I remember 8 years ago driving on Rte 13 on VA when up ahead I saw a Dodge Durango jacked up on the shoulder leasing to believe it had a flat tire. The rear trunk was open and sure enough an officer was sitting inside with a radar gun, up the road were 2 marked units pulling drivers over. Sneaky
I got busted on a rural highway in the 80's with mine. I picked up a steady signal and a couple minutes later passed a trooper going the other way. My brother was an OPP officer in Ontario (he's retired now). It was common for them to drive behind someone at night, flip the radar on and off, and watch for the warning light on the driver's dash.
Here are the penalties for Canada. Radar detector is confiscated and a $500 Canadian Dollar fine is issued. I have been in Canada a few times and I have a Magnum and because I do not have it hard wired, I leave it in the trunk in Canada that way no cops see the wires or that it is on the window. I do not want to risk it
+Vortex Radar It was in Quebec but I believe that Toronto might have the same penalties. I am not totally certain though. That is insane. It seems a bit riduculous. I would like to figure out a clever place to put the detector but I have never hard wired and I do not want to mess around because I do not want to break anything
About BELTRONICS and ESCORT Inc. BELTRONICS Inc. is a major brand under the ESCORT name, the leading manufacturer of high-performance automotive accessories including the world's best performing radar and laser detectors, SmartMirror with built-in GPS navigation, Entourage Personal GPS Security Trackers and Guardian Alert Reverse Obstacle Detection Systems, BELTRONICS manufactures products under the STi Magnum™, BELTRONICS and Vector brands. The company is headquartered in West Chester, Ohio with its principal manufacturing facility located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada....... Pretty ironic that it's illegal to use radar detectors in the province of Ontario, yet OK for Escort/Beltronics to manufacture there! I won a battle and lost the war way back in the early 80's when the OPP stopped me for having an ESCORT radar detector. He confiscated my RD, gave me a $87 CAD ticket which I had thrown out by the magistrate in Mississauga. I pleaded my case as the Queen's Charter stated you cannot Mfg RD's in Ontario. He realized Beltronics was right there doing just that! The ESCORT remained the property of the "Queen"! Hence, won the battle (the ticket being thrown out) yet lost the war ( My Escort seized). Expensive lesson learned.
+Tyler Watthanaphand I've also heard of them being used in TX too. Officers will wait for it to go off, then trigger their radar guns to nab a speeder. It's a way for them to try and catch radar detector users who'd otherwise slow down before the officer can clock them.
+Vortex Radar Any type of official government legislation on Radar laws would be useful. Sort of a page where you cite the info you gathered. Thanks for that asap response too, I think I might sub in the near future. You have great channel here.
+Vincent Ramsey Oh man, you'll have to google it for the exact laws state by state. I don't have that. It's stuff that we've collectively discussed over the years on the forums. Here's my go-to reference, for example, www.rdforum.org/wiki/index.php?title=RDF_Geographical_Survey but if you need detailed specifics, you'll have to do a little digging. That said, as I mention in the video, there's no CA state laws against radar detectors. Radar jamming laws are federal.

Here's what I've seen in testing: ua-cam.com/video/qBGVmoECRZM/v-deo.html Some others have had the R1/R3 be slightly more detectable so I'm going to retest later with multiple Spectres. I know of many people running R1/R3's in eastern Canada and no one has had any issues, knock on wood.

In Ontario it is 3 points and a fine of around $350 it’s been a while but definitely 3 points and fine.
Thank you for the detail!
Since I live in Ontario, I probably have to go with the redline, the magnum, or either the sti driver.
stay away from those who are old and outdated since this video was made. look into radenso pro M or Uniden r 3 and they have a new redline escort.

Radar detector detectors don't alert to in-car radar like blind spot monitoring or smart cruise control. Those operate on different frequencies.
I need one that detects the detector that detects my detector.
There's a few RD's that have that feature, but they're lousy RD's. Instead get one that's immune from being detected in the first place.
