I think coach ben was doing that to misty as a survival tactic as bad as that sounds 😭😭he only had one leg and kinda was dependent on her to take care of him because the other girls weren’t as anticipated in that. I think he was really scared either misty would hurt him or he was gonna either get left behind or eaten lmfao😭😭
honestly, i really do think what he did was justified. they all did unethical shit to survive, so why is ben being held at a different standard? misty kept making him uncomfortable and kept touching him in ways he didn't like. he found her watching him sleep while she was about to touch him. she tried to poison him twice. she literally had no boundaries and he was extremely dependent on her, given that she was the doctor on call. and with his disability, his way to escape if misty did hurt him were nearly nonexistent. he did what women do all the time. we pretend we're okay or into men because we're scared they'll hurt us if we reject them. he kept very clear boundaries and never took advantage of her. he did what he could to try and keep her away. misty is a child with a silly crush on her teacher and him playing with that wasn't okay, but honestly i can understand why he did it. under normal circumstances i'd never deffend him, because what he did was objectively horrible, but these aren't normal circumstances. if we can understand why the girls did what they did, we should extend that to ben as well.
also at the point that this happened i don‘t think he was anticipating that they would be out there for so long. he probably thought that rescue was only a few weeks, maybe months away. he wasn‘t thinking long term consequences, just what was going to keep the peace for the time being.

I don't think she even realized she was dying. Apparently, when you freeze to death it's a lot like going to sleep. I don't think Jackie planned to die like that. Being suicidal doesn't mean someone actually wants to die or can actually go through it, it's a psychological thing and she is a traumatized young girl.
idk if she had it planned out or what, but im wondering how the hell didn't she wake up when it got so cold. if im sleeping with the a/c on and it gets too cold i will wake up miserable. and snow is way worse than air conditioning.

No child deserves to be born and forced to live in such circumstances. The show wonderfully handled Shauna’s pregnancy, childbirth, fever dreams, and some of her grief, but also, relief.
Keep in mind, not only did she poison him, but she cut off his leg and then cauterized it while he was sleeping with no warning. Girl has an axe and is not afraid to use it. I agree that it was a bad choice, but I honestly can't think of what else he could've done when the fear of Misty and her axe and her poison and her positioning of herself as his main caretaker is looming there as he sleeps. Man can't run away! 💀

Lottie running a cult is bad yes but....purple is my favorite color. But seriously, this show inspiring a whole Florence + The Machine song says a lot about how good it is. Not since Twin Peaks I've seen an ongoing mystery be this engaging enough to want to continue to watch, past or present.
I’m a Jackie defender because when they were tripping and she got into that fight with Shauna it felt like a lot of projection from Shauna. She was yappin about shit Jackie never made her do (like join soccer in the first place) and Jackie perfectly retorted that she never made Shauna live in her shadow that was her own choice. And I mean it totally is Shauna is IN LOVE with her and the closest she could be was a subservient side kick until she got aggy when Jackie got with Jeff

I love Shauna's perpetual immaturity, but after a certain point I started feeling really awful for Callie. The fact that Shauna was masturbating in her room and lusting after her boyfriend like she did with Jeff, the fact that she speaks to Callie like she spoke to Jackie, the fact that she thought she literally was Jackie at the party, Jackie's parents offering to pay for her college-- it all seems like she's been grooming this child to be like her dead best friend. And Callie seems like a brat at first, but she also craves her mom's approval. They're closest when she's helping to cover up her mom's murder of her affair partner, and she seems so happy and proud of herself when Shauna praises her and brings her into it.
Jackie was just an incredibly closeted repressed lesbian that was in love with shauna and didn't know how to deal with it + her betrayal. Yeah, she was annoying at times and wasn't really helping with the chores but she's also just a teen and everyone goes through trauma differently ??? Idk i understand people not liking her but i think she's such an interesting character and her death was sooo unfair, they all knew how jackie was, they all knew she was hurt AND really stubborn, they definitely should have gone to check on her during the night or something, so yeah
I don’t understand people not liking her, personally. Like yeah, she’s a little self important, but she’s also a sheltered teenage girl. She’s one of the more genuinely kind and supportive characters in the whole cast.
I think the Taissa storyline of her running for council is legit a real thing. Her anxieties and doubts. This isn't really that publicized but a survivor of the Jonestown Massacre/murder suicide ran for office, and won. He became mayor of his town. Possible the writers used his experience runnung and campaign for inspiration.
I am loving that the only one who adapted their wilderness training to life was Misty with no remorse!!! She can kill anyone quietly and quickly. She can watch and learn anyone from afar. She’s got tricks on tricks and if she doesn’t she adapts. She even learned how to make the others need her even now! I cannot. Well okay maybe Shauna n the rabbit show she picked up some stuff lmao😊
Just stumbled upon this and I’m PUMPED. Intrigued to see if your opinion on Travis changes at all once you get to season 2. I spent season 1 frustrated with him but also understanding of his issues, but season 2 has brought another dimension to him that I find sooo interesting. His behavior totally changes after doomcoming and he becomes like… Just one of the girls? Something about the weird cult activities makes him wanna Act Right. It’s funny at the very least Also seconding the idea that adult!Shauna is still very much a teenager inside, especially in how she interacts with Callie
I'm watching season 2 right now and it's pretty clearly shown that his cult glow up is directly related to his sexual feelings for lottie. He was even obsessed with her as an adult, considering he was asking her to be his vision guide while he hanged himself.
So i am going to say this is probably because of your age, but as someone pushing 40 i totally understand Ben. You weren't alive for the AIDS epidemic and how much fear ppl had in gay ppl especially gay men. It was even worst and he could've lost everything. You could've just be out like today, especially in smaller towns. It's also why tai and van didn't come out until out in the woods. It was wrong of him to trick Misty but with the belief that they'd be found soon it was a risk if he came out.

Also it was obvious she wasn’t going to adapt to the new environment they were all in so it lowkey makes sense for her to die cuz she was the one who was still holding on for something good (being saved, thoughts of home etc). Taking away that goodness allowed the remaining characters to sink further into insanity. Jackie never would’ve been apart of that

On your point about their childhoods being horrible… Totally. It was frightening. Definitely feels right for the 90s in Jersey though. I could be completely wrong, but personally speaking, you get deep into an extracurricular to escape from home, feel seen, and put your heart into something else. This show is so. good.
we get some explanations for everyones backstory but none for misty which is so frustrating because i want to see why she is the way she is!! we only see her pining for ben and sitting at her pool watching a rodent drown. we never get anything we dont already see in the woods. apparently the writers had something written about how her parents are in the medical field but the actress improvised the babysitters first aid and it was cut. she never even mentions her family at all.
Her parents are probably neglectful with her, considering how independent and ready to take action she is. They probably weren't proud of her and didn't try to understand and conect with their extremely smart but awkward daughter

I also think we should have had more time of the girls before the accident, to understand their dynamics a little bit more, because all of sudden everyone was mad at Jackie and I literally went back to watch it because I thought I lost something along the plot 😂 She also had the most "peaceful" death, she fell asleep and it started snowing, she probably didn't even realized she was dying.
I think they wrote Laura lees death the way it was written because In the Bible (old testament) prophet Eliyahu (Elijah) went to the sky in a fiery carriage, it was not a punishment, it was god taking him directly to him because he was good, too good for the people.

I don't think Travis slept with Jackie to mess with Natalie. In fact, I don't think he had the capacity to consent. Jackie was the only one that wasn't high af and she was a woman on a mission (sleep with Travis) so she just kept insisting even when he said he was in love with Natalie. Like, it's not your usual abuse, but parallel to the way the other girls assault him later...yeah. I'm not saying he's perfect, just that I don't agree with that instance.
I think the rat in Misty's pool while she just watched represented her helplesness before they hit the wild and she stepped up. You see her from the sidelines, cheering the other girls on and not being invited to parties and being bullied and made fun of with nobody to stick up for her or help her in any way, and every time she tries to make a stand, whether that's with the bully or jumping in to help Ali when her leg broke, she is chastised and pushed aside. She doesn't get a chance to do anything and everytime she tried she gets all this negative feedback. It shows her lack of belonging and her inability to do anything to help. But then they hit the wilderness and the status quo immediately switches up and Mosty goes from being the lonely outcast to the most valuable member of the group within seconds. Plane crashes ans she is the first up off her seat, hustling to get the door open and help everyone out. She walks around, hears coach screaming for help and is the first to run to his aid. She tracks down that axe amd cuts off whatever is left of his leg and wraps a tourniquet around it to stop the bleeding. Walks around performing triage and applying bandages and cauterising wounds all through the crash episode. She goes from being outright rejected and her skills frowned upon to immediately being placed in a leadership position and having her voice heard for maybe the first time in her whole life.
Yes, Misty did a lot of fucked up things, but every single one of those was done as a misguided bid for approval. All she needed was one mutual, no-strings-attached kind of friendship to put those behaviors to rest (and let's be real, none of the other characters are even nice to her unless they think they can get something out of it) but the ostracization only made her more desperate in that pursuit.
Disagree, some of the group leaving to find civilization was an excellent idea. Abandoning this because someone got hurt was stupid. Once Van was back and taken care of another group or the rest of the group should have took off again. They had a compass so could make sure they weren't going in circles. It was the best chance to get help. What was unbelievable to me was there was no map at that cabin or in the plane. The guy wasn't going to come and go from this remote location without a map. The only reason there wouldn't be a map is if the guy destroyed it because he was afraid he wouldn't go through with offing himself if he could get back to civilization. Although getting back to civilization probably wasn't the problem, it was flying out to the cabin that would be impossible without a map or gps.

The fact that Shauna was masturbating in her room and lusting after her boyfriend like she did with Jeff, the fact that she speaks to Callie like she spoke to Jackie, the fact that she thought she literally was Jackie at the party, Jackie's parents offering to pay for her college-- it all seems like she's been grooming this child to be like her dead best friend. And Callie seems like a brat at first, but she also craves her mom's approval. They're closest when she's helping to cover up her mom's murder of her affair partner, and she seems so happy and proud of herself when Shauna praises her and brings her into it.
Jackie was just an incredibly closeted repressed lesbian that was in love with shauna and didn't know how to deal with it + her betrayal. Yeah, she was annoying at times and wasn't really helping with the chores but she's also just a teen and everyone goes through trauma differently ??? Idk i understand people not liking her but i think she's such an interesting character and her death was sooo unfair, they all knew how jackie was, they all knew she was hurt AND really stubborn, they definitely should have gone to check on her during the night or something, so yeah

I think the Taissa storyline of her running for council is legit a real thing. Her anxieties and doubts. This isn't really that publicized but a survivor of the Jonestown Massacre/murder suicide ran for office, and won. He became mayor of his town. Possible the writers used his experience runnung and campaign for inspiration.

I am loving that the only one who adapted their wilderness training to life was Misty with no remorse!!! She can kill anyone quietly and quickly. She can watch and learn anyone from afar. She’s got tricks on tricks and if she doesn’t she adapts. She even learned how to make the others need her even now! I cannot.

I'm watching season 2 right now and it's pretty clearly shown that his cult glow up is directly related to his sexual feelings for lottie. He was even obsessed with her as an adult, considering he was asking her to be his vision guide while he hanged himself.
I spent the whole series thinking Adam was gonna turn out to be Javi right up to the point where Shauna stabbed him.

You weren't alive for the AIDS epidemic and how much fear ppl had in gay ppl especially gay men. It was even worst and he could've lost everything. You could've just be out like today, especially in smaller towns. It's also why tai and van didn't come out until out in the woods. It was wrong of him to trick Misty but with the belief that they'd be found soon it was a risk if he came out.

Also it was obvious she wasn’t going to adapt to the new environment they were all in so it lowkey makes sense for her to die cuz she was the one who was still holding on for something good (being saved, thoughts of home etc). Taking away that goodness allowed the remaining characters to sink further into insanity. Jackie never would’ve been apart of that

we get some explanations for everyones backstory but none for misty which is so frustrating because i want to see why she is the way she is!! we only see her pining for ben and sitting at her pool watching a rodent drown. we never get anything we dont already see in the woods. apparently the writers had something written about how her parents are in the medical field but the actress improvised the babysitters first aid and it was cut. she never even mentions her family at all.
Her parents are probably neglectful with her, considering how independent and ready to take action she is. They probably weren't proud of her and didn't try to understand and conect with their extremely smart but awkward daughter

and I feel like her character was so likable that when everyone turned against her I was like 'dude, whats going on?' I also think we should have had more time of the girls before the accident, to understand their dynamics a little bit more, because all of sudden everyone was mad at Jackie and I literally went back to watch it because I thought I lost something along the plot 😂 She also had the most "peaceful" death, she fell asleep and it started snowing, she probably didn't even realized she was dying.

Lol. It’s all a lil cliché and teen drama-ish so yah they’re gonna portray Natalie as a “burnout” in the 90s cuz that’s how it is in HS even now (being an athlete does not equate to being popular). Also if we can save empathy for some of these horrible characters b/c of their “home life” then I think we can understand why Ben did not want to immediately reject Misty -this will become more clear in S2. I don’t think he was necessarily afraid of being outed but being one of the few men, being disabled at the hands of one of your students (who unbeknownst to everyone’s else is the reason y’all are yet to be found), getting poisoned and fed human meat 👀.. yeah I think I’d lie and pretend whatever I had to at that point.

I don't think Travis slept with Jackie to mess with Natalie. In fact, I don't think he had the capacity to consent. Jackie was the only one that wasn't high af and she was a woman on a mission (sleep with Travis) so she just kept insisting even when he said he was in love with Natalie. Like, it's not your usual abuse, but parallel to the way the other girls assault him later...yeah. I'm not saying he's perfect, just that I don't agree with that instance.
I think the rat in Misty's pool while she just watched represented her helplesness before they hit the wild and she stepped up.
You see her from the sidelines, cheering the other girls on and not being invited to parties and being bullied and made fun of with nobody to stick up for her or help her in any way, and every time she tries to make a stand, whether that's with the bully or jumping in to help Ali when her leg broke, she is chastised and pushed aside.
She doesn't get a chance to do anything and everytime she tried she gets all this negative feedback. It shows her lack of belonging and her inability to do anything to help.
But then they hit the wilderness and the status quo immediately switches up and Mosty goes from being the lonely outcast to the most valuable member of the group within seconds.
Plane crashes ans she is the first up off her seat, hustling to get the door open and help everyone out. She walks around, hears coach screaming for help and is the first to run to his aid. She tracks down that axe amd cuts off whatever is left of his leg and wraps a tourniquet around it to stop the bleeding. Walks around performing triage and applying bandages and cauterising wounds all through the crash episode.
She goes from being outright rejected and her skills frowned upon to immediately being placed in a leadership position and having her voice heard for maybe the first time in her whole life.

I finally watched the show and was able to watch this vid. Now I’m in desperate need of your take on season 2
Yes, Misty did a lot of fucked up things, but every single one of those was done as a misguided bid for approval. All she needed was one mutual, no-strings-attached kind of friendship to put those behaviors to rest (and let's be real, none of the other characters are even nice to her unless they think they can get something out of it) but the ostracization only made her more desperate in that pursuit.
i truly believe that jackie was romantically in love w shauna and shauna was aswell. theres just so much that tells that so blatantly to me.
Everytime you talked badly about Misty I was like "yes, and?🥰🥰🥰". I just love her, she's so unhinged.

Disagree, some of the group leaving to find civilization was an excellent idea. Abandoning this because someone got hurt was stupid. Once Van was back and taken care of another group or the rest of the group should have took off again. They had a compass so could make sure they weren't going in circles. It was the best chance to get help.
What was unbelievable to me was there was no map at that cabin or in the plane. The guy wasn't going to come and go from this remote location without a map. The only reason there wouldn't be a map is if the guy destroyed it because he was afraid he wouldn't go through with offing himself if he could get back to civilization. Although getting back to civilization probably wasn't the problem, it was flying out to the cabin that would be impossible without a map or gps.
