Me who's just starting out in Data Analysis, laughing with barely any context. Still funny. Good going Luke!
We all gotta start somewhere my dude, fake it until you make it!
Thanks for the kind words as well!!
Bhai tu masters kara hey
As a data analyst, I find R far more intuitive to use than Python. I don't understand why Python is so popular these days. I guess because it is such a good multi-purpose language.
i feel the same way
Is it super popular?
My impression in terms of popularity, at least in academia, is still stata>R>python. But maybe that's just in economics. I use R, but my supervising professor doesn't even know how to use that, only stata.
@@helpIthinkmylegsaregone R is the top language in academia but in commercial settings, Python is much more popular
@@method341 Maybe that's just because it's sort of the generalist language and many people with basics in coding know it or can learn it fast, making it attractive as an industry standard.
I did introductory courses in python, but for anything statistical, I find that R is much quicker and simpler and it doesn't create error because of indentations, which really drove me up a wall when learning python.
Easy interface and coding syntax maybe
"Bayes classifier , thats so Naive of you " had me XD
🤣 Glad you got it!!
"pretty rad chick" Hahahaha. Also the camera stare after Naive comment, classic.
Also 25k subs very soon, amazing job luke
Shoot I would have prefered S over R any day... hahaha. Also glad you got that Naive comment! haha
Thanks as always Sai, 100K here we come!
This was a good video! Hopefully I’ll understand it after I finally get the basics of Python and R down this summer :D
That you will Nicolas! Just keep at it!
R is statistician -designed language, Python is computer scientist designed. R's data structure index starts from 1, and Python starts from 0. R is perfect for statistics, Python is perfect for data science, artificial intelligence (deep learning). R's main job is inside statistics, Python has almost every thing about data science, for example web backend. R's learning curve is little easier than Python.
The panda photo, I can’t even ahahahahah
🐼 🐼 🐼... love me some pandas (animals and the package)
Luke I’ll be expecting the photo of the panda to appear in future videos 🤣 ! It just won’t be the same without it
I totally agree. You should have it in every video. Like how Jerry Seinfeld had super man in his show.

@@hannahmatias Adding it to the set now! haha
I was introduced to python through a course that took a pretty mathematical approach to teach its basics, and I felt in love with it! I'm planning on dedicating some 12 to 16 hours a week on learning python for data analysis. I'd like to dedicate it more time, but I also need to cover excel, SQL, statistics and data viz tools.
Let it be python or let it be nothing!
Great channel, luke. Keep it up!

Hey Luke, that was hilarious, awesome video! I use both R and Python. Though Julia looks interesting, might give it a try.
The Data Professor himself, love your content! Thanks for the kind words. And Ha 🤣 yeah I think Julia is getting a bad rap, I need to try it out myself as well....
@@LukeBarousse
What rap is it?
@@AmirHosseinHonardust rap, as in repuatation.
@@LukeBarousse Thanks for the explanation.I meant to ask what kind of repetution it has?
@@AmirHosseinHonardust I was mostly saying a bad rap, as a joke. I think it can be a great option, I just prefer Python
Its either that R or that Python's logo was printed backwards. Love how funny and creative this is.
Hahaha. Yeah had to print the Python Logo and the monitor-screen backwards so that when I flipped it-in post-production it came out the right way... Funny you noticed this! 🙌🏼
Wow, sharp eyes bro. And Luke, if they noticed it is not the right way man. :D
I always heard R OR Python, one or the other, you must choose and you must choose correctly!
But then I started my online master's program in Data Analytics Engineering 2 years ago and in the first course, our professor said to learn to use both and that has actually worked for me but as someone with basically no programming experience coming into the program (besides a year of learning and practicing SQL right before then), but with a fairly solid and deep statistical, probabilistic, and econometrics background if I do say so myself, I really really prefer R and more specifically, RStudio to Python! Sure me lol, 🤷
I like this professors advice!
@@LukeBarousse and his advice was very matter of fact and not unrealistic either. He wasn't saying to master both, just to use both so you know how they look, basic syntax, and how they work.
I honestly think that is great advice if nothing else so you can read, understand, and communicate with your colleagues who are using it intelligently!
It's is great advice. Although I'd pick one just to get into the programmers mindset and then learn another once you feel more confident. Shouldn't take too long.
I love these! Any interest in collaborating on a skit sometime?

R meaning , Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman were the initial creators of R. It was initially released in 1993 an implementation of the S programming language.

Funny how many people don't know that R is just as much of a programming language as python
Julia is my new favorite slam-piece! I don't know if she's ideal for my project but it's just fun to learn new things! Maybe you could do a video about what kinds of applications she's best suited for? Thanks!

What's your language of choice? Python or R?
Informative Video on Python vs R 👉🏼 ua-cam.com/video/Zcy-ND_4ydQ/v-deo.html
R. Mostly because I'm not touching Python for 3 more months, at least.
R
I tried both and found R code to be much shorter and straightforward
and I work in Medicine and it's most popular in this field, Also I love the Rstudio GUI
R, no doubt. Plotnine and siuba are trying to recreate the magic, but it's not quite there for me yet.
Also, community-wise, the R community is just more fun.

Some of my teachers told me long time ago the naming was some sort of a running joke between scientists who invented those stats languages, the S langage, then the R Language, then the SAS language 🤷🏽♂️, from my POV R being a « rewrite » of S is older than python, but that is subject to appreciation. Pandas is an implementation of the R dataframe 😅, and from my POV any serious stat inference on remote production server is better done with R 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah when I looked into naming convention, they are all based on inside jokes. It's quite funny actually! haha

Coming from R, and now starting to work in Python, I have to say that regular programming in Python is far more enjoyable than in R.
However, how one can use Python for statistical work, data analysis, and plotting is beyond me. WTF. Nothing comes close to dplyr in Python.
Julia’s cool too, but yeah I’m in the R camp for most things
I am a PhD in Stat and a data scientist, and I so freaking HATE Python (although I am writing python codes everyday in my job). It's not even barely usable. I used R for many years and now my new favorite language is actually Julia, it's the future of computing!

Can you do a video explaining why the assumptions of linear regression don’t matter when implementing one in a ML model?
Let me see what I can do on this!
@@LukeBarousse Thank you! I’ve done some research but what I’ve found is not very straight forward and it’s hard to understand. I think a video explaining these concepts will be quite good and I believe you’re really good at explaining data science stuff.
This is because you can calculate the optimal estimators in linear regression in an exact form (mathematically) or just approximate it by ML. They are different approaches.
They really really do though sometimes depending on the context, especially if you only run a standard MLR and nothing else!
Modern ML validation and assessment methods such as cross-validation (sample splitting or K-fold cross-validation) or boostrapping can only overcome the standard assumptions of OLS for Multiple Linear Regression (such as no heteroskedasticity, no autocorrelation, and no multicollinearity) if the data is from what the author Nassim Taleb calls Mediocristan.
If it comes from Estremistan however, the out of sample reliability of your estimates and predictions go out the window!
Python. Automation is owned by that language in the current market. Makes back end easier too!
ML, not an expert on the matter

omg magrittr: magrittr is not a pipe, but thats a funny joke

For data science I prefer R, but that is only after hundreds of hours of headache which finally provided a sort of intuition for the more than occasional incomprehensible logic it has. Once you get all of that shit out of the way it is incredible for management of large datasets, and above all else visualisation which you cannot get with matplotlib and seaborn in my opinion. But for anything else I would pick python every single time.
I love the picture of a panda in the background!!!

I've been programming since I was 13 and honestly computation is totally language independent even though there's always different Paradigm shifts that are always evolving since the days of Fortran.
The truth of the matter is just because there's different libraries and packages that are already written and all you have to do is just pretend to be a hacker and jump into those libraries and packages and develop some code that is not even likely understood because it hasn't really been thought out yet or planned it's just sort of Cobble together.
The truth is the same results can be obtained using Microsoft quick basic so the language platform that the computation is actually performed in & Computation on is actually irrelevant just like anyone could write a thesis using notepad and nobody really needs to use Microsoft Word or Google Docs...
Python will come and go and something else will replace Python and all of its little funny libraries
videos in the future will be doing comparisons on whatever the next flavor of programming language are 10 years from now
Thanks for sharing this!

I haven’t used Perl as much, most data analytic jobs require either Python or R.
R is named "after" S which comes from Statistics

"R" is a frustrating name for a language. Can't search solutions on the web with that. Rename it to RRR or something.

How useful is VBA? And how popular is it amongst Data analysts?
Personally, I've found that VBA is a dying language. In college (and my first job) I used it ALOT. But now that I have found out the power of Python and then also Microsofts other languages (such as M Language and DAX), I feel VBA is on the way out the door.
Can we use R outside data science field?
Yeah you can! but its primarily used in the data realm
I use it for numerical modeling in physics. Performance is not that good, but it's such an intuitive language for any vector/matrix calculations
How relevant is R in the job market these days? I know both, but I'm just curious.
Depends on the employer and industry you are going to. R is more popular in Academia, with Python being more popular in production cases in industry. I think R is relevant no matter what.
