    Discipline is a choice you make every moment of every day. You have to wake up and say I'm gonna be disciplined. You have to constantly make that choice. That why it's hard. Because you can lose it in an instant.

    I was well disciplined, hungry and in good shape a few years ago. Then one day I crawled out of a car wreck with my back broken in 3 places, pelvis separated from my spine and left foot hanging by the muscle and skin. . After the wheelchair and learning how to walk again I lost heart, discipline and desire to better myself. Gotta say bro, listening to you has definitely helped me find it in myself again. Thank you.

    jocko is great at pause. He is not over the place like tony robbins, yet he is so intense, because of the pauses he makes when he talks.

    • @mojo5093

      dramatic pauses amplify the words
      it gives the brain that short amount of breathing space to appreciate the words, to say "yes i like it"

      Exactly, Tony Robbins doesn't know how to stop and let people process what he's saying. He's always jumping to something new precociously during his motivational speeches and seminars. Jocko keeps it perfectly slow so you can digest all of the information that's coming across to the listener.

    For me, the best way to not lose is to win. It's a hilariously simple concept, but it's profound. Be passionate about life, make self leadership an art form. Inject passion and excellence into everything you do, and the discipline will follow. In fact you'll have to discipline yourself to stop. Be passionate. Passionate and grateful for life.

    As always...thank you Joko and thank you Echo. In my opinion discipline has to come from within you. When I get up to work out at 5 o`clock I dont see Jokos watch. I see it around midday. I am holding on to maintain the standard. And the only thing that keeps me holding on is the fact that I established that standard. My standard. I love my shower at 6 o`clock and I hate everyday that I dont have that shower after my workout at 6 o`clock in the morning. I dont like myself that much if I didnt enforce my discipline. I got those days but I dont like them and I am working towards minimizing them. "Work thru the weakness...fight thru the temptations...its not easy...but its worth it...because discipline equals freedom. Jocko Willink" But at the end is has to come from your soul, from your inner core. It will never be easy but its sweet!

  • @headbanger2867
    @headbanger2867 3 роки тому +1

    Discipline equals freedom. That is a statement I and many others haven't thought about. It makes sense though. If I'm disciplined enough to do or even more so not do whatever I want forever, then I'm free to choose as I wish with no vice or weakness. That's a cool quote.
    I was just thinking while he was talking how discipline gains momentum. In time as we succeed with the discipline it builds value because we've worked so hard to get this far and why would we want to start all over again by not holding the line. People who are disciplined are often very proud, makes sense.

  • @ChadKirk
    @ChadKirk 5 років тому +8

    One thing that helped me out huge was hearing David Goggins say “I want to quit every day... it doesn’t get easier”. Joe Rogan has said it never gets easier too.
    I’ve been on a mission to make discipline come naturally, easier, etc. I though that one day it would become easy to do. But now I know it never will. So I just have to do it and I’m on the right path.

    Aim for the highest good. How do I get the desire? You aim for something good, for others, for yourself. That ought to be your drive. If I want to become physically fit, it's for myself and for others. Even if I don't fully know my purpose now, I am preparing for it; mentally, physically, and most importantly, spiritually.

    I highly recommend Do the Future Authoring Program with Jordan Peterson. First establish a goal and establish the worst possible place that is going to chase you toward the best possible place you can get to. Then they can apply the hardcore mentality of Jocko to your vision. Which worked very well for me. You will enjoy being disciplined if you have purpose and measurable incremental achievement.

      Andrew Ross Its 15 dollars I believe and I can already tell you what happened so far, my grade average (college) went from 1.5 to 3.75 ( although this is atypical because I was extra ordinarily underperforming) I lost weight, started to bj 3 months also and have been doing it non stop. I just generally have more purpose, clarity , grit and forititude in life, negative relationships do not keep me from focusing but I am learning from him (watching lectures, reading etc) how to be a more well rounded person. I improved performance wise but I still have a long way to go character wise. If you do no want to pay yet You can start by watching his lectures maps of meaning, biblical series, and personality lecture after that I recommen sitting down and writing about what you want to achieve for you, for your family, community and allign your interests with your goals somehow. Like the guy above me said clarify and write down the best and worst places you can be in tomorrow, 3 months, 6 months, 3 years and list all the things you know you should not be doing that you regularly do. Try to work on these. But his lectures are insane and free on youtube.

    In my opinion. What makes discipline hard to maintain is that it’s to the only route to happiness and enjoyment of life. Im sure all of us have seen the lowly minimum wage worker who is boisterously happy, joyful and just seems to be enjoying life. The right mindset will bring you enjoyment in life. You don’t need to lift weights, you don’t need to earn millions and millions of dollars, you just need to be grateful for what you have an be compassionate. Continually striving for “success” will to bring you any peace of contentment, in fact it will bring the complete opposite. It breeds anxiety, envy and anger. However, if you intend to be an instrument for the government and do all sorts of dehumanizing and inhuman things then yes, you will need the discipline to overcome your human instincts to treat others fairly and not to be in harm on people. It will take amazing mental discipline to overcome the guilt and trauma you will experience as a warrior.
