    What does she mean by sewing on the line @4:33. Wouldn’t that sew the outside fabric together on the inside?

    • @123Dreamit
      @123Dreamit  20 днів тому

      Hi 🙂
      It's a kind of magic, but basically it works like this because the triangular pieces are smaller than the measurement of the main fabric. This causes the outer fabric to pull towards the reverse side when flipping the piece, so when sewing straight and flipping the fabric to the right side, the corner will be perfectly formed. Trust the process.
      Many thanks for visiting us!

      I need help for a very important project. My best friend passed and we were quilters, not seamstresses. I cut out all your patterns perfectly, but my numbers don’t match your numbers at all in cm or inches. Can I just cut the fabric according to your templates and it will work out? Like your interfacing template is not at an angle at the end like is shown on your page and rather cut straight down. Thank you.

  •  4 місяці тому

    Why is the length of the silk fabric (1.54) different than the one of the woolen fabric (1.41) if at the end they are going to match ?? It doesn’t work ?!

    • @123Dreamit
      @123Dreamit  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi! this difference is better understood when we do the step-by-step, but the main reason for the different measurements is so that the wool piece fits the measurements inside the triangular pocket that is formed when sewing the lining and silk. If you cut the same size and sewed all the layers of fabric together the thickness of the seam allowances wouldn’t give a flat finish to the tie ends.

      Ok what she means is you measure 3cm from the tip of the tie and mark it across the width of the tie 3cm from the tip{ |> } Then fold in half the length of the tie with the point facing to the right then you sew where you marked the 3 cm line
      1St part |> then after fold |--` fold it the length of the tie you get a half triangle. I omitted doing this part entirely and the tie came out fine

    • @123Dreamit
      @123Dreamit  Рік тому +1

      Hi, bias is the fabric direction allows for the most stretch. Bias refers to any line diagonal to the crosswise and lengthwise grains. Most bias pattern pieces are laid on the true bias (45º angle); the grainline arrow and the pattern's layout instructions will help you align your pattern pieces.

  • @chrislusbytaylor3197
    @chrislusbytaylor3197 5 років тому +1

    You say you will need 1 metre of silk, but the 45 degree bias line on a 1 metre length is 141cm, not 154cm. So you actually need a little more than 1 metre. But, if you are making just one tie it is more economical to cut the silk in two pieces and join them. Nearly all my commercial silk ties are joined, between a third and a half of the distance from the thin end. The join is cut across the width of the cloth, so it appears as a diagonal line on the finished tie.

      Hi Chris the length of the bias depends on the width of the fabric here in Mexico all are 1.50 wide or more so actually 1m its enough. If you want to cut the silk its ok, but we want to show a easy way to make a tie, sew to the bias it's an advance technique to sew it's no for basic sewing.

      @@123Dreamit you can, of course, cut at 50 degrees to the lengthwise grain, instead of 45 degrees, to get 154cm from 1 metre length of cloth at least 120cm wide. My point was that, while this may not be noticeable in many materials, but it is in some, depending on the pattern. Apart from this point, I think your video is very good.
