Wow, I could not have found a more perfect video for exactly what I need to do. I could only find the right fabric for my groomsmen's ties in a very wide tie online. I figured it wouldn't be too too difficult, but you've made every step so clear, I'm not worried at all. So many sewing tutorials online assume a certain amount of skill, or speed through the worst parts, but this was clear and detailed! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome Savannah! Really glad to hear this as this was what I really wanted to accomplish with this tutorial. Have fun sewing!
I just came back a year later to say that the instruction; what I learned from you has saved me, my sons and many friends hundreds of dollars. I have probably done 150 ties since the first time I watched this. When someone offers to pay me, I just say "pay it forward", Your instruction was a pebble in a pond creating ripples that widen and produce far beyond an instructional video. Everything is connected.
Like I said, just came brack to express my thanks and gratitude. Be well, and thank you 😊
After having a pretty difficult day, reading this has really raised my spirits!! Thanks so much for coming back to let me know. And wow 150 ties!!!😃
Yup,exactly how I did it❗👌👌👌👌👌
😀
Your video was thorough and professional. I'm glad that I kept searching until I found your video. As a result of my efforts, If the tie blows in the wind, and the backside is viewable, the tie will look as it should. Thank you.
Great to hear! I love the fact that you actually care what the back will look like instead of the usual “ nobody will see it” attitude. It’s nice to feel proud of your work. Thanks for watching. Please share and check out my other videos.😊🙏
Best tutorial on narrowing ties I've seen. Very detailed and thorough. You are an excellent teacher. Thank you.
Wow, thank you Ken! Thanks so much for watching😊
I have essential tremor in my hands and find hand stitching difficult so say the least. I have tried making a tie inside out with machine stitching. There are complications which I have tweaked which takes more time to make, and the results are just as good. I have found I need lots of patience, however I do enjoy ( to a point) a challenge, which sewing does provide. Cheers
I was lost on the back tack, until you say how it's basically blanket stitch ❤️
You're an amazing teacher!
You make this project doable and you make me want to do this to challenge myself ❤️ thank you thank you thank you
You are so welcome! You can do it!! If it doesn’t look great the first time, it’s fast enough to unpick and redo. Take you time and be accurate and the outcome will be fine. Thanks for watching!
This is the most complete, informative, and comprehensible tie tutorial I have ever seen! I've been stalling some tie projects for a looooong time -- glad to have waited.
Wow, thank you! Thanks for your lovely comment. It makes it all worthwhile producing these videos. It’s hard to get views so glad that you found it!! Have fun with your projects😊🙏. Please share and check out some of my other videos. Cheers.
This is one of the most professional instructions!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful. 🙂

WoW! There is so much knowledge and work involve in alternating a tie. Even I doubt I will ever try alternate a tie, it was time well spend watching this video. You gain a subscriber👍
thanks for watching!
terrific, clear concise and hekpful
Thanks so much Janice. Hope you give it a try!😊
🎉
I really enjoyed this very much. Not only do you break things down into small steps but you make it interesting too. I was wondering if you could do a video on turning ties into retro hair ties with wire ( yep I watched that one too : ) ) I see lots of ties in op shops and garage sales that I love the look of, but don't know how to convert. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! I will put it on my list of requests. ( I have a few…). Are you after the same wired headband? Thanks again for watching.😊
Would you please consider doing a sewing tutorial on how to sew a little boy tie?💙 👔
Can’t promise but will put on my list of requests😊
@@NotchesSewing Thank you for considering…your tutorials are amazing, so I can only imagine the requests!😊
This is clearly the best video all the other ones are basically disinformation.
Question, when doing the slip stitch, do you also catch some of the canvas in the tie? Or only the silk?
Just the silk. Thanks for watching 😊
@@NotchesSewing Thanks Notches! Keep up having fun.
Great video. My husband has 37 nice ties that are 4" wide. I have been noticing that tutorials showing how to make a fat tie skinnier go back as far as 2007. My fear is that as soon as I'm done making all of my hubby's ties narrower, fat ties will make a comeback and narrow ties will be considered "dated". Obviously, I would not be able to make the ties wide again. I'm thinking that a 3" width might be safe? or maybe 2 3/4". His suit lapel is 3". He is 6' 185 lbs.
thank you🙏 Wow he’s got a lot of ties! I’ve read the rule of thumb is to have the tie the same width as lapel. The tie in video was narrowed down to 2 ¾ “ as you can see at the end of the video. I find that and 3” wide is quite nice. I think the best thing for you to do is just pin back the tie to width you like and just have him try it on. Narrow one or two of his favourites so he can wear them now. It’s hard to predict fashion and it’s always safer to have classics. Thanks for watching. Please have a look at some of my other tutorials. Cheers!😊
I want to know how to sew the long lace. I want to detail it
I am not clear what you are asking about lace?
Sorry, I did not write clearly because I am from Iraq. I wanted to say I want to detail the long tie. Can you post a video while you separate the tie?
Hello, is it possible to narrow just one side? because it has a logo on one edge
It’s hard to say without seeing the fabric and logo. Just try lightly pressing place without cutting anything first to see if it sits properly around the centre piece. You may need to adjust the seam in the middle as you are changing the angle to which it is attached. Good luck!
Mr Flinstone 🤗🤗👍👍🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🤓🤓 ... eh may i ask, is skinny tie ... more preferable or fashionable there in your country Angela? (i mean because to the point that people may need to do alteration to narrow a too-wide-tie) 🤓 long time ago, my friend had to give a way his tie gift because he said it was too narrow 😖😖🤓🤓
Hi Nongnong😊 From what I read, the current trend is to shy away from extremes. So not too wide and not too skinny. Between 2 ½ “- 3 ½” is safe. Keep in mind the size of the person too as a very skinny tie may look too small on a larger build and vice versa.
Thanks again for watching 🙏🙏🙏
Where did you get the yellow snips? , all the ones I see are neon orange. Thanks 😊
It was actually a mistake delivery as I had ordered a metal one……
@@NotchesSewing They look very nice. Thank you for replying and for the awesome tutorial. 💕
Thank you. Here are some inexpensive but awesome snips amzn.to/44otv4h
@@NotchesSewing I saw them in another one of your videos and bought them, they are nice 🤩😊
Hi - I have several ties I’d like to reduce size. Would it be possible send some ties to you? If so, what is the cost per tie? Thank you
Thanks for watching. Sorry I am not taking on alterations and I am also in Australia. Cheers!
@@NotchesSewing Thank you.
