If the UK had those kinds of restrictions on jobs that foreigners can do people would say it was racist/xenophobic. Just sounds like common sense to me. Make sure your own citizens have the first pick of the jobs that they can do and bring in foreign workers to fill skills gaps.
It's too bad Thailand does not feel the same about the shrimp industry. From reports I've seen they have Burmese people working like slaves in the shrimp industry. There's an island in Thailand where some people were detained for years doing slave labor. Shrimp is big business shipping to overseas countries like the USA. The industry must be well connected to be left alone.
Western politicians work for the oligarchs. They write bills that become laws to make the wealthy richer. One of the greatest con jobs pulled on the American people was convincing them to vote for Trump. Trump lived in an ivory tower on Fifth Ave in Manhattan. He got nothing in common with the average person who voted for him. He and his family are using the office of the presidency to enrich themselves. His son-in-law's sister was in China with a business project offering wealthy Chinese to invest in some real estate by using the Trump name. Then can invest $500.000 and get a green card. Why would a rich Chinese person want a green card to live in America? First off in China only the government owns land. The head of Alibaba bought up hundred of acres of land in upstate New York. He does not even live here. Being able to live here and the chance to become a citizen especially when one is rich beats living in authoritarian Chinese party rule.
When I first visited Thailand 13 years ago I learned of these policies and thought they were a tad discriminate. Well being from England all I have learned is this is actually just looking after your own which in England we don't tend to do anymore, because apparently this is considered racist and if you disagree your a bigot apparently. Also apparently if you voted to leave the EU you are either far right or stupid or a bigot. So if Brett is a far right bigot for having an opinion on the UK. What would William say about the Thai Government?
pimpanjoeleo It is interesting how one mans law is another mans breach of the law. If you look further, many of these types of countries stop ownership of land and full ownership of businesses (more that 50%). This is designed to keep land and business out of foreign ownership so wealth of reality and business stays in the country. But this is silly and discriminative, so makes it against the law, in the west!

They are currently revising the "prohibited jobs list" as it is way out of date.. Its still a very grey area for authorities such as the Labour ministry, most of them have no idea about the list or what is and is not included ect. Wether this revision will prove to be beneficial to foreigners or not remains to be seen.
If you have an English teaching credential, you can easily get a job by being an English teacher. Thai people need a lot of English teachers since they don't speak English well. So, they need to study from English native speakers.

Even Thai people won't get employed if the job isn't labor class, the requirement is senior specialists but salary is 1/5 of common salary around the world.
Don't think that a Thai Workpermit and a permission to stay are related . They are not! You need to comply with the rules for work but foremost you need to comply with the rules of your permission to stay. You might think that you can live on a low salary and a workpermit is possible. But then you go to immigration to extend your permission to stay and then you find out that your salary is too low to qualify, you are then downgraded to a tourist visa (7 days), loose your workpermit because that can only be had with another type of visa. Busses full of 'english teachers' and others who desperately want to stay longer drive to the border every single day to get a new visa on entry that allows them another two weeks in the country. Some of them to work illegally and hope they are not caught. If you don't believe it, go to Ekkamai to the big restaurant Baan Rai Cafe and see for yourself. If you are not prepared or do not make enough money then that is how you will end up. Just to be clear about the definition of 'work' in Thailand. It is 'exerting energie',it is not work for a salary. Basically picking your nose is exerting energie. As such when things go not the way you want you can get deported/jailed/blacklisted for any reason, like cleaning your widows, work in you garden. Thai police are actually very forgiving, and give you a chance to better, bt do not get caught twice. Worst is if a Thai person (maybe your competitor or colleague) complains about you a reason can be found with such vague description of what work is. Don' ever!! start a business if you have not lived at least two years in Thailand!!! There are so many traps. Working online is also not allowed but who knows! If you are serious about it never go to a shared office, co-working spaces etc.. Try to setup a business in your home country and get your own clients. When you work online you have to compete with an enormous amount of others that charge very little money, so at least be very specialized to have a decent chance.
if me and my wife open up a small business like say home renovation or a computer shop and we ar 49-51% have amount of thai workers, is it allowd to own a small shop
Hi, wondering if you would mind offering some advice. I'm a teenager who has no experience or skills when it comes to make money online. I know of some things that i can try (youtube, affiliate marketing, drop shipping, etc.) but beyond that, i'm clueless. I have no money at all right now. My ultimate goal is to earn passive income online as fast as possible. What can you tell me?
Hi Khun Brett. Great vid. I wonder if you also could add that many jobs in Thailand also requires candidates to speak, well, Thai. Also, the starting salary isn't too high, but it is what it is and there's always room for upward trajectory. There is room for Westerners, but they have to be at least as qualified as their Thai counterparts. If they're bringing in special skills, then there's additional incentives, of course. But presumptuous entitlement won't get anyone far when they're outside their place of privilege I have an American friend who, upon finding out that I'm applying to be an ajarn at a uni, asked if he could teach in Thailand the way I was going to do. When I asked if he had at least a Master's degree, he said no. When I asked if he spoke Thai, he said no. When I told him that my starting salary as a professor with a PhD would be 30,000 Bahts, he started complaining how life was tough. It feels gratifying to give some people reality check, though.
@Z Z Foreigners wishing to make a career in Thailand should expect to assimilate themselves and expect the same level of competition as they would in their own country. Fair enough? Why bother teaching at unis there? Because I want to train the next generation of health researchers, Thais and other nationalities alike. Believe it or not, students from lower-income countries come to Thailand for graduate studies, and programs are fairly decent for their costs at major research schools (e.g. Mahidol, Chula). These people often go on to make significant impact on the world, and inspire their Thai classmates to do the same. To me, that's a worthy cause. And I know that I'm not beating a dead horse here, otherwise I never would have considered this career choice. It doesn't seem that your comment was in reply to mine as much as a vent of your own frustrations, though. Are you okay? Corporate culture in Bangkok must have made you felt out of place and rather lonely. By the way, maybe you used your Latin abbreviations incorrectly? "E.g. after I'm dead". Exampli gratia = "For example", which makes no sense in the context of "Thailand is abdolutely fucked in the long term here, e.g. after I'm dead." I think you meant to use "i.e.; id est" ("that is"), which would have made a lot more sense because the second part of your sentence was an elaboration on what you meant by saying that Thailand is fucked in the long term.
Great video thanks for all the info but I have a question what about street performing in Thailand would that be looked down upon. I read tarot hula hoop fire perform juggling that sort of thing

That makes me think about continuing my knowledge of crypto currency now, as well as affiliate marketing for things that I use on a dayley. I actually didn't know you couldn't do that in the US. Go figure

Why would you want to do any of those jobs you mentioned, that's menial labour. You would make more money in your home country, that is if you don't live in the third world.
You can actually not do any of those 'menial' jobs. Your extension of stay is only granted when you make at least 60.000 baht a month. So you might get away with in through some miracle (getting a workpermit for a menial job) but extending it would be impossible. I live here now 15 years am married with a Thai woman and have two dual citizenship children. I am still not allowed to do a 'menial' job which is a danger in itself when you land in economic hardship. In my own country i would go do cleaning jobs, drive a cab, anything that would be necessary but in Thailand it is either a high paying job, self employed through your own business, remote working that lasts or leave the country. If you have a high paying job save he money because you will need it once you are fired/retired. For retirement you need at least 70.000 baht a month or 800.000 baht in the bank or a combination of those that adds up to 800.000 per year. If not, no more permission to stay. Married? Children? Property? It is all irrelevant. It is just about the money. Which makes it very clear an easy to understand. Accept it or don't. Never complain about it because those rules are in place as long as i can remember.
Thailand makes up the rules as it goes along. Ive seen countless Russians working the bars , There's a fish farmer in Burriram from the states who works with his wife that I know off. There's a loop hole for anything.
If you really like Thailand that much, the wise way to do it would be to work at home 6 months of the year and save, then go to thailand and live like a king for 6 month's. I'm not sure about meeting a thai woman tho, I just came back from phuket, met a thai lady... most caring, compassionate and loving lady I've ever met, 39 years old so not young, English women need to take note lol. It was all good until she starting mentioning coming to England to open up a massage shop and me paying for her ticket, my response was... well you better get saving because I'm not paying for shit 🤣. She said also you have to pay the family if you want to marry, I was like easy there girl... only known you a week, anyway in UK women pay lol, she said well your in Thailand now honey haha. These women can be smart and i believe most of the time there's a hidden agenda. But im too clever for that shit. She was still a lovely girl tho and i got free sex for a week 😎
Makes sense . But when western countries do this it’s “racist” . Yet it seems very smart that foreigners can’t have certain jobs . Foreigners can’t own land in Thailand either . VERY smart idea . Why don’t we do that In Australia?
I'd be far more intent on finding an alternative place to be in October/November. Seems to be a lot of folk on YT who've forgotten all about the stress fractures that were blindingly obvious prior to the military takeover in 2014, or the fact that the man who legitimised that takeover is no longer with us. Some very interesting times ahead in the LOS. www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-41563661

All you had to say was "protectionism." Every country plays protectionist games to a certain extent. "Locals" are afraid of competition. They don't want to be embarrassed by "outsiders."
Can you work in hotel?
cheers mate quick question I'm still interested in your program work you were putting together are you still training people to do what you do?
Abdul Glover yes, still working on it nearing the end now :)
great I'm moving to Thailand soon next month and I want to be apart of the epic movement it sounds like this would be great for me! here's my email address get in touch when you're finished mate cheers! abduliscool74@gmail.com stay in touch
@@brett_dev I love you video mr Brett
What if I want to do the opposite of coming to work but to hire a housekeeper and take her stateside and get her a Visa and be supportive for her to work for me as a caretaker?
How likely would it be for me to get a job in Thailand? I have three nose piercings and I'd be a foreigner. I do have my hair dyed but I can dye it black.
I'm thinking of becoming a scuba diving instructor and working out there.
Many people do it. I don't know if it would pay very well.
I work as a flight attendant in the states but I'm thinking of working in Thailand (also hold a bachelor's degree in cybernetwork). Is being a flight crew prohibited to work in Thailand
So basically foreigners can't work in Thailand 😂😂
That is not correct. There are many areas of the economy where foreigners can work.
They can, and they do, especially if they have skills in demand. For exsmple, my biostat professors are all foreign.
are the remote work jobs come with full benefits and over $65k per year?
Hey man great video.
1 question I wanna know is a police caution in the uk for punching someone... ( I was young and stupid yes I know )
Will this stop me getting a job teaching English in thailand Bangkok ? Or a English speaking call centre ? I have a lot of call centre experience but I’m worried that a caution.... even tho it’s not classed as a conviction.. will hold me back ... thanks
Highly doubt it. Countries only really look for convictions and prison time, police cautions/warnings/fines are not an admission of guilt on your part
nice video!
I think it would be easier to say what we can do.
Sure retire in Thailand when you're older , but while you're young stay in the west where you'll earn much more money and just holiday in Thailand.
Exactly. I vacation in Thailand regularly. I may retire here one day, but fuck no, I would never just move here to earn a living. That is suicide.
if me and my wife open up a small business like say home renovation or a computer shop and we ar 49-51% have amount of thai workers, is it allowd to own a small shop
Read books and research. Don't rely on anyone but yourself, no one will do it for you.
What if you are a water treatment plant operator?
Hi Khun Brett. Great vid. I wonder if you also could add that many jobs in Thailand also requires candidates to speak, well, Thai. Also, the starting salary isn't too high, but it is what it is and there's always room for upward trajectory. There is room for Westerners, but they have to be at least as qualified as their Thai counterparts. If they're bringing in special skills, then there's additional incentives, of course. But presumptuous entitlement won't get anyone far when they're outside their place of privilege
I have an American friend who, upon finding out that I'm applying to be an ajarn at a uni, asked if he could teach in Thailand the way I was going to do.
Exampli gratia = "For example", which makes no sense in the context of "Thailand is abdolutely fucked in the long term here, e.g. after I'm dead." I think you meant to use "i.e.; id est" ("that is"), which would have made a lot more sense because the second part of your sentence was an elaboration on what you meant by saying that Thailand is fucked in the long term.
i just heard they are doing away with people doing visa runs as well as of the 1st of August after 30 days you cant come back in .
They'll change it and then change it back.
Super video thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great video thanks for all the info but I have a question what about street performing in Thailand would that be looked down upon. I read tarot hula hoop fire perform juggling that sort of thing
+BizarreLotus yes I think so and probably illegal
Tiffany Patton hmm interesting... About the silk. I've never though about importing stuff. That makes me think about continuing my knowledge of crypto currency now, as well as affiliate marketing for things that I use on a dayley.
I also read tarot but I've never read for money YET, but it's always been a dream of mine.
Thank you for reminding me and inspiring me to try again.
I hope everything goes well with your silk sales. I actually didn't know you couldn't do that in the US. Go figure
Brett Dev that's slightly unfortunate. Maybe I can just practice in public of at a part or (an appropriate area) and not solicit anything and make friends that do it there. It might not be to offensive after a time of living there. Idk
Worth a shot

It's a team work, they charge less, you know finding a high demand paid job is very hard bro, opportunity comes but once
This was incredibly informative. You think outside the box, well done!
I'm a black pudding polisher, is that on the list of jobs that is prohibited??
Polished blood-based products are illegal in Thailand. They can be buffed but only to a matt finish.
My name is Matt and I am Finish.
Are you Lili's brother ?
Andy Finbar absolutely but "pudding" is known as a dick in Thailand so you will do fine
P Hern dam sai krok lor.
Gday Great audio , whats the mic ?
Are there teaching jobs in Thailand
How about Fortune Telling / Psychic work? Not joking about this. I'm a professional Tarot card Reader and Rune caster.
Sternwulf Von Drakenwhyk there is a big big market for that online. If your not in that space already, you should be!
You'll need to be fluent in Thai to cater to local clients. Otherwise just market yourself online as Khun Brett said.
Teaching is the obvious one.
Can you give more if you can about lekton is that the right spelling,
Is there more websites and againses in Bangkok that help foreigners find work can you give me a list to get started I 2ant to work in a Bangkok,
LinkedIn?
@@michaelsmith2833 thank you
ps would like to hear back from you. cheers from USA
What about trading the Stockmarket ?
I met a US citizen day trader when I was in Chiang Mai in March. So it seems possible, if you are set up before you get there.
At least many westerners always have the option of becoming English teachers.
Dear Brother
What about the job of Safety officer
im a singer i like to sing there in thailand
Is there jobs for CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS. I M FROM INDIA.
???????
Do you speak Thai all documents are in Thai? Answer your own question.
Why would you want to do any of those jobs you mentioned, that's menial labour. You would make more money in your home country, that is if you don't live in the third world.
A lot of people who message me don't know much about Thailand and are curious.
I need the job now can you help me
Is a basic IT troubleshooting and computer repair business there a decent idea?
No. They are everywhere and owned by Thais. Very low cost.
Hello sir I am Ramswarup from India.i am anemployment so i want working in Thailand
Good luck!
Making hats. Big business.
It is indeed lol
Makes sense . But when western countries do this it’s “racist” . Yet it seems very smart that foreigners can’t have certain jobs . Foreigners can’t own land in Thailand either . VERY smart idea . Why don’t we do that In Australia?
I'm from Thailand
I'd be far more intent on finding an alternative place to be in October/November. Seems to be a lot of folk on YT who've forgotten all about the stress fractures that were blindingly obvious prior to the military takeover in 2014, or the fact that the man who legitimised that takeover is no longer with us. Some very interesting times ahead in the LOS.

Good Job. Get it? lol Long time no talk my friend.
20 Seconds in Thailand lol, how are you Rob?! Yes indeed. I think a collab video in Phuket or Chiang Mai is well overdue :)
Teaching english,chef was not mentioned?
Foreigners working as a chef/cook are banned by the Tha Government
I will never ever understand why anyone would want to move to a place like Thailand.....this place looks like a nightmare to me...the horrible horrible heat alone....yuk!
Why did you even make this comment? Clearly people LOVE Thailand just like people probably LOVE the shitty place where you live. It's all subjective and this video is made for people that subjectively love Thailand, so shut the fuck up, bitch.
most jobs are low payed in thai wat foreigner want to work for less then half nothing
Ah, Engish Teacher.
common sense really aint it look after ya own first uk should copy them
IF I GET A JOB IN THAILAND YOU OWE ME 10.000 $
