Thanks for this video. Will be making this. Just don't understand folks complaining it is expensive. With a minimal online searching this totals around 70 bucks with a diy lifepo4 battery pack to boost. You could even shave 7 bucks off if you go with a cheaper waterproof box for the battery. Even a basic garden sprayer with a decent sprayer head setup is 45 bucks. This one trumps it in every way so worth the extra 18 to 25. Again thanks for sharing your build.
Right on George. Great idea on the battery. You can definitely find ways to make it cheaper or more expensive to fit your needs. Build from the base concept to suit your needs. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi , there seem to be a lot of people out there who have no or very little knowledge of very basic hands on . What ever happened to look, listing and try. You can do very little damage to themselves, especially when this is 12volt . The can try it on a throw away kitchen container. Really enjoyed it.
Dude! Thank you for sharing. I love this! Check it out, you could just use a metal can and heat it up close to the fire. I'm going to make one. Pretty cool.
Thanks for watching! Great idea using metal. Be sure it’s not too hot :). I use a solar shower (dark water bag) in the summer, but of course that only works when the sun is out. There are a lot of tips in the comments and another video that goes into the build a bit. Feel free to send me any questions.
Ingenious...brilliant. Does the motor actually stop when the showerhead button is released? Or the motor keeps running and just the showerhead output stops?
It turns off the pump that’s why I went with that type pump. Plus you want the auto siphon. There is a built in adjustable pressure switch built into the top.
Hi Jarad. Please explain how you stuck your water motor to the Jerry can. I tried screwing my motor onto a rubber pad and the pad in turn was glued to the plastic can. The problem is the rubber pad keeps falling off, even when I am using high quality adhesive.
Oh that’s a bummer. I think I may have gotten lucky. I used particle board because I had it and measured using a piece of cardboard so it fit tight. Then I used liquid nails in a swirl and turned it upside down with something heavy on it until it dried. I would think you could rivet a thin panel as well but use some food grade silicone adhesive to prevent leaks. I’ve also put the pump in a separate plastic ammo container for another project. But that adds bulk.
I've seen like 15 different videos about this and your set up is the BEST! What a fantastic job you have done here. It's exactly what I had in mind. I have a question though, the battery is in a waterproof case which, I suppose, means you expect this kit to get wet. However, the pump is not in a case. Is the pump waterproof then (let's say rain, not submersible)?
The pump can handle getting wet for sure. I’ve actually filled it from a river. I just ran the hose into the river water to fill the container. If you do this make sure you add a silt filter to the siphon hose. This was an unexpected added benefit to keeping the siphon hose loose instead of fixed through the container.
It’s pretty simple. Round positive polarity connector into the battery. Positive (red) gets the fuse. Red from battery to fuse to red on pump. Black is negative and goes straight from battery connector to pump. Solder and waterproof connections. If you want to get fancy add a toggle switch on either lead. I just use the built in battery toggle though.
Hi, great vids I watched the updated video and didnt see it answered ,but do you remember what the fitting you used inbetween the pump and the shower head its appears to screw into the shower head cord and reduces down to the garden hose? thanks
Yeah that was a hardware store visit with the pump and shower head. I always mess up the threads some are NPT and some are not. Best to fit it all at the HW store. I believe the one I purchased was nylon which was pretty durable. I picked up a few because they were inexpensive.
That’s fantastic and gives me a idea of using a 1-1/2 gallon yard bug sprayer for shower use only in drought area or just camping . Pre warm up water pour in sprayer tank Soap up-Rinse off shower . Would save on gas or electric home water tank usage .
Mostly magic! It doesn’t really run straight. The pump doesn’t run at full amps and you have to refill the water which takes at least an hour. Plus I have 2 battery packs.
Yes the battery is detachable. They are about $35. Standard 12v 6AH lithium ion the battery also has a 5v usb as well so it’s multi purpose. See the parts build list.
@@jaradgolitko Ok. That's great to know and makes sense... So now I'm just wondering how long does the Jerry can give you a consistent shower for before... you need to fill it up with water? And as the water reduces in the jerry can will the water pressure get affected as well??? Or it stays consistent until the very end.
@@kasozi2013 The pressure is consistent throughout. You can use a larger container or another filtered water source. Ive used a sun shower bag to increase the volume and warm the water. I gravity feed it into the jerry can container.
Hey Jarad.. I'm not too far away from giving this ago myself. But I'm wondering how did you stick the pump and battery to the jerry can? And how did you connect the battery to the pump. ?
@@kasozi2013 I cut out a piece of cheap plywood I had and epoxied it. I used a compass to measure the radius. I liked the option of removing and replacing the pump, which is why I went with plywood. Once you figure out the best way to mount the pump wire it positive (red) to positive on the battery and negative to the negative (black). Make sure the connections are strong. I used solder and shrink tube. But you can use solder less water tight connectors. Get a fuse 3amp for the positive lead. It helps to have a water tight case for the battery too. Try to keep everything as sealed as possible. 2 part epoxy and silicone are great for this. If you planning drinking the water, be sure to use a safe silicone or epoxy for any parts that touch the inside of the container.
Sure what’s not working? When I build I typical test everything before I mount and permanently install. So I typically twist the connections to make sure the pump runs and pushes water, then I check to make sure the sprayer works at the correct pressure (pump user manual). Once that’s all working then I finalize and seal the electrical and mount the pump and battery case.
@@jaradgolitko ok. I think the issue is something to do with the pump. Or my power bank might not be strong enough. Please contact my email thomasmatovu@gmail.com so I can share the video with u.
