Honestly being self-taught in college tends to be the norm from what I’ve seen.
🙌🏼
Many people are into computers well before college.. some people are used to linux, shell script, terminal operations... dabbled in some programming just for fun and that sets up foundation for computer science.
Yeah it low-key pisses me off when people talk about CS majors like it’s not a hard major taught by professors who usually don’t have any professional development experience, and instead we’re just pampered assholes who get our jobs by simply paying for a piece of paper
facts. colleges just don't teach skills that are relevant to the job market. i'm in college and learning sql on the side lmfaoo
Instablaster
2:09 as a programmer, i agree with the data scientist said, in order to use recursion you have to understand the basic of recursion, because i found that having a strong basic of every coding method makes coding 10 times easier rather than just copy and paste the code.
Very true my dude! I like your insight!
In what course is that taught in ? Like the subject or course name that deals with these things
Wowwww great 👍
@@maxmi5534 Older teachers, they had to build stuff rather than look it up.

As a data analyst, this was on point 😂. And I can see this channel exploding in popularity in short amount of time! The quality of your videos are up there with the UA-cam giants!
Awe thanks Samie! Maybe one day, but until then I highly appreciate your super supportive words, they make my day!
The fact you are using "funny" instead of "parody" makes me believe you're like the data scientist.
I'm more of like the a** hole data analyst... hahahahah
Haha!
... Watson
@@LukeBarousse definitely not
As a Data Analyst who didn’t have a computer degree, I agree to the part that we thought ourselves how to code.
Thanks Jannon!!
Where did u start?
at 2:10 I was SURE you were gonna say "well, in order to understand recursion, you must first understand recursion" lol
Dangit! This would have been a better quote! 😂
Data Engineer mentioned briefly actually does quite a lot of actual work. Machine Learning Engineer as well. Data scientist tends to use lots of math but not enough codes for pipeline. Pretty good video and very on point lol
Thanks for the insight Tiger! May have to make a video on these roles in the future :P
I study computer science and this could not be more true.
ha! thanks my dude!
Noone from.CS side, I've seen a data science job
Hilarious! - "A recursive function is a function that is self defined by itself."
I still don't honestly understand what this dang function is! 😂🤣
sounds like the definition of a tensor. "Tensors are objects which transform like tensors"
Dead laughing for the tabs vs spaces ... what about vim/eMacs ? 😂🤣
You know who those people are that are serious about spaces over tabs! hahahah. Vim/eMacs in next episode!!!
That Silicon Valley reference was awesome 😎
vim is better end of discusion
As a data analyst who knows data science, I approve of this! 🤣
Haha, heck yeah, glad you enjoy!
YOOO!! You really immersed yourself into the Data Scientist role 😂🤣 Really hit the both extremes quite well.
But the if the Data Analyst wasn't so dismissive maybe he could learn something that helps him "earn twice as much for half the work" 🤪
The data analyst has a real attitude problem 😂🤣, he's not much better in real life either... hahah
Great stuff! I'm at a "career transition" point now, looking to move into a Data Analyst and/or Data Scientist role (having been a business analyst, data modeler/requirements hunter, project manager). This video was very educational regarding these two roles. :) :) :)
Thanks for this Ian! Never really thought my dry humor would be educational, but i'll take it! Good luck with the transition!
Oh god , there are 2 of you now, THE HORROR :xP
haha! AND THERE MAY BE MORE 👻, Thanks as always, Sai!!!
Luke this is one of the best videos you have made. I enjoyed it. Great job. Thank you.
Marco, thanks for this! I'm going to try and incorporate more humor into my vids... Gotta keep data science interesting!
What data analyst creates ETL pipelines? Analysts focus primarily on analytics and visualization usually leaning heavily on statistical analysis. ETL is usually part of an infrastructure or development team. Unless it's an incredibly small company with a 1-man IT team, these are usually completely different fields with different toolsets.
Yeah it does depend on the size (AND also how advanced the company is). I worked for a larger company, but we weren't as advanced so I was involved in ETL as a data analyst. So really depends.
Hahahahaha I love the vibes of the two characters - pretty spot on
HA, thank you! ....I may have been partial to a favorite character 🤦🏼♂️
Starting a new chapter late in my life in becoming a data geek which I should have done years ago. Looking forward to becoming a DA then hopefully a DS after. Thanks so much for this hilarious video! 😂
Think this is a great pathway!! I think DS to DA is a great option!
@@LukeBarousse I actually tried to enroll in a DS course but they said it would be better for me to start as a DA to get a good foundation since I have no data coding skills. I've only used web dev languages in the past.
@@alex-sd WEll I enjoy being DA so I know you will too, good luck with the new chapter!!
I don't know why I watched this, I'm a physics and mathematics student. I guess I just like seeing how similar careers in other fields think of each other since there is a similar friendly rivalry between physicists and mathematicians.
Well thanks for tuning in!!
I was here back in march and I didn't understand shit. I started learning analytics and data science around the same time. I still have a long way to go but rn being able to understand terms that I didn't know before feels so rewarding like a mini achievement.
Dude this is so awesome to hear!!! I never really thought of this video being used in this way but so glad it was an achievement for you. Keep it up in your data science journey! You got this!
@@LukeBarousse Your videos on Google Data Analytics Certificate were probably one of the first videos I ever watched about any topic in this field. I'll be completing all the 8 courses in it by the end of this week. I'm so happy I found your video on it. It helped me make the right decision.
@@RitzyMeow Nice!! This is only the start, it only gets more interesting from here. Good luck in your journey my friend!
@@LukeBarousse thanks 💕✨
@Chnnx Arm NO worries at all! I recommend you start here as this will teach you data analytics in a multitude of fields: ua-cam.com/video/fmLPS6FBbac/v-deo.html&t
Wow. It's funny that when you're older and realize that you've actually worked with many people like this over the years in many different industries. Funny video, but very accurate.
🤣 Thanks John!
I'm self taught, and now doing a computer science degree, I feel like both of these people 😂
Ha! I agree! 🤣
That was so awkward and passive aggressive lol
Imagine filming it.... now that is awkward...
XD "what the heck is recursion issue " 😁😂
That's actually how I react in real life as well.. haha
THIS HITS ME HARDD LMAO
😂 Glad you enjoyed it! haha
Your "you scientist" gave data engineers the credit for deploying ML models, but they actually do ETLs too so your "you analyst" is taking its job away haha
🤣😂 🤦🏼♂️
"What would you say you do here?" LOL. This is from Office space, isn't it? 😂
Ha! I may have gotten some inspiration from Office Space.. haha
Data Scientist seems like a nice guy. Data Analyst seems a little jealous.
Data Analyst has ego issues! hahaha
Data analyst earn only half the salary as data scientist.. lol
Hysterical! I haven't laughed at something like this for a while now.
Ha! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Joe!
Best video explaining difference bw the two among all the vids out there..
Luke seems like the one friend you have with a good, balanced personality, good with the jokes but you never get much intimate with him because a few times you did some degrading dark joke for yourself and he kinda took it serious and being a good friend tried to cheer you up and now you feel weird because you tried to imply him that it is not that serious with some more dumb jokes but deep inside you knew that he is kinda right to be concerned and you resent for him because of that.
NGL I do take degrading dark jokes this way
@@LukeBarousse lol i knew it somewhat in very detail
Hilarious !!! 😂😂 as a data scientist I can say this is pretty apt !!
🤣 May have gone a bit overboard on this one.. haha
Honestly, self-teaching is better than going to the class, make notes and use them as prescribed by the teachers in college/universities. I have studied computer science and I'm pretty sure this video is relatable. I am a huge fan of data science, by the way.
Would be cool to see machine learning engineer vs data scientist vs data analyst.
Oh this is a great idea!! I like it!
@@LukeBarousse I’m looking forward to
watch the video. This one was quite funny!
No Data scientist was harmed in this video!
Data Scientist: “A recursive function is a function that is self-defined by itself”
Me: “what the f**k does that mean, Kobe Bryant?”
😂 I know the feeling, Obed!
it is a realistic negotiation , i swear
😂
I love the way he does coding in home screen
🤣
Half the work double the salary
hahaha yep
I just realized I do both their jobs…… what position does that put me in

I genuinely do not know which one is meant to be the data scientist and which is the data analyst...

Hahaha! Gotta make it somehow!
About the recursion, I am still remember when I learn and study about it in Data Structure and Discrete Mathematics course 😂
oh that ole recursion 😂
I love it!!! However, as a data analyst, I am much nicer than a data scientist :P
🤣 This may have been slightly exaggerated... haha
When back and watched this again. So on point.
🤓 Thank you to my Number one Data Nerd!! 🤫 Don't tell Dave!
I just started the Google DA Cert course and I'm quite excited for these experiences lol

On a serious note good luck with the certificate!

Ha! Glad it was educational as well!!
Looks like some cross training would be beneficial for both parties.

Data scientist is doing more advanced work in comparison to data analyst. It’s like the next stage of a regular data analyst.
Yep!!
The random foot popping up in the background at 3:16 gave me flash backs to Saw...lol

he's right...it IS funny!
ha! Glad you enjoyed it!
Data analyst stand up!
STAND UP!!
Did the data scientist insist on putting (funny!) in the title?
Lmaoo this is so on point😂😂😂😂
🤣
So who was the data scientist and who was data analyst ?
I want to do both data and business analyst is that possible
Typically Ive seen roles hired for one or the other. So it really depends on what your passionate about and which one you want to pursue.
spot on!!!
Thanks Alex!
Hey Luke I'm kinda a new in data science field, so I wanna ask you about the device(Laptop) that usually use by data scientist, Is it required to have a good GPU and also good battery life for a long day task? Thanks 🙂
Depends on your use. Are you doing heavy ML with the internal GPU, then yes... I'm a data analyst and rarely ever use the GPU for my job... so it really depends. Regarding the battery it really depends on your power situation. I'm always near an outlet, so battery life is not a concern for me
Yes. Try to learn how to use cloud computing
I would prioritise getting a good CPU, a reasonable amount of RAM (at least 16 GB if you're running Windows), and good battery life if you're frequently on the move. For most data science workflows, the GPU is not important.
A significant number of models in the real world are not Deep Learning models, and are often trained in the CPU (e.g. sklearn models). If the company you work for deals with more complex stuff that would benefit from a dedicated GPU, they'll definitely have an infrastructure you can use to train them. If you're not working, but still learning, you might want to look into Google Colab and other cloud GPU options.
my major is data analystic engineering now😂😂😂 it looks like this major is not as cool as DS
🤣😂 I may have been partial to one job over the other... 🤦🏼♂️ haha but you can't go wrong with either!
I did these 2 roles before. That's true
ha! So you know the pains! Thanks Siu!
