Celebrated Works from the Macklowe Collection to be Offered in May

- The Macklowe Collection at Sotheby’s made auction history last November - becoming the most valuable single-owner auction ever staged. This spring, on 16 May 2022, Sotheby’s will offer a further 30 works from this celebrated collection. In this latest Sotheby’s video, Will Gompertz and Eleanor Nairne, Artistic Director and Curator, respectively, at the Barbican take us through some of the masterworks to be offered this spring, including those by Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke, Agnes Martin, Willem de Kooning, Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti, among others.

Franz Marc's The Big Blue Horses are in the Walker Art Center / Minneapolis. The Small Blue Horses are in Stuttgart / Germany.

The artist were in the right place at the right time. This is not art it’s just an investment that also has a bubble.
Real artist could not sell paintings.

Some of it is truly hideous--which is not to say that it is not still very good art. Picasso has very sharp wit. That Rothko seems to drink light like a black hole.
Warhol, who painted notorious Mao, doesn’t look so good as his self-portrait. Apparently, the self-centered narcissist beautified himself
