      @Monsieur Tarzan but Keith Richards gets a pass later in the 70's. Multiple drug busts and he got rehabbed.

    • @mrvlsmrv
      @mrvlsmrv 2 роки тому +3

      @Monsieur Tarzan yeah, he gets a pass. It seems that he got busted in 1967 as well. He also got busted 4 more times including 1977 in Toronto for a quarter ounce of cocaine and an ounce of heroin. Those are dealers quantities. I saw the Some Girls tour in Chicago. Was a really good show. They were as good as Journey who played right before them. They played a lot longer. I think it was Journey's first tour with Steve Perry.
      Anyway I noticed not much quality music coming from them from late '74' until '78'. Might it be too many drugs and not enough rock n roll?

    • @mrvlsmrv
      @mrvlsmrv 2 роки тому +1

      @Monsieur Tarzan you want to watch a guitar player. Watch Neil Schon. Do you think Jagger could sing like Steve Perry. Different skills. I wouldn't want to see Perry do what Jagger does. Schon doesn't get enough respect. By the way, I only have 2 Journey discs. You might not agree with me on taste of music and musicianship. But you're being a snob. Is that a Stones fan trait?

    This is about the BEST of the very-few Jones clips. Jagger and Richards were a big factor in his down-fall; they belittled him and played nasty pranks on him. Andrew Oldham, the manager, was in love with Jagger (literally) and the three of them conspired to trash Jones. Notice how he keeps looking back at his amp.. probably because Oldham was up in the control booth and made sure his boy Richards was turned way up over Jones. Read the Brian Jones biography book.. excellent.

    All I gathered at the time was Brian was so cool, handsome, musically gifted and worshipped by the girls. He was thus envied by the guys.
    Mick on the other hand just jumped around and didn't have a good voice anyway. I guess that's why he jumped around - to draw attention to himself away from the blonde hottie who made the group special.

    When you watch the NME '64 concert and Brian is playing harmonica on those first 2 songs, the way he moves he looks every bit as comfortable playing "front man" as Mick does. I'd always loved his guitar playing but it was only after the NME footage that I really started to take notice of his stage presence. Understandably the cameras loved Mick, but when you see Brian in those old clips he looks just as comfortable and commanding (if not more) on stage as anyone else in the band. What a shame his life spiralled out of control the way it did.

      Brian had health issues, Most newsworthy is Bill Wyman`s contention that Brian Jones` erratic and destructive behavior could have been due to serious undiagnosed medical problems. One of Jones` out-of-wedlock daughters, now in her 30s, is quoted to the effect that she suffers from epileptic symptoms that cause fits and mood swings similar to those exhibited by the father she never knew.

      Even to this day, Keith continues to marginalize the importance of Brian's contribution to the band in the early years whenever the topic comes up in interviews. However, it was Brian's brilliant musical contributions that made the Stones stand out above so many other bands of that era. Subtract Brian's contributions, and all you have is a bunch of somewhat catchy guitar riffs without the magic.

      He was a great player.
      But he didn’t write any songs.
      So when Mick and Keith started writing their hits starting with the Last Time and Satisfaction, the writing was on the wall for Jones. He was a star when they played live but Mick and Keith became the coleaders of the group.

    Brian could've enjoyed such a long and great success, if he were still alive today. He could've done way better than what he did while he was still with the Stones, especially with his huge variety of eastern exotic instruments. He could've experimented with more sounds and styles other than then just blues and rock and roll. And also, he could've collaborated with more musicians and bands as well. He could've had everything, but he secluded himself away from others, took a lot of drugs and alcohol, and failed to adapt to a lot of changes, which eventually lead to his own downfall.

    The Brian Jones fetish is absurd. Because Brian Jones couldn't add anything otherwise, not being able to do the most important thing in a band, write songs, he dabbled in novel instruments adding important texture to some songs in 1965-1966. But then he fell deep into drugs and became useless. This notion he was the Stones or just essential to the Stones is preposterous. The Stones improved with his death and the addition of Mick Taylor and hit their creative peak on the 4 albums from Beggars Banquet to Exile on Main Street.

    • @J..398
      @J..398 Рік тому

      Bill himself said he was the original leader and embodies the Stones. He really only became “useless” after he already wanted to leave the band. And Brian is on all but 2 tracks on Beggars, and Brian and Mick T are both only on 2 tracks for LIB. The only albums Mick T makes a full appearance on for the ones you’re talking about are Sticky Fingers and Exile

      Later on Richards became a bore tying to be more 'interesting' than he was, hiding behind the incoherence that hard drugs give people. Remember that painful interview with "Whisperer" Bob Harris in the 70s? People mistook that for 'cool'....R must have thought all that slurring and nodding made him 'interesting'.

    • @Stephanjnj

      Brian's rhythm playing was always good. He was also an accomplished blues harp player and slide guitarist, unfortunately not featured in this short set. Unlike The Who, the Stones could not have cut it as a four-piece. Keith required another guitarist as backup for his Chuck Berry styling. And when Brian was in the lead, Keith strummed away. Both were excellent rhythm players who were also capable of taking a lead role. Later on, Brian expanded his role in the band with instruments not associated with rock & roll. Virtuosity per Mick Taylor is impressive, although Brian's creativity took it to a higher level.
