The irony of a car for an Oil commercial having bad oil changes.
That's a good advertising - use our products or this will happen to you too
Do you understand the concept of creating a narrative of necessity?
I think it's more apropos than ironic :P

Supercheap auto needs an American market. Just from mcm, the brand awareness is here.
There is an old Kmart nearby just sitting empty 🤔
But then I'd be cross-shopping Supercheap, Napa, Autozone, Oreilly's, and Advance Auto Parts 😵
US stores are better, SCA stocks cheap products that break
Super cheap sells Husky or vice versa. That tool set they were selling is Husky.
Oreilly or autozone is SCA equivalent
i wish we had stuff like japan where used hop up parts showed up at the local parts store for cheap

16:28 you can also have a sensor installed (via bung on the side of the sump) that tells you how much metal particulate is in the oil. There's also multi sensor kits, that have a small pump on them, they pull an amount of oil into the sensor block and then put it back in and they can warn you for water, carbon, metal and even viscosity. Of course, that kind of a sensor array is not for an average car, racing, trucks and expensive rigs, but the metal particulate... especially since it's on the RS232 standard (most are), worth it.
Does the 6cyl RAV 4s not exist in Australia or something? Just curious as to why you guys chose the 4cyl over the stronger 6, would've made more sense calling it the GTRav4 - as then both at least would have the same number of cylinders. Let alone it would've been a hell of a lot more unique, people do boost transverse mounted v6s, but its few and far between the 4cyls. Loved it anyways!
Probably because the gen3 rav4 with the v6 only came a automatic. This little 2 door gen2 with a manual transmission is probably going to be more fun to drive than even a v6 auto with 4 doors.
Chuck a 2GRFE with a supercharger in it.

I mean, you can always move to Syria if you don't like governments
How about we get America to topple our government so we get some puppet leader to turn Australia more shit.. oh wait already happening.
2AZ fe engines are known for their oil burning from crappy pistons, piston rings and head bolts striping. Here in America there was a recall for it.
Loved the music choices in this ep Moog, the track that played during pulling out the (goat bleep) engine and discovering the 'new' engine was also (goat bleep) was low key a jam. Perfect vibe for the situation in the video.
Filmed for an oil promo. Motor dies from poor oil change history. Just a coincidence ? Lol.Hmmmm
Gd to watch tho.

W
Oh man... I was going to sleep right now 😅
It will still be here after you wake up 🤷♂️
The time zone got you good didn’t it
How did nobody mention the fact that 2azfe motors had a recall for bad piston design and the oil ring drain holes being too small and sludging up the motors causing oil consumption or oil starvation.. plus the things have balance shafts with plastic gears inside that blow apart all the time grenading the crank.. i literally just rebuilt one that had 300k on it and oil changed every 5k but had to put a quart every 100 miles or less.. they’re designed to run at idle with 4.7psi of oil pressure..
Yep this is all true… with more time balance shafts probably would have been deleted too, but the swapped in Camry engine is going great now.
Aw damn this reminds me of my old flatmate 😂 he brought his first car and didn’t know about oil changes was a thing … car lasted 6 years with no oil change and on that 6th year.. the engine blow a piston ring 😂
Jimny junkyard engine vibes …which is why this is the best 4wd channel on youballs 😎
Donut's words "Cars are pain" have never been truer

I don't understand why the guys always take unknown engines and put them in without checking the bottom ends. Any time I throw an engine in I always pull the pan and throw new bearings in.
They gave it the berries and blame it on the oil 😂 oopsies
I can't ever read MOOG, you know he made that Star Wars thing as a joke but good lord the nerds will go mad! 🤣🤣
Scotty is jacked, handsome and a fucking genius 🙏

His ancestors were probably Scottish Highlanders. Tall folks, the Scots.
Just had the same thing happen to my mums Tarago which has the same engine. Got Noisy up top, very low oil pressure, was fine the day before etc etc. car meticulously serviced as im a qualified mechanic. Never over due. Decided to drop sump, oil pick up had collected so much gunk over 20 years of ownership. You’d never think being maintained and using only good oils! Have seen many maintained motors also gum and gunk up which had my brain ticking to take the sump off! more commonly though they love to use oil!
An engine known for reliability with extra-frequent oil changes - no more than 5,000 per on full synthetic should not have significant gunk in it; in fact, it should look next to new inside, even at 100k.
What were your oil change intervals?
@@cudak888
That 'might' be true if taking it to a dealer, or local shop, but as HE was doing it, I'd believe what he said.
what was the gunk, silicone blocking a pick up happens when one uses too much sealant
@@oldfashionedwrx3574
That is a VERY common problem with "amateur" builders, and even some very experienced ones who REALLY should know better! It especially grinds my gears when you see them using thick beads where a gasket, or "O"-ring is used!
However, as I read it, it was an OEM original build and the manufacturers don't make that mistake.
In this case, I can think of a few possible explanations, for example... Some engine oil and fuel blends don't work well together - for the most part, this is a thing of the past, but that gunk could have been there for a while. Another is the engine was primarily used for domestic/town running, and never really got the oil hot enough to boil off contaminants. A common issue, that he addressed, is a faulty BPV system, that prevented the crankcase being ventilated properly.
Why are you putting your mums car on the Dyno? She woke up on day and was like I have the need...... The need for speed. And you happily obliged? This has peaked my curiosity. Lmao j/p
Marty’s smile at the end of a long day definitely conveyed more than any words could. Well done lads!
The take away from this episode, and others, is that every parts wrecker in Western Sydney sells unreliable junk engines.
I work at a parts store in south Florida and met a Daihatsu Mira owner and mentioned MCM when I first saw one. Owner was super cool
When I was about 19 I saw an ad for a Daihatsu Cuore TR-XX Avanzato R4 (had to get the full name in for effect, but not sure I got it in the right order), a trailer, an extra set of winter tyres on steelies and a spare ECU for £2,500 and I didn't immediately sell everything I owned to buy it (probably because even if I had, I would've been £2,450 short). I have intense regret about that decision.
I helped an old 'friend' do an oil change on his camry at 150,000 ish.
We cracked open the oil drain and a few globs of thick oil dropped out. After an hour it had collected less than a coke cans worth of oil. I asked when the last oil change was, he told me the dealer done a run in service on it.... like 149,000km before. I did a flush with fresh oil, it came out black a half hour later. He declined to pay for the oil for a second flush so we just filled and changed the filter again. 12 months and who knows how many km later the engine spun a bearing.
Apparently, this was my fault because I helped him change the oil a year earlier.
Camry owners
Love it did a similar conversion over 15 years ago on the first gen RAV4 the stock motor with a old disco potato t28 turbo and made 150kw on 12 pound and pump fuel

Watching that FD RX-7 with the bonnet open is such a tease! This build has been fun, but I am absolutely DYING for the RX-7 series! :D
Also, someone sake some sense into Moog. Car mods and steaks go together (or kebabs if you're still crunching it out in the workshop).
Imagine walking into a garage and seeing an FD and a retro modded brumby side by side. My idea of heaven (just add an e36!)
All my Toyotas have over 300,000 on them and I do 5000 k oil change and never regretted it !
We have 550,000 k on our old 2004 sienna and it runs great!
time to paint the jymny blue and put a Toyota badge on for the advert 😵
Everyone laughs at me when i change oil every 7500km but i know it wont hurt the engine and oil is cheap. One time i made a roundtrip from Finland to Germany. 7500km in 2 weeks and my workmates laughed at me when i again changed the oil. But milage is milage
Love the Smashing Pumpkins Tee!
Why don’t you check if it’s vanished before you even start , it’s getting very boring you bolt on performance parts on a worn engine , as experts it’s piss poor performance
Star Wars beam me up Scotty lol I thats Star Trek
ive replaced a few of those 2az-fe engines, many of them had oiling issues and failed prematurely even with normal oil intervals.
The 2ar is slept on hard. Go look at a UA-camr called Frankenstein Motorworks to see what can be done. He made 270 whp with basically a Camry hybrid engine internals and customs bolt on intake manifold and header and tune from his garage. Basically it’s a stock 12:1 compression motor and he tune it back to Otto cycle type of tune.
2ar never came in the gen2 rav4, only gen3. 2az is not even close to comparable to a 2ar.
Toyotas have bad oil pumps my 2002 celica oil pump blew up sent chunks into the motor all it took was a red line touch.
I know jack about this sort of stuff but I do enjoy watching you guys go through this dyno testing
Came for the "there's no up in space" comment, & left disappointed. But you won't have to.....
200kw first pull I was gob smacked then she blew 😢 I'm curious what numbers it could of got with a healthy engine and budget turbo kit...that thing would of been absolutely fun and hilarious to drive at double the power...

@@mightycarmods yeah boyz 😎 👌
Marty and MOOG- delete the balance shafts on the new motor! They fail on motors with milage and send crap thru the system!! It’s super easy to do and gain some oil pressure.
I’d be willing to bet cylinder 4 bearing left the chat… I’ve worked enough on the 2az-fe’s to know what fails when they let go.. if it’s bearing failure it’s always number 4 for some reason.
Don't think this would have happened with the GEMINI... 😅😂😂😂

I see that the engine tear down video just came out, so I will be watching that now. :) Love the content!
A word of warning too Gent, if your rav is fitted with k111 gearbox it wont take the extra power. You can fit the stronger k114 gearbox from the toyota bus
@colingale - the cvt is stronger? 😂
Whats the k111 gearbox? I thought these came with e354f gearbox?
@@afzali4850 we get the ones from japan and they come with a k111 ctv box, which is a major fail point and will in turn break the engine when the diff explodes. i assumed this did too.
@@TEKSMRT no, but in the toyota stable of cvt's that fit this engine the one from the 4x4 reguis bus is the strong one(aka k114), the weak points if all that came before was they have a diff ment for lots of slip(ice), not slip then grip e.g sand to dry clear tarmac type which the reguis 4x4 was ment for.
@@colingale ???? It's clearly a manual transmission not a CVT?
I know you guys had time constraint but you keep blowing these unopened engines, why not open them up, do some H beams and CP pistons, new bearings. for under $2k you could make all this hard work be a LOT more reliable, and you wouldn’t have to keep swapping blown engines
2k 😂
I hate to be that guy pedaling snake oil, but liqui moly engine flush seems to be a wonder product. I've used it on sludgy old cars I've worked on, I've used one bottle before changing the oil, come out black, and I put a cheap oil in, and use a whole another bottle, and it comes out black again. Put your preferred brand of proper oil back in, and you'll be met with a clean engine! I've done this with an inspection camera in the valve cover and it makes a world of a difference.
Be careful the sludge doesn't drop down into the sump and block the pickup though
@Alex-tu9bh depending on how easy it is you can always drop the pan before the final change and clean the pickup
I like seafoam, or B-12 barryman... Great stuff. Marvel mystery oil has been highly recommended also as a GM top end cleaner in engines prone to carbon fouling
Few 100ml of petrol 👌 not for the faint hearted.
Australia doesn't have the Liqui Moly brand. But yes Engine flush products do work. Only thing is this was get car, fix new parts and go. Not get car, check everything, tear it down, fix new parts and then go.
I remember first watching MCM back when you two were showing how to solder speaker wires in the driveway for a home radio install. Helped jumped start my journey of a interest in cars and tuning into a passion. I just got my r34 imported and thanks to these vids got a haltech system installed into it. Just did my first big mods to the RB engine and now making 440 rwhp on e85. Thanks for all the vids guys keep them coming.

this just hit me. looks like giant blue turd! lol
What an awesome result from a wild turn of events! Congrats, fellas!
Can you guys please make a page me up Scotty shirt?
Let’s go boys
There's another, probably more reliable way to make a turbo RAV4. This platform is related to the 3rd gen Caldina so there is a good chance a 3SGTE will fit with factory engine mounts. The first and second gen manual gearboxes are also related so again, a first gen RAV4 or GT4 box should bolt in. The first gen manuals also had a proper mechanical locking centre diff so no overheating the AWD system in sand
Plenty of 3SGTE swaps in these.
How many times now has Tuning Fork blown up their cars on the dyno?! 😂🤣 PAGE UP PAGE UP!
Considering he’s tuned close to 50 of our cars I think this is one of the only ones that broke. Rx7 did a tail shaft, not really tune related except for the extra power we got out of it. He’s very skilled.
@@mightycarmods yeah we all know he's fully sick... just seams like over the past 16 years... more than one car has had a hiccup on the dyno. 🤣
He’s alright in my book.
My ex-tuner once blew up my freshly rebuilt forged engine and then gave me the keys and said “it’s a bit Smokey but take it for a drive, I’m sure it’ll clear up”
Yeah. Got to the end of the street and the car was throwing every light it had, blowing smoke and turning off on me. He’s absolutely thrashed it beyond repair on the dyno. :(
Tuning fork goes alright in comparison.
@@BaMenace well if the cars gonna break it's gonna be on the dyno...
Well considering scotty just gets whats given him, he tunes them pretty bloody good. He can't magically freshen up an old neglected engine
Just realized that was a 2 door. That’s awesome. I don’t think that was a thing in the US that generation.
Oil take this into consideration

As another American, I wish we had super cheap auto to get parts from! The Mighty Car Mods channel is the best advertising campaign any parts store has ever lucked into.
Maybe the Aussie ones are better made, but in the US the 2AZ-FE has a reputation as an oil burner.
That explains the sludge

I drive a Mitsubishi so i just top up the oil once it all leaks out
0:35 Fun fact.... they never said "Beam me up, Scotty" on Star Trek (or Star Wars 😉)
ahh good old recker engines, we trusted the recker before to and tossed one of there motors they swore was good into my friends subaru and head gasket was bad. then had to fight for another motor PLUS all the work of taking the bad one out
Oil pressure doesn't come from the pump, it comes from the bearings. I'm glad Scott alluded to this.
pressure is a measrument of resistance, so without a pump there would be no pressure. the pressure is caused by resistance. so you are half correct, without a pump and restrictions.... you wouldnt have pressure.
You should have refreshed the bottom end with some new bearings on this replacement engine you got.
That would give that extra chance to survive the boost because lets be honest its probably done a few 100 000 km
I dont know who remembers here in the state when toyota put a v6 in 2nd gen rav4s and they use to fly
Yeah those are sick. I used to work at a honda dealership but would also do sales in the used department. I remember selling one of those to a lady and I was amazed by it. Super smooth and quick.
We have them here in aus, the rav4 zr6
