@@denizbade.akkoyun Well the Academy didn't give Judy an Oscar aside from a non-competetive juvenile Oscar in 1940. She was infamously snubbed for "A Star Is Born", and lost for supporting actress in 1962 to Rita Moreno.

    • @emilyhayek1132

One if the biggest ripoffs in Oscar history was Judy Garland not winning for a Star Is Born. It truly was one of the greatest performances ever and they gave it to Grace Kelly for Country Girl. Grace gave a great performance in that film but no where near Judy's in A Star Is Born. The big studios snubbed Judy because she was so difficult for studios to work with and control. So sad she was snubbed. Everyone in Hollywood knew that Oscar belonged to Judy. Even Grace Kelly, she said so in an interview with a magazine a few months later.

Anyone else notice that when Liza was nominated in both 1970 and here in 1973, her father, Vincent, was with her both times? They look so much alike and you can tell they had a special bond.
Also when Liza won here, her father screamed with joy in her ear so loud that she was permanently rendered with tinnitus. She jokes about how her “fathers voice is still in her ear”. Lol

First I want to say I am a Diana Ross fan. I love her music and thought she did Billy Holiday proud. Lady sings the blues in my opinion was a wonderful movie. Liza Minnelli was born to play Sally Bowles. She was perfect for this role. The cast were all perfect. She won this award because she was the best actress that year period.

Raquel looked so young and beautiful in this shoot; I love her singing that "woman" song with Cher, she's so amazing!
Liza was great, but I don't think it was so great to win that Oscar; and her speech was below expectations. I'm a big fan of your mother; perhaps this can, for me, expect much more from her!

Ive worked so hard ... OOH YES Ive won... Quick it's not a mistake . Then an flash of enormous Joy! Dad Mom Ive pulled it off !!!!!

am watching this right now on TCM and had to stop and Google to make sure she had won an Oscar for this performance. It's brilliant and I am NOT a fan of musicals at all. She steals every scene in this film. 👏👏👍👍🤠🤠🍻🍻 *postscript: "Do you still think you can control them...?" -Cabaret is a Masterpiece of film and historic art; more than just "a movie". 3/1/2024

0:50 Raquel Welch said “i hope they haven’t got a cause”
She said that because this was also the year Marlon Brando won an Oscar for Best Actor for The Godfather but instead of personally accepting the award, he sent a Native American woman to accept the award on his behalf and to talk about the unfair treatment of Native Americans in the country.

I forgot she almost married "Little Ricky". The son of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez. That was the guy she kissed. She took flack for dating a man 5 years her junior. then when I look at what goes on today I wonder how it was ever a big deal. Cabaret was certainly Oscar worthy on it's own merits, but her mother losing to Grace Kelly? Sham.

Liza Minnelli never married Desi Arnaz, Jr. She dated him. He is 7 years her junior, not 5. And he never played Little Ricky; Keith Thibodeaux played him from the time the character had speaking parts. In addition, the possessive form of the word is "its", without the apostrophe. Otherwise, you got everything else right.

What's interesting is that it's 2019, and ALL the actresses nominated that year are still alive. Cicely's 94, Maggie's 84,, Liv Ullman's 80, Diana Ross is 75, Liza's the baby at 73. It's been a long interesting life for all of these great ladies.

For anyone confused by Raquel Welch saying "I hope don't any of them have a cause", it's a bad joke with the fact that a few minutes earlier, Brando had won the Oscar for Best Actor for The Godfather and in his place came actress Sacheen Littlefeather, who announced that Brando turned down the award in protest at the way Hollywood portrayed Native Americans.
