... I watched this with my grandfather Charles in 99'. He was in North Africa. He told me afterwards, in tears I might add, that he had never seen such an accurate portrait. He said that the story was a little hard to imagine because there were so many, but that he was so impressed. Grandpa wasn't moved easily by modern films. He was old fashioned. I thought you should know.
it was a really proud moment for us in Ireland when they were filming the beach scene here. Just goes to show what Ireland has in terms of locations for filming. :)
@Gencturk92 Dude Spielberg's films were the archetype for modern blockbuster filmmaking. Cinema at that time was in a rut. Spielberg's Jaws (and let's not forget George Lucas' Star Wars) ascended Hollywood filmmaking to the next level. If it wasn't for these two films, film would not be such a rich and lucrative industry. It was they who pioneered the industry into combining tech and art. That's why we have such awesome films today: Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings/James Cameron's Terminator
@Gencturk92 While that is true, awards really do not mean much as Hitchcock was nominated six times. And I believe that Hitchcok's films are timeless classics but as are Spielberg's pictures as well. You cannot compare each director because both had unique techniques that they used in their directorial styles and the pictures that they have given to the world. But I am saying is that Spielberg's films have a much more wider scope and that is why he was able to connect to audiences worldwide.
Spielberg was thinking that German soldiers in beach of Normandy had hair style of neo nazies while in reality their hairstyle was totally different. I just wonder when this parody of WW2 German soldiers with all ridiculous cliches finally will end.
@Gencturk92 You are praising Hitchcock too much. There are other directors who have displayed a mastery of techniques in principle of film. Spielberg won 3 oscars (out of 12 nominations)! How much did your mother, Alfred Hitchcock, win- 0!!!!!!! :P
@Gencturk92 First, cinema was made by the Lumiere brothers at about 1900, not Hitchcock at 1930 something(maybe I spelt Lumiere wrong..). Alfred Hitchcock is an amazing director, i agree with that, and yes, he is the master of thriller films. But John Ford is just as good as him in making films. You failed big-time when you said he was a million times better than anyone else.... And by the way, learn how to spell english...
@Gencturk92 Seriously? You think that Alfred Hitchcock is A MILLION times better than anyone else? A million times better than Frank Capra? A million times better than John Ford and Willam Wyler? And you dont know who Steven Spielberg is? The most famous director of the last three decades? Do you know ANYTHING about films at all?
If someone were to ask me, "Why does cinema matter?" I'd tell them to watch the D-Day sequence of "Saving Private Ryan."
The only movie i would of loving to see in the cinema 😥
Show them Schindler's List

You don't correct Steven Spielberg. If he says Mel Brooks made Braveheart, then Mel Brooks made Braveheart.
best thing i heard today
Well he did direct and produce it soooo
@@William_Unknown du gamla du fria 😀😀😀
My favourite director ever I love Steven Spielberg

A truly inspiring and amazing artist thank god for Steve Spielberg!
This man is one of my hero’s
Old Steve is amazing, it blows my mind that he is just a dude who eats and poops. He is the Hitchcock of our generation
Hitchcock is nowhere near as good, the modern David Lean is more fair and that was one of his inspirations.

dude, drive was an INSTANT cult classic
Mel Brooks made Braveheart? You'd think it would have been funnier.
Spielberg purposefully dissing mel gibson, the anti-semite with that one methinks
" Good luck, Steven Spielberg."
this guy rules
At 5:20 he made a funny, but small mistake! He confused Mel Gibson with Mel Brooks.

Very good movie saving Private Ryan, but very sad ending for captain Miller
No....appropriate. Died after glorious service on the battlefield as a straight up hero.
@@burrenmagic Nothing "glorious" about war kid...
@@burrenmagic Also he stood up like a dumbass to run for the detonator when heshould have just kept his head down
Me too. Watch the movie "Drive" i feel like it'll be an awesome cult film in the next few years
He reminds me of Shekhar Kapur a little..
@Gencturk92 oh, i also forgot Charlie Chaplin...
@Gencturk92 He is just THE director of the last few decades. So, nobody really.
up the irish! Great movie!
now you understand mel gibson anti-semitic outbursts better
Imagine they fired him
yep. you're the only one. just you.

Maybe it wasn't a mistake. Mel Gibson isn't exactly loved by the LA Jewish community...;)
