- The Night Riviera Sleeper Train! ((15/16)/02/23) I rode the Night Riviera from London Paddington to Penzance, where I spent the night in a solo cabin. I had one of the best sleeps of my life!

the little weird boxes in the room are old ashtrays filled in with blocks of metal. Back when the carriages were first built, you could smoke in your private berths, which has now been stopped 😊
I live in Cornwall near Penzance and use this service often for business trips to London and beyond. It’s a brilliant experience and feels like a special journey every time I use it. The GWR staff on the train are very helpful and always seem to be in good spirits. The train is unlike most GWR express trains in that it uses an older diesel locomotive (class 57 for you train nerds out there like me!) and refurbished MK3 sleeper / passenger carriages. It travels relatively slowly and is softly sprung so it’s very relaxing. I also sleep well on the train, despite the bed being fairly narrow it’s very comfy!
Watched a couple of your vlogs and loved them. Very cheerful, funny and well made!
Thanks Dennis!
Great watch thanks..
A lovely travelogue!
Well done! ❤
Cheers MMM!
Fantastic vlog, G! It was nice that you had several Paddington Bears to see you off on your journey. Despite being a bit older than the coaches on the Caledonian Sleeper, it still looked like a lovely room to spend the night in!
The room was great! Thanks barrowc
@@GLovesTrains
Another interesting vlog G. Comparing your Scotland sleeper & this one I very much prefer the cabin on the Scotland sleeper. I can’t remember the difference in money & what the cabin has to offer x
@@GLovesTrains ...how long did you stay in cornwall?
Thanks for video Always enjoy these interesting vids
Thanks!
Awesome video G Loves Trains
Very enjoyable experience and many thanks for sharing.
Love your vids, G. Keep 'em coming ! 🚂
This was an absolute treat! Sleeper trains are the coolest! Thank you for taking us along, it was so good! 😎
Thanks Bobby!
Took my daughter on this service in 2021, absolutely loved it. Fantastic video & brought back many happy memories. Thankyou.
I'm suffering a deep depression at the moment and like you I have a love for trains. Your videos have really been a gift to me while I'm suffering thank you for the help.
seek help, good luck
Becoming aware of the colours and designs of nature helped me - even in the suburbs, and bleak things like the wind and rain and waving branches. Imagine you are a radiator that can radiate the depression out of you, in colours if you want.
Superb vlog G!
Glad you have had the opportunity to do this. 🙂👍
Cheers Ian, it was great!
No idea why YT suggested your channel. But I’m so glad it did. I love it 😁
I bet that was mint!! Once in a lifetime trip I’m sure to do that! Thanks for sharing!! P
What a fun video! You have a very pleasant style of presenting. Well done . i hope you do more.
Thanks for your videos, the whole family enjoy watching them.
Would love to see you travel a train in the USA.
Brilliant video!
Ta Simon!
学生だった頃にNight Rivieraに乗車しました。素敵な思い出があります。ありがとうございます!ペンザンスの人々はとても親切でした。
Mm young Miss G: an enjoyable vid. My own last sleeper was the overnite Lake Shore Limited done by Amtrak, from Chicago (where I was at a Confce there) to NYC. And thence back to Heathrow, on a red eye. Keep em coming..
Superb video, well done.
Amazing cozy sleeper train woot ❤
Very enjoyable style of presentation. Very fresh. I hope to go on a sleeper myself one day.
Thanks Neil!
06:04 they're ladders for the top bunk G, I remember being the Night Rivera once back in 2019 and was sleeping on the top bunk, felt like luggage being thrown around. But a better sleeper than a seat which there was a very lack of sleep when I did that in 2015.... back then in 2015 I remember just getting off the sleeper at Exeter St David's during it hour wait and just roam around the station taking photos of the trains parked on the platform lol Also happy that you finally done the Night Riviera as well, Great Video.
Haha sounds like fun! And I did know it was a ladder.. I think I was just too tired to think at that point 😂 thanks Cyber!
Did this service many times in the past only as far as Par then onwards to Newquay.
Fantastic video really enjoyed your review spent many happy days on that back in the old days!
Thanks!
Lovely video great narration and story x
Had to rewatch this as we just returned from our trip on the night riviera ourselves.
Omg, absolutely loved it, one of my best train experiences so far.
Amazing video btw, just as enjoyable the 2nd time round of watching.
Cheers.
Matt
I love sleeper trains. I really want to try this one as I live in Cornwall. I have only ever been on one previously and it was one of my best memories as an 11 year old. It was from Paris to Italy through the Alps in 1982. It was incredible. We were holidaying in Italy and the world cup was on whilst we were there. Italy won. You can imagine the atmosphere! Best holiday I ever had.
20 years ago I used this regularly between London and St Austell for business, and I always loved it and slept very well. I think the gentle rocking of the train is very comforting, like being back in the womb! It looks as though it has not changed one bit, but looks still well maintained and clean. It's good value for money, considering it saves an overnight hotel. It's a shame they don't have an en-suite option like Caledonian Sleeper do (I'm at the time of life when nature calls in the night!), but all the same I'd love to use it again. Maybe one day.
Such a shame there are not more sleeper services, especially to Europe where much of my business travel is nowadays.

I have always wanted to go on a Sleeper train. It is one of those things that I will hopefully do at some time.
Another great video as usual 😊
I was told about this train today and now here is your video. The Night Riviera is now on my to-do list!
i love your completion. For a better sleep wear a tea cosy on your head .
Video just popped up! Fantastic, well done 👏
I was suggested this video what a great video well edited. I probably will never take a sleeper train but it was still a great watch.
Thanks for great review.. Really helps for the day I get round to trying it :)
Fantastic 👏 informative and entertaining... 👍 ..
Brilliant Vlog as always G the GWR Night Rivera definitely looks worth checking out before I do it I wanted to watch your Vlog to see what it would be like until your next Vlog G carry on being awesome keep up the good work take care and stay safe
yet another brilliant video G, you are a fantastic person who always puts a smile on my face, looking forward to your next adventure. 😊
Thanks AlienZombie! 😁
The funny lumps support the top bunk while the thing you tried to open was the to bunk ladder. It's a great experience and good value IMHO. 👌
Those little shelves you rested your camera on are the supports for the upper berth when it’s in the down position.
I'd love to do this with my kids, 11 and 20,. Hello from Suffolk
I love that you were in Coach G! Never done the Night Rivera, but have used the Caledonian Sleeper a few times before the new stock was introduced. So, it’s nice to see the Mk.3 stock again. I think those weird block things were rests for the upper bunk and the blue light is a night light. I always left it on, so if I woke up in the middle of the night I could find the main light switch.
Travelling on this service is certainly on my bucket list!
Thanks Monty TH!
The contraption at 06:44 is where the top bunk would sit on if it were pulled down.
Love your videos
Another good video G, fun and facts, which is what you excel at x
Great chanel G 👌, newbie but very like you vibe and enthusiasm
Thanks!
I’ve used this service many times but only go down as far as Plymouth.
We’re doing this next month after watching your video 🙌🏻 really looking forward to this!
Awesome have a great time!
Hiya new Sub here I’m a Big Train Enthusiast same as you also Buses
57603 Restmoral Castle looks great it her new GWR livery......hope you had a good time in Penzance...
A journey I really want to do - I’ve not been on a sleeper train for over 25 years! Glad you had fun (and a good breakfast box too!)
The breakfast was great!
I’m definitely going to try this out for sure
You are amazing! 😊
Love your channel ❤️ I'm now a 100% new follower ❤
Great Video - great train aswell, use the seated portion quite often, nice relaxing train & convenient train either from London or from Cornwall, always find the crew on board very polite and helpful.
Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks Trevor!
I've travelled on the Night Rivera Sleeper Service lots of times. My first time I went on this Sleeper Train was in December 2014, before it was refurbished.
Great video 👍👍👍
Did this trip back in August during an all lines rover, great trip and definitely worth it
Yup it sure is great!
Always wanted to try the night riveria and I think you’ve persuaded me! Great review!
Nice review
Love your work G, I'm new to the channel. Would you do some steam heritage lines maybe??
Never seen this channel on UA-cam before. I am impressed with your manner, and explanation. I'm subscribed🙏
Thanks David!
Hey G love everything you do you are always in my heart love you so very much Xx ❤
Thanks Jack!
i really enjoyed watching this one the Nght Riviera sleeper train looks amazing & Penzance beach looks amazing dispite the weather awesome vlog
Thanks Michael!
My hunch was right, G! :) Glad you enjoyed the Night Riviera - it definitely was rather lovely when I headed down to Cornwall. The Queen Victoria Waiting Room is rather grand and really is a nice place to relax before the journey - shame it was closed when you were there. And they made a good effort with the vegan box for brekkie as well - nice to see.
Top tip: if you book to stay at the Longboat Inn in Penzance, you can head straight there from Penzance station and as a guest, drop your luggage off - then check in later in the day. They do the same on check out day too so you get longer around if you need.
I need to do the journey in the summer months so waking up means you get to go over the Royal Albert Bridge into Saltash as the sun rises.
Ah right nice one, thanks!
Just wanted you to know that I enjoy your videos
Very upbeat
Thanks!
That's a awesome Video GlovesTrains
Brilliant video G, glad to see you enjoyed the Night Riviera, i too would like to do this service sometime seeing as it's the only slamdoor train left in the UK now. Also a shower at Paddington station, I never thought you'd be able to shower at a station until now.
Haha me neither tbh unless its raining 😂
Good for you Gloves!!!
Great to see you getting the same excitement and enjoyment in your generation......
......as I did 30+ years ago.....
The motive power might not be the same but that early morning step out into the sea air at Penzance......nothing touches it!
Haha thanks Ian!
Great video G. Keep it up
Thanks!
Looks like a lovely experience.
LOL, the knickers song. Not sure how you trademark something in England, but you should.
5:31 you can take the girl out of The Wigan, but you can’t take The Wigan out the girl 🤣🤣
Nice video G
England stopped at the Tamar btw, you ended up in Cornwall :)
Thanks for taking us along 👍
those odd contraptions, *may* be the supports for the top bunk
Loved this one as much as the Caledonian Sleeper, these are really informative and as always with you G, funny. The beach at Penzance looked awesome and rugged, I expect it will look even better in the summer. Looking forward to the next one and stay safe.
Summer.. are we getting one this year 😂
As an Aussie whose travelled to Penzance a few times by GWR, I have to say the summers in Penzance and Cornwall in general are fantastic!
Lovely to see these trains still operate in the UK 🇬🇧 😊😊😊😊😊. Great vlog
They have slam doors which make it better
A friend of mine did that route to Penzance last summer. His wife and Children were staying with her family near Newton Abbott for some family time, and took the car. My friend was going to join them a week or so later, and rather than take the other car, he thought he would tick a journey off his bucket list and took the Paddington to Penzance sleeper. He didn't tell me about how he got to Newton Abbott, but I strongly suspect he found an interesting route by rail. :) His route back home to Winchester I'm sure was less enjoyable, as he had to drive it!
Oooh, Liskeard is pronounced Lisscard. :)
Two bottles of water in the wardrobe, just where you'd expect to find them lol
I don't know why UA-cam suggested this video. I'm happy it did. I spent the first 4 minutes wondering how gloves were going to factor. You've f**kheaps of charisma, making it very easy to watch. Defo got a sub, dude.
Thanks duude
I used to work this train from Bristol to Penzance. Loved it
Brilliant, and a great view of Carn Brea too.
Of what 😂
Never been on any sleeper trains before myself. Great insight G.
Thanks Jacob!
Wow that looked nice and comfy. Great vid thanks x
Thanks Simon!
That's Beautiful Gloves Trains keep it up with All Hard Work 1M Subs For You
Thanks!
Just showed this to my two year old to show her there are beds on trains, and you can brush your teeth on a train. She loves trains, too. And seeing Paddington out of the window. 😊
Awesome vlog, would love to ride British Trains if I do visit Britain. Really would like to meet you if you do come to America to visit.
You're gorgeous! This is a trip I wana do someday
Very informative vlog, G - I’m also a huge fan of train travel and have always fancied trying one of the sleeper services… based on this, the Night Riviera is becoming my favoured option. I’d also love to see the coastline views in the section through Devon, and by combining a trip on the Night Riviera in one direction with a standard GWR return in the other, I could tick two things off my bucket list - plus a third one if spending a little time in Cornwall, which is a county I’ve never visited… yet.
Keep the brilliant vlogs coming!! ☺️
Thanks Jeff! Hope ya get to do that journey
Great vlog G. I would love to ride the GWR Night Riviera one day. Sure does look like a great experience. The bit near the end where you said final thing I need to do is take the freebie’s out the room something I always do lol. I enjoyed watching as always!
Gotta take the free stuff! Best part 😂
Fab video G.. little thing i always do with locos that terminate at the station is i always pat them and say thanks as i go by 😂😂
Haha thanks Kev!
Gloves, yet another great show here with your travel vlog, interesting that one can have shower before getting on the train, I think your videos are great but I worry about the knickers on your head thing, you have all the makings of a top TV star and could easily become an house hold name, one thinks you should have hung up your knickers on the head thing on the Knicker Hock when you went cross country first class from Penzance to Exeter a couple of weeks ago. No really Gloves, you have a great thing here and I know all your fans will still love you just as much, anyway just a thought, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing your next adventure. Kindest of regards Mark-Edwyn. 🚂🚃🚃
That's the famous blue light.
Have you seen, Caught on a train.😊
Fantastic video as always
Remember getting the all line rover ticket bashing on the peaks overnighters Scotland To Poole sleeper . Anyone know why the EcMl sleepers stopped
They took off the motorail vans and the mk1 bg parcels vans, as well as drastically cutting back the size of the Aberdeen and Inverness sleeper trains (from about 14 vehicles to 6 or 7) The old formations were too long to combine, after the rationalisation they combined the services and used only Euston in the capital.
@@gordonkennaway3847 What year was that Gordon I remember the peaks doing the Scotland to Poole run late 70”s early 80”s
