You know what amazed me?? the fact that Alexei did a faceplant into the wall, and KEPT going like nothing happened. I saw this one, and although he messed up BIG time, there were 2 skaters there that impressed me.. Yagudin and a VERY young Johnny Weir..to this day, they remain my favourites. He also managed to finish third. I just thank God he didn't quit-he was going to, after this competition. And I wanna lose 18 pounds..I seriously don't think it affected his jumping ability!!
I would have had him at about 4.8/5.6. He was really lucky that all of the men in this competition (many of the top skaters in the world at the time) also decided to start off their seasons slowly. 3rd place with mistakes on all three jump elements!
