazy how we're all so different! You need to add oil to your scalp and I need to get rid of it💀
After seeing this and reading through the comments, O. M.
Like once a week now?
@whateverwhatever3422 Yes, I shampoo and condition once a week now because my hair has grown long.
@@joybanks4974 but I still can grow pretty long hair while doing this, right?

I do it once a week.
Same here. I even put rice water in hair bi weekly. My hair is growing fast and fuller and I get no breakage now.
Oh no! Thanks for letting me know
Yep, I can only hear sound in my left headphone. I’m using Shokz.
@@KimberleyVlogsXO yes! Now I just need to retain my length and stop chopping it off 😩 but I’m loving it short. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome back!! 🎉 I love this hair color on you!
Thank you 💗
Haven’t stopped by here in a minute . Loving the new color 😍❤️
Thank you ❣️
I used to wash my every 3 days because it thrived like that, and i honestly it was less about me needing to wash it and more about me being excited to do it and struggling to wait a full 6 days, especially within the first 6-8 months of cutting my hair to my scalp.
At least, until I get my scalp back into a balance (its been 2 years) I did and will implement a few things (te focus is on the scalp health)
1. Detoxed for a few days on a row, with a clarifying and a gentle shampoo (they both had sulfate)
I did it in a as needed basis for the clarifying one, bcuz detox shampoos today can be quite well formulated and balanced to be able to go 1 week in a row with it.
So happy to have come across your channel!
Thank you so much 💞 I appreciate that.

The comstant scrarxhing also caused my to shed even more ( i weighed mynshed hair at every wash day)
I only use conditioner and a heavy oil to de shed and then shampoo the same day.
I dont use a store brough leave in to moisturize-only 50/50 aloe juice Nd water.
Avocado oil and grease the day I shampoo and maintain with jojjoba oil and grease. That is all
Itchy is now at an all time low.
I might look into the water oil on my scalp on the off weeks.
I have to use a shampoo on the length because i like to start with a clean slate
@@RAJOHN-ke7mc thanks for sharing your experience. Did you ever shampoo in between cowashing when you experienced this?
I really like your haircut. I like your hair color as well
When I did water only washing for about 3 months a while back, my hair thrived.
@@BrittanyMia looking forward to more of your content! Maybe some day I’ll join you!
If you "cleanse" daily, let me know your regimen! Share, share, shaaaare.
I started cleansing daily last year July (during my winter)
I shampoo x1 a week but co-wash with Schwarzkopf Gliss 4-in-1 moisture bond building mask (it can be a deep conditioner and leave-in) or L’Oréal’s Elvive Hyaluronic Conditioner.
I also use store bought Aloe Vera gel (has glycerin) & store bought Rose Water infused with glycerin on my scalp to help with dryness and scalp massages 2-3 times a week
I work out, so ykno, my scalp needs the cleanse.

Your hair is so pretty

That actually sounds like a nice balance 🤔
@@naomiomi4503 it’s quite nice. My hair stays conditioned, soft, and tangle free and my scalp is clean and doesn’t itch the entire week. So far, I’m loving it.

Sounds like you got a plan, let me know how it goes.
me sitting here w an itchy scalp
😂
What’s funny is the pro of braided hair styles used to be it made swimming easier because we could wash our hair without detangling.
You’re supposed to wash your braids…
I'm a 2-3 times a week hair washer in summer and 1-2 times when it's cold. My hair loooooves water.
Love it
I wash my hair daily using Creme of nature PrOfessional conditioning shampoo & Silk Elements Advanced Repair conditioner.
It looks AMAZING! 😍
Thank ya 🤎❣️
I've missed ya! 🎉
I shampoo every other day at this point ever since I experienced hair loss, but it easy because my hair is short. I want to talk to those with long hair shampooing every day as well! lol
Right! Like I know they’re out there
i shampoo every 2 weeks. sometimes i use only water rinse every 2 weeks.
I have low density fine 4a/4c hair btw so I can get away with air drying but thought you might want to look into the 808 gel or try it to see if it cuts down your drying time.🤗
I just saw Evie Aswiti uploaded a video called "DAILY washing - did it level up my life?" that you may be interested in
I feel the same about bond builders!!
@@BrittanyMia Do you mean you've been reapplying leave in for consecutive days and noticing better curl definition? No gels used?
@ absolutely. Thank you for engaging!
Water is moisture. I love your hair philosophy 😊
I love a good water wash. Thank you 😊
Eric Dickey advocates for daily shampooing
Try every 3 days.
When I workout I’m ready to wash my hair on day 2. I almost don’t want to workout so I don’t have to wash my styles out so early but I need to lose weight😂
I have low porosity hair so have to heat deep condition each time, so I’m a once a week washer!
That’s great! Most definitely high porosity now.
@@BrittanyMiaI figured, we have the same coil pattern so watching your videos is really helpful. I also have high porosity as well after years thinking I had low lol which was a journey in itself
When I was growing my locs, I wet my hair twice a day and oiled it a couple times a week. It grew like crazy.
I think your hair looks amazing. The fullness and frizz is designed by God. Its beautiful. More black and indigenous women with type 4 hair should embrace feminine beauty in its androgynous expression. Its sexy.
Yes I use to do it and I was enjoying it then I stop need to go back to it it was great for me. My hair was loving it
i just put shampoo directly on my scalp a crap ton and wash it weekly it kept my scalp issues at bay
You are so pretty.
I tried daily washing with shampoo and with only water. My hair is shoulder length so the drying time was too much. Doing it in the winter was a pain too
Would love to see your new routine.
Coming soon!
@@BrittanyMia 🎉yay, thank you!
What is flopping? Screnching and preening???
Plopping is using a microfiber towel or a cotton T-shirt or something to dry your wet curls in a mound on top of your head. There’s videos demonstrating it for reference on YT.
Scritching and preening - checkout greenbeautys YT channel. It’s essentially spreading the sebum on your scalp down your hair strands for sebum coverage (free oil 😅) protecting the hair strands and not building up on top of the scalp.
@@BrittanyMia Thank you
@@Mz_E_Nichole you’re welcome
Used to do co-wash n go's every day but i got tired of going out every day with wet hair. That was years ago. Now i just wash once a week to every two weeks.
I hear you. This was my issue in the beginning. I opted for plopping & diffusing and it’s made it so it airdrys quickly.
I might need to do this cause the build up be buildup-ing 😂😂😂
No fr. I was so surprised at how much massaging my scalp and pulling the sebum onto my hair helped with my scalp.
I do it in the summer
When I big chopped and started washing my hair everyday, just cause it was short and it was nice to have water on my head was when I felt like I discovered my hair. It grew my hair so fasssssssst. Now my hair is too long for alla dat but I might cut it again just to relive this feeling. It’s liberating 💦 🚿
I used to do this in high school and i remember cowashing and being told that wss bad for me...but my hair looked so good.
Very expensive and time-consuming addiction.
Ikr! I love it.
Hmm 🤔 my hair is the perfect TWA length to try out every other day cleansing. I do like refreshing my style often when it’s this short
Do iiiit. It’s easier to refresh the style when it’s short and gives time to form a manageable preference as it grows out.
Beautiful hair and great video! What is the brand and color of the lip product you are wearing in the video? 👍🏾
Thanks, it’s the Fenty Beauty Extra thigh liner and the Gloss Bomb Heat Universal Lip Luminizer + Plumper in Fenty Glow

I don't shampoo daily but I am curious about which moisturizing shampoo you use on the days when you're not water rinsing.
Honestly kinky curly leave in gives great definition
I’m sayin. It’s so good.
I hope it works for you, or at least give you some insight on what can work better in your routine.
I shampoo everyday. No co washing
how do you style your hair on a daily basis?
@@BrittanyMiathrow some foam mousse in it, use my fingers to spread it throughout and shape my hair and go on about my business. I let it air dry.
