Just watched all your videos and just wanted to say, wow.. I wish I could do this but to scared to fuck something up. The fact you can rebuild the motor with ease is 🔥
I did the fuel bowl delete on my truck . I got the kit from a guy out of Florida. Crude Diesel. That fuel bowl is a POS , leaks all the time and in the way . I also upgraded the Turbo to a KC drop in for the OBS 7.3. Of course with the motor still in the truck . I don’t ever want to go through that again. It was hard for my skill level.
Yeah the fuel bowl is kind of a mess! I would recommend that as the first "Mod" to do on any 7.3. The turbo is a bit of a pain to get to. The T4 mount is a little easier, but still a bit of a pain to get to the up pipe flange bolts.
Thank you for watching! I have been slacking with the video's lately. I have a lot of content that I need to edit and post. I recently moved out of state and it has put my You Tube channel WAAAAAAY behind schedule. I hope to have time soon to finish this series. Spoiler alert..... The truck is done and it came out AWESOME!! Please stay tuned.
@@mygarage. Well mate- gotta say, after going trough your videos - its like a mirroring myself. I was handed this 1996 single cab, long bed, 4X4 with the seven3 ruling inside. The engine or truck have only 97.000 miles on it, they even lifted the bed and had the frame done. Anyway - ( I'm trying to replay in a foreign language without spellcheck and other fancy stuff) i was handed this OBS by a customer of mine ( I'm working on US-Fords here in Norway) and it needs some TLC - for sure. The body is rather bumpy-but the rest is mint. You my friend - took care of the squeaky sound coming from the front of the engine simply by posting a video of why the OBS are making this noise and best of all, the fix for it. I have watched your work and have to say - you know your stuff. Its a pleasure watching and i hope you will continue as there are plenty of plp out there that are in need of proper guidance in regards of the seven3 - including myself. So - currently I'm running 238cc/80's with the 38R - I have built the injectors myself and many other sets for friends and family and have to say the hybrids are rather easy to have perform good -even as a DD which mine are. These injectors give excellent fuel mileage - best I've had on my Excursion unloaded is close to 21 mpg hand calculated - BS some say, well - if the seven3are set up right and the driver know's his stuff, they can have some really MPG. Not like what we in Europe are used to ( 1.9 tdi VW doing like 3.7 liters to 100km - average 5 liter to 100km) - but anyway , we are talking about a 3.6t vehicle with a rather large V8 with HEUI injection system which to many are relic stuff. I just love US vehicles - especially the Fords - why, in 2008 the government changed the taxation system, leaving imported vehicles way to expensive. Example - 2022 Expedition - only $ 115.853 US - any vehicle not being taxed-reduced like the Excursion would have been $ 150.000 if not delivered with some sort of battery solution like the Expedition. So - in other words, I'm forced to stay on with pre-emission vehicles and out of those ( before 2008) - I find the seven3the in a Ford the best vehicle for its time. Today - they are all good or bad. They have all they're problems due to emission and what not. Thankfully I'm one of those that have the ability to afford and work on any US Ford vehicle before 2008 and frankly I'm quite happy with it. I had a call some days ago about a 2003 6.0 PSD that the owners had tried multiple workshops , even local OEM Ford system to have the issue sorted. They pretty much refused to work on it - the owners put the thing on tow hauler and delivered it on my doorstep saying use whatever money and time needed - we want it back in working order. Took me some time due to parts delivery from US but some weeks later with a new HPOP (the first gen alu one) its up and going strong. So this is my PSD life - working on and trying to help others out as best as I can and in order to do so I have to roam the internet to get information and guidance as things happens. Thank you US for making this strong vehicle and thank you @My garage for posting videos that make my life so much easier as I have no idea of stop working on them nor any plan of getting rid of to me a really well built vehicle. I could say so much more about any situation today as of today we are facing a rather grim future if SHTF. Thankfully we are in a good relationship with other country's like yourself and I'm very appreciative and thankful for that . Thank you for posting and thank you for your replay, and I hope you will continue posting with a truck you hopefully will kip for another day. I apologize for this rather long and to some not very useful replay. Blessings from Norway. Helge
That is crazy about the import laws, and cost of vehicles! I love your dedication to these old Fords! Keep them alive! Anytime I can be of assistance it makes me happy. Thank you for watching, and thank you for your support.
Did you run into any trouble upgrading to the super duty under valve cover harness? I assuming you have to hand splice that in from the OBS engine wiring harness? I was going with a bigger GPR and wondered if increasing the harness capability would benefit the stronger relay. Thanks, love this super thorough and clean build!
Thank you! Yeah the truck had a hard life. I recently found that this is a replacement engine, the serial number is newer than the model year of the truck... So yeah, I'm sure the previous owner was hard on it. Please stay tuned, I have made a few purchases for some upgraded parts. I think these videos will get better as they go. Thank you for watching!
When you got this parts truck, what variables were you looking for? I.e. miles on engine, compression test? I also noticed you didnt take the heads off and do a complete rebuild. I'm thinking of doing the exact same swap. Into a 93 CCLB with a 460/zf5 already. Sorry for my ignorance. Just here to learn and your videos are very informative.
I got my parts truck out of impulse. Ideally you want to find one that is the same cab and bed size, and has the transmission you want. The miles on my parts truck ended up being irrelevant because the cluster had writing on it from a junk yard, and the serial number on the engine was newer than the year of the truck. I didn't take the heads off because I didn't see a need to. I really just lucked out and got a good engine/parts truck.
6.0 is a good engine once you "Bullet proof" it. But they are more money, harder to find in a junk yard, and not as easy to swap into an OBS. I was looking for a quick easy bolt in swap. 6.0 would be more fab work.
I want to get me a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited 7.3 Powerstroke turbo diesel loaded 4x4 SUV and I was asking is the engin your breaking down the same as the engine in the truck that I want to get? love your work nice
OBS and Super Duty 7.3's are similar but different. The engine block, heads, and hard parts are the same. The electronics are slightly different, the Super Duties come standard with an intercooler, the turbos have a wastegate, and the transmissions are different. But you can do a lot of the same modifications, you just need to get parts that are specific to the year of your truck. So to answer your question..... Yes you can do the same stuff to a newer Excursion.
Yes definitely! All of the hard parts of the engine are the same. The serial number of the engine block I have is actually a 98 production. It will be the same as a Superduty.
Hey man I'm about to attempt the exact same project however my truck is a 1990 F350 crew cab 4×4 with the 7.5 in it, and I'm just trying to round up a list of stuff I'm going to need based off your videos and it being a different body style and interior, was wondering if you have any pointers or know off the top of your head the major things that would be different, also the transfer case I would need? Not sure if it's the BW4407 or BW1356 I'm gonna need, your videos are awesome and I'm only at episode 6! Keep up the great work
Hey! Good luck on your project! Thank you for watching, I'm glad you like my videos. I'm not sure that you are going to need any trim pieces to make the swap, but you are probably going to need to get creative with the wiring. I'm not sure if the connectors are going to be the same, you may have to pin it to work. You can use either transfer case, the 1356, or 4407. I have a 4407 because that's what Ford used in 96, and 97. It is a stronger unit than the 1356. If you can find a donor truck that would save you a lot of headache when trying to source parts.
Ya the wiring and electrical is kinda what's deterring me from doing this swap and the hassles and troubles I'm going to run into, this is the first swap I'll be doing so it'll be a learning curve I got a 96' engine, 4x4 Trans and 4407 transfer case, as far as making the engine fit ill probably be into the same kinda thing you were as for the rad support I assume I should match it to the year of the engine and not the truck? Thanks for replying so quick also if you could give me a list of suppliers you used that would be awesome im in Canada so a lot of stuff doesn't ship here im finding, also the wiring harness should work out if I get it out of another 1996 ford truck im assuming? Sorry for bothering you but appreciate the helpful response.
The wiring can be done. Even mine wasn't plug and play. I believe a 96 radiator support will fit. Reach out to Brian Jellich at Jeli-Built.com he can get you the parts and tunes you will need. The 4407 t-case is a good one.
Thats a good question. I haven't found a good cleaner yet. I usually use a stiff brush and degreaser, then hit it with a pressure washer, then smash oil absorbent grit "kitty litter" into the cement once it dries.... always looks bad, bit fades over time.
Oh the Mrs found out what I spent.... Needless to say I'm not allowed to get rid of the truck now!🤣 I don't have a list or cost break down of this build. What I would recommend doing is reach out to Brian Jellich (owner of Jeli-Built) and talk to him about what your power goal is. He can give you a list and a cost.
You would need to swap all of the wiring out. The IDI engine is a lot different than a Powerstroke. If you get all of the wiring, ECM, and IDM it will work.
The best mileage I ever got out of one of these trucks with a 460 was 14mpg. That was on a super cab, with 3.55 gears, and 31's. It's just not built for MPG. Good reliable engine though.
