  • Kate Cook's father had only one requirement for her first car: it had to be four-wheel drive. Even before her dad set his conditions, Kate knew what she wanted: a Jeepster Commando. but wanted to find one that wasn't completely disfigured with the aftermarket modifications that so often befall old Jeeps. The Commando they ended up purchasing those years ago was not in the best shape, and thus began Kate's education in keeping a classic running.

A wise old woman told me do something you both like to do.....
In alot of ways this reminds me how lucky I am to have a wife that likes the cars over the years. We have a 75 Winnebago brave that is so nice. We camp all the time and mountain bike together.
Also a daughter and a son that followed their dad's racing ways....
Now I have 3 grandson's that are as well.... Man are they little rippers!
    Great story.... Your blessed.

I love it! I have owned and driven a 1968 Landrover Series IIA since 1987 and my three boys and one grandson learned to drive in it. Now two of my boys have passed on and I will leave the Landrover to my one remaining son.
I recommend moving the spare tire on you Jeepster to the rear so you can get into tighter trails and avoid damaging the quarter panel.

Absolutely wonderful! There are so many deeply thoughtful moments in Kate’s sharing of her experiences and history tied to the Jeepster.
For a shorter duration, but in a similar way, my ‘90 911 has become an extension of who I am. I began working with a trusted shop to modify the 911 several months before I started becoming sick with what turned out to be cancer. Through radiation, surgery & chemo, the interaction with my friends at the shop regarding the modifications was one of the bright spots that sustained me. Now that the worst of the cancer is over and the 911 is back on the road, the driving experience has become even more special as one of my happy places.

I own a Hurst Commando and I love this video and story! There is some very mystique about the Jeepster Commando. AMC did not do the best job building these “weird” trucks, most of them have rusted way and all of them have been forgotten for decades. People just now come around and understand why some of us bought them way before everybody even knew what they were! One of the coolest Jeep ever!

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel
pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in
the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems,
turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and
New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be
done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of
crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
