  • Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters w/ DotMod.
The single mission "One Versus All" provides a very interesting challenge. You, a lone NATO warship, stumbled upon a Soviet naval squadron, lead by the mighty Kirov-class CGN battlecruiser, plus 2 escorts, either CG or DDG. Your orders are a) survive, and b) cause as much damage as possible.
What is the smallest warship you need to accomplish not only your own ship's survival, but the complete destruction of your enemies, i.e. Kirov and its 2 escorts?
In a different video, I've demonstrated that you need a CG of at least Belknap-class, if not the Ticonderoga-class, to stand up to the power of the Kirov, as you need those SM-1s to kill all those huge ASMs coming at you, then you can kill the ships at your leisure and take a few lucky hits.
The Spruance-class DDG doesn't have enough air defense capabilities. Same with the Knox-class FFG which lacks air defense missiles.
The Oliver Hazard Perry-class FFG, on the other hand, offers a very intriguing possibility. If you are able to "sneak away" until hostiles are like 50 km away, you have a slightly better chance of surviving the ASM barrage, esp. if you swapped out all the Harpoons for a full 40 cell VLS of SM-1s. Then you only have to deal with about 10-20 ASMs with your chaff/CIWS alone. That is survivable. Then it's just a matter of getting into gun range of your 3 incher which is 15.5 km.
However, I personally put your chances at... 25% or lower. Not only your missile defense has to be nearly PERFECT (any leaker can do catastrophic damage such as 5% hull remaining), you also need enough hull remaining to take a few (un)lucky if the escort has front-mounted cannons like the Udaloy.
Watch the two attempts I made. The first time, I took 2 Granits up my baffles and got wrecked. The second time, I manage to run away until I was like 50 km and never turned on my radar until I wanted to. Only got hit by Granit once, but it did drop my hull to like 5%. I shot up and sank both Kanin DDG and Kirov CGN, and was dueling with an Udaloy DDG when we destroyed each other simultaneously.
So yes, it is POSSIBLE to survive the single mission with just a Perry-class FFG.
