Is Spiderman 2 a Disappointing Sequel?

- Everyone's excited for Spiderman 2 return, and this time he's got Miles Morales with him. But is this a solid sequel, or a big disappointment? Spiderman 2 for the PS5 is the latest console exclusive, does it make the console?

Brilliant statement, it felt less to what we had in the first game. They’ve definitely taken stuffs out and not added a lot in the game play
the main story in miles morales was done in less than 5 hours? what do you mean there is less here than in miles morales? I thought the main story could have been a little longer, but I definitely didn't think it was too short. You make some valid points I agree the game picked up a lot when Pete got the symbiote before that I thought the story was weak the most fun I had with the side content so far was trying over and over again until I finally got the gold medal for that defeat 20 enemies in 1 minute mysterio challenge.
There should be more side missions like the flame side missions with wraith more missions like that where you get a boss fight at the end of each mission chain I would have loved that. Overall I am having a lot of fun with the game and definitely not disappointed, I think the writing is a step down though unfortunately so in that department the first game is definitely better gameplay wise this is clearly on top I would say I am doing my second run on Ultimate and the combat and traversal is definitely superior in this game, I also appreciate that the combat is more challenging at the higher difficulties ultimate was still too easy for the most part in the first game and the parry system is very satisfying for bosses and regular enemies. The gadgets were a bit lacking maybe compared to the first game, but I honestly prefer to have the parry system and fewer gadgets.
Definitely agree the gameplay was upgraded in this game for sure! Yeah it would have been great to have more fleshed out missions for the side quests. And even the main story too. Like black cat shows up and then is gone in like 15 minutes. So many things like that where they for sure could have given story beats and characters more time. Thanks for the comment!

They forgot what made the first one fun. The first one was fun because you were zipping around the city as peter. You were playing as Spiderman, the second one they turned MJ into some Last of us hero just to give the writer a power fantasy, they shoehorned miles in even though he had nothing really to do in the story line just because their goal is to replace peter and make miles take over, they wanted to ride the venom hype from the movie so he got crammed into the game even though he doesn't ammount to much of anything. They made the world bigger even though they didn't fill it with anything interesting, they made more dumb other playable characters like Miles Girl friend who wants to play as her doing spray painting? The first one had heart and soul the story beats were tied into Peter and seeing Aunt May die was a gut punch, fighting doc ock was emotional because there was emotional stakes int he fight. There really are no emotional stakes. The characters are shallow, the dialogue is horrible, you're doing everything but playing as spiderman, then you have nonsense in the game like MJ turning into a karen just to the lead writer can vent her frustration about men and of course peter just stands there and takes it even though really none of it is his fault because hes a beta male in this game. They had a great game, but then they ruined it by writing the message over fun characters and story. When peter started doing his anti gun petition rant I was like, I'm out. That's not peter talking that's a writer with an agenda talking and simply using a popular medium to spew it onto people.
I couldn't agree more. And I won't be picking up the 3rd one.

I'd have to say you are spot on with what you've explained. The first Spider Man game had more and more to their storylines, their quality and more depth in the characters personalities. I feel like the joy and excitement have been taken out and there is nothing there anymore. They should have delayed the game.

I may be the first one to say this but marvels Spider-Man 2 has really died out since release man. Feels like this game went 2 steps back compared to the first game. Swinging/ combat wise they taken stuffs out which angered me and also they didn’t go beyond in that aspect. The game has been out for 7 MONTHS….. and still no dlc and ppl wonder why the game is dying. I got bored of this game cuz it didn’t have that replay value like it did the first gam. Also another reason why this game is dead is cuz the symbiote plays the exact same way as the other regular suits (apart from surge) but outside of that it’s the same combat/ dodge/ swing animations and the finishers… you can’t even morph into the symbiote in the game🤦🏾♂️ it don’t feel different when wearing it cuz it doesn’t play different. Insomniac really let me down
Yeah its surprising that there hasn't even been dlc news or announcements. Maybe they're gearing up for a miles morales size expansion but like you said with the base game being what it was I'm not even sure I'd have the energy to return to it.
They should've had some more things in between, like a break from venom story line after peter gets it off, maybe introducing gwen and eddie and some other spidey stuff with peter. And then at the end jump back into Venom shenanigans. It would've made this spiderman story worth it and complete
Yes, even without further additional characters, more time with Miles and Peter to really explore their relationship, and the things they were going through, would have been so much more impactful
I love this game, but i kinda agree with the points of this video, i wish we got more side missions like the wrath side missions or the black cat chase, or a daredevil side mission, or playable agent venom, and we needed more time with venom, kraven is perfectly done in this game,

Thanks for the comment! Yeah the game is still fun and there's some great new additions to movement and combat, but at the same time the side content feels super repetitive and basic and there's not enough of it.

Like I said, better side content, more engaging villains and storylines, more time exploring Miles and Peter's relationship and what they were going through in the story. Just more depth overall. I still enjoyed the combat and traversal, but the game is far from perfect, and feels like a step down in some ways from the previous games

I found this game to be disappointing. I too found this game really short and lack of side story and even villians. I hated how some of the other villians were killed offscreen by Kraven. I thought the story was meh, like what was the point in having Kraven if Venom was the true antagonist. I also hated how Kraven's men did all the heavy lifting in capturinng all the villians. He was too much in the background not really doing anything. I felt Peter having the symbiote was too short and didn't really explore more on how the symbiote was affecting Peter's personality, as well as the shift that was happening between him and Miles. It seemed it was going somewhere then not really. And what I hate the most is the MJ missions. I just overall hated her charater in this game. Like she's able to take down Kraven's men with a measly taser and defeat the Symbiotes with ease where each Spider-Man has to 20x combo them. And her training with Sable is a cop out. Overall the first game was way better. Gotta replay Miles Morales don't remember too much of that one.
Yeah completely agree. I didn't mind Kraven it's kind of nice to have multiple "big bad" guys, but definitely agree that he was very weak in execution, and it really did take a lot out of the story that most of his antics happened off screen. Thanks for the comment!
It's funny how games that are on multiple consoles doesn't have these many problems. Yet exclusive ones deals with more glitches and crashes lol animal crossing and mario wonder doesn't deal with these problems
For what it's worth, I didn't run into any issues playing through Spiderman. Sorry if you've had a bad experience with glitching and crashes!
Ah yes modern gaming. When big corporations buy IP's to have exclusives and force the public to buy their consoles, and even then they release half-baked things like this.
The craziest thing to me is that this is a sequel to a game that had so much more in it! They've shown they can do it right why did they think this was acceptable as a follow up?

I'd agree with you on most of what you said, I felt like Peter Parker as a character was dumbed down for the sequel, he gets crapped on a lot in this game, by other characters and by the story. He goes from being a man of science to a rejected high school teacher's assistant. What a f-ing downgrade, our boy Peter is SMARTER than that. Spider-Man 3 if it gets made will probably feature Green Goblin, Carnage and a few others... and I could care less at this point. If you don't care for the heroes, why should I stick around for the villains?
I think Peter was mostly handled fine. His commitment to being spiderman is what causes his drop in social status, and the allure of Harry's offer and the existence of miles is an avenue for him to move on. Felt very reminiscent if the 2nd Sam raimi movies arc but it just wasn't given enough time to really breathe and so it felt more forced and contrived than it needed to. But definitely agree this game does not increase excitement for the series going forward
I feel like Insomniac's only sin was the lack of secondary missions that were instead replaced by secondary activities. Yes, you can ride bikes and go to the amusement park, I love that and I hope they add more mundane things like those in the third game, like delivering pizzas or something, BUT when you think about it, the only playable challenges are Mysteryo's and there's only like 8 of them, no stealth challenges like Taskmaster's and Screwball's in the first one, only collectibles are the spider-bots and all this stuff that piles up and overshadows what you can do as a "civilian". DLC might fix this though, we'll see.
Personally, I don't like the idea that "DLC will fix it." The game should be complete at release, not cobbled together later. And like I mentioned it definitely feels like that's their plan with a lot of the side quests ending on cliffhangers, you just know they held that back to finish as DLC later. Which I very much disagree with
@@capn_sarge I agree honestly, DLC should add to the experience and I was disappointed they're going this route, especially since I loved the main story and the content that was already in game. Hope this was a one time slip and they won't make the same mistake with Wolverine...
I think quarter 1 2024 insomniac will drop some big DLC

Are transfromers superhero’s? An open world character changeable transformers game would be cool af if not that then a accurate hulk game would be nice or iron man someone with a big villain gallery

Even so going back to play the old games makes them seem boring outside of story
I can imagine that with all the additions to the combat and traversal here it would be hard to go back to the previous ones, but those were still solid games in their own right.

The suits are all petty great. Really enjoyed how the spiderman noir one looked as well especially with the spiderverse animation turned on

I don't know what y'all are complaining about cuz this is GOTY for me.
Having criticism is not the same as complaining. I feel like as someone who wants a good product you should be able to criticize a game without outright bashing it. And to be honest the main story of the scheme was not that good tbh at least for me it felt like I was trying really hard to set up the angle of Miles being the replacement for Peter, which I feel like that should have been something for like a third game so at least feels more natural! Especially since the I'm pretty sure you can admit this that they pretty much nerfed Peter compared to the first game and they made him a little bit whiny with him apologizing all the time. And when it comes to the black suit! The black suit combat at least compared to Web of shadows combat was not that exciting. Like while it had the rage mode and it did look pretty cool at some points the web of shadows attacks just felt more powerful and unique instead of just basic combat with some tentacles added in.
Literally one of the best games to come out since Baldurs gate and Alan wake……wdym 4 out of 10?? It made the best selling PlayStation studios game ever made,for anyone who thinks this is just a remake you have 2.5 milllion and counting people to argue with👍
I do my ratings out of 5. I really enjoyed the games combat and traversal, just had some issues with length, pacing, and narrative especially in the side quests. But I still thought it was a lot of fun!

The story is a masterpiece the game play is decent.what i understood is that you dont get the story (i might be wrong for you might have held back some point idk) because they truly hit the peak of spider man games.your point of les content "can" be because of fan demand as afrer seting up venom it was just a matter of time (wich thank fully dint come)before they got up n arms about it and tou can just not like a game i am not coming here to prsue anyone i am just giving my take so pls dont go and go completely angryly in the reply thing just have a friendly debate
I got the story just wish they gave a little more time in it to expand and dive deeper into the characters and what they were dealing with! It was the side quests that I thought really had weak and shallow stories but I really enjoyed the main narrative if Peter miles and venom, again just wish it was a little longer so they could explore more with the characters
Actually I agree with you it was kinda dry in side missions it was so annoying
