I always smash my sandwiches like you did. My grandpa used to do this. He always joked he needs to drive with a truck over my sandwiches to make them easier to eat. It made me think of him 😊 when you did that. He will be always missed but never forgotten. Thanks for the recipe!
I try to do mine with fresh coconut when I can. The thicker slices you can get makes for a more substantial 'bacon'. I also let it sit in them marinade in the fridge overnight. Not as much coconut flavor comes through that way. I love this stuff!!
Thank you so much for these videos! I've never seen a vegan channel i like more. I've wanted to be vegan for years but I'm afraid of totally bland food so your videos are really inspiring and pushing me to make changes in my life!
I’m not vegan, I have been vegetarian and pescatarian before and plan to be again but I love watching your videos!!! It has given me ideas for when I decide to fully commit.
Oh this is totally my next project... Thank you so much... I made the Filipino Corned beef hash thru your video and it was a hit with the vegans and some of the nonVegans at my potluck at my job
I've never smashed a sandwich or seen a depiction of smashing sandwiches unless it was on tv with an extra large sandwich. Cute to know that people actually do this. I'm going to buy some coconut flakes and try this later!
Just found this channel, absolutely loving it. Going to try making this today,I've no smoked paprika but sure look it'll be grand. Hopefully. Love from Ireland 😊
Hi Sarah, love your channel! I'm wondering how many bacon recipes you have done? And which you have found to be your favorite? I have tried eggplant, various types of mushrooms, rice paper and I have yet to find one that is satisfactory. I'm wondering if you can shed some light on my bacon darkness please. Thanks in advance!
I think I've only tried coconut and tempeh bacon. I like them both but neither is a 100% convincing alternative. The closest thing I can find to "real" bacon are the lightlife strips but even those taste more like turkey bacon than the real thing. The Benevolent Bacon strips are also really good but again, not 100% convincing.
I recently just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! You are not alone cause I def smash all my sandwiches like that and when I eat something really tasty I also do the hand over chest thing 😂 seriously thought I was the only one who did that cause my friends look at me weird when I do it LOL.
Nieskatz' your name sounds a little german(?). i will talk english anyway. im from austria 😉 u can buy liquid smoke and stuff like that on amazon. did it too. 😀
Al Addin Liquid smoke is actually made from real smoke, they burn hickory/mesquite/etc and condense the smoke to get some of it as a liquid. It tastes super close to the effect you'd get from actually smoking your food
is soy bacon not vegan? I'm not sure, because my aunt is only vegetarian, but we used to eat soybacon all the time in this super yummy salad she made (i should totally send the recipe) but it is really good and quite convincing.
Momo! unfortunately some are not vegan. I bought some from an asian grocery that was labeled as Vegan but contained sodium caseinate which is a milk derivative.
Totally going to make this, I think I'll miss bacon most of all.. well, besides cheese. Also. Yes, you have to smoosh the sandwich, otherwise how can you rip into it? And.. How does veganaise compare in taste to the regular kind?
Your channel makes me interested in having a loose vegan diet for about a week! I say loose because I would still use regular bread since vegan bread is very hard to find and expensive (and I don't make a lot). Do you have any advice for trying a vegan diet for a short amount of time?
That's awesome! I would say taking a loose approach is actually best, because making a 100% switch overnight can sometimes cause your body to freak out. Takes some time to adjust to the extra fiber. In general I recommend just taking foods you eat normally and trying to veganize them -- when I went vegetarian I would make a lot of veggie burgers, stir fries with tofu instead of meat, fried rice, and lots of pasta dishes because those are cheap/easy and simple to veganize.
That looked great. Only criticism is that everyone knows a sandwich *that* good should be cut diagonally so I'm going to have to dock you half a point. So 4.5/5 :D
It tastes good but doesn't taste like bacon WAY far from it :/ There needs to be a better bacon vegan recipe out there I used to put bacon on everything
I do agree that I haven't found any products/recipes that are like the real thing. It's weird how we can replicate most other meat recipes but not bacon.
For New Year's resolution I became a vegetarian but I still cheated and I still had fish tuna and shrimp, but no beef and no chicken yuck! Yesterday March 14th I became a vegan so no fish no shrimp no tuna,
You are vegan because you don't like hurting animals. Than why name your vegan food after meats? Doesn't that make you feel some kinda way. You can name your foods after meats You know what it took to get that meat right? You end up glorifying the flavors of meat in a way. when you try to get it to taste like meat. Just call it what it is.
I agree to some extent, but a lot of the viewers on my channel aren't vegan and are just looking for ways to incorporate more plant-based options into their day-to-day. If using keywords like "bacon" or "cheese" can help these people or new vegans access vegan alternatives to foods they used to enjoy, I'm all for it. Nobody is querying "smoky baked coconut flakes." Maybe one day in the future that will change.
I always smash my sandwiches like you did. My grandpa used to do this. He always joked he needs to drive with a truck over my sandwiches to make them easier to eat. It made me think of him 😊 when you did that. He will be always missed but never forgotten. Thanks for the recipe!
Aw, isn't is crazy how the littlest things carry such big memories? :)
I CRUSH my sandwiches toooooooo
bloat- "bacon" lettuce onion avocado tomato
:) bravo to you for that acronym.
I scrolled down to see if anyone else had thought of that, and I was not disappointed. 👏
have you tried making eggplant bacon? It's so good. And the strips resemble bacon a bit more and may be easier for a sandwich.
I haven't tried it but I've been curious about it! It looks really good. Your comment might be the little push I needed to make it. :)
woo, is there a recipe for that ? the eggplant bacon?
+lamlamkawai Edgy Veg did one a while ago!!
I try to do mine with fresh coconut when I can. The thicker slices you can get makes for a more substantial 'bacon'. I also let it sit in them marinade in the fridge overnight. Not as much coconut flavor comes through that way. I love this stuff!!
ooh. I've never worked with fresh coconut but that sounds amazing.
I am almost a year delayed but I am making this now, so I can put it in homemade vegan mac and cheese with tomatoes!! so excited!
Sounds delicious!
I'm a vegan and ur helping my meat eater family get more into plant based eating
That makes me so happy! I love when my family loves my vegan meals.
Oh my god. I made this today and it is seriously sooooo tasty! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this recipe!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Oh this is totally my next project... Thank you so much... I made the Filipino Corned beef hash thru your video and it was a hit with the vegans and some of the nonVegans at my potluck at my job

That BLT looks SO good!
I was in love. :)
Great video! I'll be trying this one soon! Love the "bacon" cupcake idea!!
Please do more vids like theses they are so satisfying💝👏🏻👏🏻
You're so adorable omg. I recently went completely vegan about four months ago and your videos are amazing.
Congrats! And thank yoooou. :)
Love your videos Sarah, especially watching your taste testing. I just started vegetarian, but working my way to vegan.
What I totally can't stand in these kinds of videos is the taste test! I literally salivate during those parts.....
I'm not even vegan and I'm addicted to watching your videos! I'm also half pinoy!
This sandwich and I need some alone time.
Looks good, I would have added more mayo though.
Haha you can never have too much mayo. :-P
I subscribed :) I try to be vegan but i haven´t found a good german channel with recipes and now i´m here
Ajnos95 ii

I couldn't find the large flakes but doing a trial run with the shredded ones... But am gonna go find some larger ones next time...
I recently just found your channel and I'm so glad I did! You are not alone cause I def smash all my sandwiches like that and when I eat something really tasty I also do the hand over chest thing 😂 seriously thought I was the only one who did that cause my friends look at me weird when I do it LOL.
Haha that's so funny! I've never seen anyone else do that. Glad someone else gets as excited about food as me. ;)
Not judging at all but the low sodium Kikkoman brand soy sauce is the one with the green lid ;-)
I made your recipe and it was awesome!
Try sail' non coconut bacon from Edmonton. It's AMAAAAZZZING and 100% vegan.
I'm vegetarian right now but one day want to go vegan love your channel :)
Thank you!
I definitely need to try this!! Looked sooooo good
Liquid Smoke? You guys have crazy stuff over there xD
Nieskatz' your name sounds a little german(?). i will talk english anyway. im from austria 😉 u can buy liquid smoke and stuff like that on amazon. did it too. 😀
Cheerube Bayonetta Holopainen yes I am German, thanks for telling me, never heard of that :D
Liquid smoke is common in America... it's like the consistency of water but tastes like tart barbecue sauce
Jackson Catlett what's inside?
Al Addin Liquid smoke is actually made from real smoke, they burn hickory/mesquite/etc and condense the smoke to get some of it as a liquid. It tastes super close to the effect you'd get from actually smoking your food
is soy bacon not vegan? I'm not sure, because my aunt is only vegetarian, but we used to eat soybacon all the time in this super yummy salad she made (i should totally send the recipe) but it is really good and quite convincing.
I think there are some vegan soy bacons. Depends on the brand though; some contain egg products. The Lightlife one is pretty decent!
Momo! unfortunately some are not vegan.
Rice paper bacon is amazing!
I love love your content!
Your recipes are giving me less excuses to not go meat-free.. but smoked salmon: done! but fish: done! but bacon, my one true food love: DONE! ^_^
Haha so happy I can help! Used to love bacon too. There are quite a few bacon substitutes on the market as well.
New subscriber... OMG! you make everything look like it tastes so good! LOL!
Your channel makes me interested in having a loose vegan diet for about a week! I say loose because I would still use regular bread since vegan bread is very hard to find and expensive (and I don't make a lot).

Lol Omg that looks so good! Thank you! Loved this!
I wonder if this would taste good on a baked potatoe.
No eggs, but I'm cheating and still drinking milk. I really love your coconut bacon. Thank you so much for your recipe.
That looked great. Only criticism is that everyone knows a sandwich *that* good should be cut diagonally so I'm going to have to dock you half a point. So 4.5/5 :D
I tried making tempeh bacon once a few years ago and it was an epic fail. This looks interesting though... I had no idea coconut bacon was a thing!
You can use this marinade with tofu, tempeh or seitan as well! Just the coconut gets quite nice and crunchy. :D I hope you enjoy if you try it out!
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen can't wait to try it on a salad! 😍
I personally think the follow your heart veganaise is quite bland, since you love the taste of mayo, do you like the just mayo?
I don't know if anyone told you this but you favor both Ingrid Nilson (youtuber) and Mandy Moore.
Haha yes I've been told both. Those two and Ellen Page. I love Ingrid. :)
I swear you've made tempeh bacon before but I can't find the video anywhere! Anyone link me??
That's the exact coconut I bought the other day to make coconut bacon. That was before I saw this video.
destiny :)
“I love mayo” puts the tiniest amount on the bread omg 😂
I have to restrain myself
Sarah's Vegan Kitchen 😂😂
That looks sooo good 😀 damn girl! I need to make this right away! #foodislife
if I use sweetened coconut, can I leave out the maple?
You could try it! The flavor will be different but probably still good.

I always smash my sandwiches too.
Everyone loves my B.L.T.'s
Or just eat them as chips.. X-P They are tasty af!
Areli Serna mccormicks brand bacon bits are vegan! They're made of soy, check the ingredients 😊
Hey! Did you know that the McCormick bacon bits are accidentally vegan??
had no clue!
I wanted to grab the mayo and spread way more than u did! Lol that was almost nothing
WHY tf you only put the mayo on ONE SIDE
For New Year's resolution I became a vegetarian but I still cheated and I still had fish tuna and shrimp, but no beef and no chicken yuck! Yesterday March 14th I became a vegan so no fish no shrimp no tuna,
There was a whole slice of bread that had no veganaise on it.
Omg I smash my sandwiches too. You just forgot to cut it in half!!!
TRUE. Haha I usually do.
Vegan mayo...eww..gross..lol. I like my mayo and turkey bacon..lol
