    I am a beginner. You explain everything so well! However I used same crochet hook and medium 4 yarn but I don’t understand how to gauge size? Can you help me? The headband I made turned out beautifully, but too small. Did size for small baby. TIA

    • @WindingRoadCrochet
      @WindingRoadCrochet  Рік тому +1

      Gauge is simply measuring the number of stitches per inch. If I have 4 stitches per inch and you have 5 stitches per inch then the sizes will be different. The most stitches per inch the smaller the item will be. If yours came out too small then I would go up a hook size.

      Did you check your gauge? Everyone crochets differently, some crochet tight and some crochet very loose. Make sure to adjust your hook size to meet the required gauge for the pattern.

    I’m a beginner and I can’t seem to get the hang of the YOSLST. I can’t get my hook through this SL through the other 2 loops no matter how loosely I make my stitches. Any suggestions?

    • @WindingRoadCrochet
      @WindingRoadCrochet  Місяць тому

      The best thing to say is to yarn over really loosely but it is it giving you too much trouble you can replace it with a half double crochet. It will look a little bit different but you would be able to finish the pattern.

      Did you check your gauge? Also remember that part of the length will be used for the bow. This Bow headband is worked all as one piece. I want to say roughly 4-5 inches of the length will be used for the bow and not be a part of the length.

      @@WindingRoadCrochet explain the gauge part to me. Thank you

    • @WindingRoadCrochet
      @WindingRoadCrochet  Рік тому +4

      Your gauge is the number of stitches per a certain number of inches. Everyone crochets differently. We can all use the same yarn and same size hook, but some people crochet loosely and some crochet very tight. So when people work 87 stitches the end measurement will all be different. Sometimes it will be a drastic difference and sometimes it will be a small difference. We use a gauge to help make sure the size comes out correctly. The gauge for this pattern is 8 YOSLST X 8 Rows = 2 inches. So if you measure out 8 stitches, it should equal 2 inches. If it equals more than 2 inches, then you will need to use a smaller hook.
      Here is a video from a friend of mine that explains gauge very well: ua-cam.com/video/iE-x56v59Vo/v-deo.html

      I also have a hard time with the stitch when pulling the yarn through the last two loops on the hook. The hook just doesn’t want to go through. What I do is turn my hook toward the back and pull through.

      Have you completed the pattern? Part of the length (about 4-5 inches) are used for the bow and does not contribute to the final circumference. If you have taken that into consideration already then I would check your gauge.

      I only have it up to toddlers, but if you don't mind the size of the bow, you can add as many chains as you need then just follow the video or written pattern and it should still come out. I wrote it that way so I didn't have to add any confusing sizing instructions. You will see the pattern says Yarn Over Slip Stitch "across". That allows for the different starting chain amounts.

      The largest size I have is to CH 97 for a toddler size and the headband should be 18 inches in circumference and fit a 18-20 inch head. My head is 22 inches as an adult so I would try that size for a 4 year old.

    • @WindingRoadCrochet
      @WindingRoadCrochet  2 місяці тому

      Yes. You can add as many chains as you need to the pattern just know that you are adding those chains to the side of the headband that does not have the hole in it. So once you create the hole for the other end to go through, you should not have increased on the bow side of that hole. I hope that makes sense.

      Make sure to check your gauge and remember that this is worked as all one piece, so some of that length is used for the bow. I would say about 4 inches of the length gets used for the bow.
      The gauge is 4 stitches per inch.
      96 sts = 24 inches - (4-5 inches for the bow) = about 19-20 inches circumference for the headband.
      If that still seems big then you can go down a size to get a headband that is 17-18 inches.
