To be honest, you don't have to address the trolls at all. (They just want the attention). Job loss can be a bit traumatic, but can also be a positive new beginning. I'm confident things will work out for you moving forward. 🙂👍
'Job loss can be a bit traumatic.' With respect: It can also be catastrophic when you're living anywhere out of 'the safety net' of a western country. I loved his 'day in the life ' recent vid. Of course, one can't be expected to sit there and watch it all in one sitting but I think it was a brilliant idea to post it up considering the attention span of most of us now, (including me) One's attention has now been tailored to watching short, snappy offerings so loads of ads can be inserted. It just won't work with a long vid, so all respect to him. Respect to him also, for simply showing - with honesty and dignity, the hell of suddenly loosing your income in Thailand. I wish him well.
Hi mate. Love your content. One of the jobs ( businesses) foreigners are allowed to pursue in Thailand is real estate agent. You seem to enjoy wandering the city and checking out different apartments, condos etc. Helping expats buy and sell and rent might just be a fun and lucrative business for you
Foreigners can't get a work permit to sell real estate in Thailand, neither can they be an intermediary between two parties. Do you have a source that says otherwise??
I owned a Realty Company in Chiangmai!! If you try to broker & it goes wrong your time in Thailand is over. I lost commissions selling condos for a Jap/Thai companies who wouldn’t pay!!! Went to Court & a nightmare. Many brokers out there so be aware…Business now is not easy & every 3rd Thai is a broker.
1. You don’t have to always address the haters in your videos; don’t give them that power 2. What makes you different from some of the other vloggers I watch is that you can actually communicate with Thai people;the best part of your last video was the short conversations you had with them-just needed the translation; I think adding more of that to your videos would be great 3. Sensible to have multiple back up plans. Good luck on your endeavors.
Jon I admire your enthusiasm I just hope you realize this segment is saturated with UA-camrs doing great content. It’ll be a big nut to crack! Wish you luck.
Best of luck with it all, Jon! I DO believe you WILL get it all together in the end! In the meantime, your videos CONTINUE to help me deal with being homesick for Chiang Mai and excite me about flying back there in the next few months! Best Wishes from the Colonies, my good man! 🙂
One video idea is walkthroughs - simply 4k or high quality POV walking through streets. I actually watch a lot of Japan ones in the background or to chill sometimes. Especially cool at night or in rain. No music, no talking, just slow walking through streets. Search 'japan walk 4k' or whatever city/country to get an idea of what I mean. You could build up a solid collection of these with an hour or two walk whenever you want to relax, plus it's good exercise, and, you don't need to spend hours editing, it's all one video.
Hi Jon, I did enjoy your 10 hour video yesterday. We are visiting Chiang Mai in four weeks so I followed your walk on Google earth, you gave me a guided tour so I now know where to visit.
Keep your head-up Jon things will get better!! There's many of us looking for off market deals on real estate. You could be the Condo Man of Chiang Mai!
This too shall pass. Life is full of up and down cycles. As long as you are healthy mentally and physically, you can achieve anything. Gratitude helps.
That's true Jon. You are where you are supposed to be and doing what you are supposed to be doing! I fully believe in that. The future should be exciting!
Hi Jon, if you do include domestic trips going forward in your channel then consider northern Nan province for one. There is a ton of regular worthwhile sights up here plus quite a bit of less visited but really interesting mountain roads, hill trip and unique villages and viewpoints. Trust things work out for you.
Jon, you're a quirky character which makes your videos watchable and you're getting better at making them (10 hour one excepted). If you get to 10k subs and have a sponsor, SafetyWing etc then you'll be more than half way to your monthly expenses, 20k subs and you'll easily be making the 60k baht/month you need. Keep going. You've added 500 subs in the last few weeks alone and it will snowball.
Thanks Tom appreciate that! Yeah we can see how it goes, @nwils6944 I know a guy who does UA-cam full time currently with 14k subs, not about the views than subs
Bro its has not even been a pay period, relax a lil bit. you and your wife go do something you really want to do and then go back to grinding on something else.
John have you considered setting up your own company over here ? Your married to a Thai national so you can setup a family company with 1M baht capital and 2 Thai employees and get your work permit. You seem like a switched on guy who could turn your hand to online and technical opportunities. A general trading company may give you the freedom to develop your own direction whilst maintaining visa and work permit opportunities.
Yep we have out own company for which I have my work permit, the job I had hired out company so at least I didn’t lose the work permit. I’m working on something now but it’s going to be a while until I can announce it :)
Jon: Make sure since you own a Thai company your accountant knows your business whatever it may be. If the revenue dept gets involved for not paying the right Thai taxes …… it’s on you not the accountant!!!
If you don't have haters, you're not doing something right! These are people sitting behind a screen, wishing they were able to do what you've done in your life. Anyone who puts someone down for trying to achieve their dream, is one that has no aspirations, and can't pull the trigger on anything for themself. Keep it going man, and hopefully we'll cross paths at some point over a beer, as I'm moving to Thailand in January!
Jon, don't listen to the trolls. You have carved out a nice life for yourself and you will be back at it at no time. Don't get too down buddy, people are rooting for you.
Jon, you have worked hard on your channel, you have made some really outside the average box content. I see clearly that this is an excellent foundation and the experience you have gained will only serve you well to build the channel and take it to the next level. With your continued hard work and focus I am confident you take your channel to a place that it can bring in enough for your needs. And I wish you the very best of luck with it 🙏
Nice video. I think this situation will end up being a net positive for you, since you have a lot more time now to think about UA-cam, ideas, etc. and a lot more freedom for the moment. Also, I feel memberships on UA-cam are not so great for the creator. I added memberships for $5/mo and after the fees I got like $1.74/mo only for each signup. I guess it's like super thanks, so UA-cam takes a cut 30% and then Apple too 30% on Apple devices. In the end doesn't feel worth it so I'm exploring other monetization options.
Hey mate have you thought about making videos showing people like condos or houses for people that are arrested interested in Chiangmai? I would be interested in something like that. I thought about reaching out to you and seeing if you can find three or four bedroom pool villas, let me know thanks
Please don't reply to or comment on trolls. It just fuels their ridiculous antics. Your channel is focused on Chiang Mai and does well. I'm heading to Chiang Mai for my monthly weekend visit. Who knows, I might see you wandering the streets with your camera!
i selfishly would like to see more videos from youtubers in Thailand and other SE countries that are based on your idea of a homebase since hard to get citizenship anyway in most of these places.....so sorta of a streamlined guide on how to do it affordable. so showing places that do 3 month rentals , efficient travel , best times to go one place or other to avoid bad air quality or rainy seasons if possible. Also specific motorcycle or scooter videos, specialty coffee places or cafes, best surfing spots that are less crowded and mountain bike trails. hope gives you some ideas :) , sorry for long comment
Thanks mate appreciate the comment, I’m working on something now in the early stages that sounds a little bit like that, too early to announce anything now though :)
Forget the haters. I didn’t watch the 10 hour video yet but when I have a long task to do I will play it in the BG. I think it is a great idea for a video.
You don’t need to address comments from trolls, we can see who the trolls are. I think you should rebrand, the Chiang Mai in the name needs to go. You’re a very likeable character and should be pulling in more views but I think you’re being held back with your CM content.
Sorry about you loosing your Job I have always worked for myself Jon you could do a bit of English teaching until something better comes as long you can at least earn 40 000 per month or real estate or both I hope you get a job soon and please don’t take know notice of anyone Jon good luck
Forget the haters, if it bugs you then don't let it, and definitely don't address them on the channel that will just wear you down and even more so as you scale this channel up, you can never please anyone on UA-cam or in business that's just the way it is. The very long video...well there's no problem trying to innovate and test the market - but personally I don't think it will be successful doing more of them, who knows maybe I'm wrong, you have the data.
Patrick & Co. , Bespoke tailor in Bangkok, needs a salesman who speaks English and Thai. I've seen many videos of foreigners buying custom suits, for good prices. I can't wait to buy a couple.
Personally dude, I don't think I would just opt for UA-cam as the sole new job, I would try and get another office job or similar...there are a lot of UA-camrs these days so how many can make a living in a saturated market.
Agree .. youtube is over saturated with youtube Thailand ( from farangs ) content .... Personally, if this is the guys only route to income is youtube ... I would seriously go back home ... there are super limited opportunities here for a farang to make a decent salary ....
