- Complete frame-off, nut & bolt, restoration. Two different tops installed in the slides, the standard Bestop top, and a top made for the Jeepster Convertible out of blue Stayfast canvas. To get the Convertible top to fit, I had to make a lot of hardware such as window frames, back windows, and new bows. The engine is the original Dauntless Oddfire V-6 that Kaiser bought from Buick. It is called an Oddfire because the distributor firing points are not evenly spaced (due to crankshaft design). Engine fires bang, bang - skip - bang, bang - skip - bang-bang.
Excellent work. I have a 72' out back on jackstands right now. Welding in the Inner and Outer rockers this weekend.
Sweet restoration. I live in a rural area and had one given to me. It could not pass the annual inspection because just about every thing on it was rusted and not safe to drive on public roads. The Buick V 6 still ran fine after a tune up. We drove that in the fields and woods for years until the body just fell off the frame and you could not steer it anymore. I hope your commando gives you the same pleasure mine gave me.
Beautiful restoration!
Very cool rebuild🤠
wow!
This Jeepster was made by Kaiser Jeep Corp. in Toledo, Ohio. Kaiser sold out the Jeep name to AMC (Mitt Romney's Dad) about a year after this Jeepster was made. AMC sold Jeep to Chrysler.
Do you have any idea where to get new window glass for a jeepster commando?
That is amazing work you did on her.

I have a 1971 Jeepster Commando my son and I want to start restoring it not sure where to start ? This one you did looks great .
great job! I am just learning about Commandos and am also in Chesapeake- would love to meet and chat if possible
How do you remove the hard top?
From past experience, not in flip flops by yourself. You cant imaging what the corner of a 150 lb hard top can do when you drop it on your toes... Think smashed grapes. Some guys throw a few rings in the top for hoisting it off, I had a buddy who made a little dolly with arms he slid in from the back and drove out from under it...
