    Dnipro was the first place I visited in Ukraine and I've been back there 3 times. It's certainly not dodgy. One of the things I like about Ukraine is the variety ... each city has its unique feeling and attractions and the likes of Lviv, Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, etc all have their own charms. Dnipro is worth a visit. Plenty things to see and visit. 🙂🇺🇦👍

    Dnipro is a fantastic city and I recommend anyone to visit. It was a closed city during Soviet times so maybe it has been a little slow to react to the development of tourism but there are some interesting and beautiful places here as well as a huge amount of Soviet buildings and artefacts which helps to make it such a fascinating place for a foreigner to visit and to live in.

      Yeaah, I really love this city! I'm glad, that it's easy for me to go there, because I live in a nearby region.
      But do you really like Soviet buildings? Oh, then, welcome to the East of Ukraine! We have a lot of gloomy, boring and ugly Soviet "boxes" here. =D

      @@mariyabronnik I understand that if you have lived here all your life, especially those who have lived under Soviet rule, then it's something you want to escape from, but to me, even living amongst those huge grey Soviet-built apartment blocks is interesting and discovering an old Soviet mosaic or memorial is exciting. For me, Ukraine is an endlessly fascinating country for many reasons.

      @@DistortionGallery excuse me... I was just surprised, that someone likes "khrushchevki" and our country as a whole. Especially from another country. (you are from GB, right?) A lot of people hate our country because of corruption, poverty (yes, we are poor, but it doesn't mean, that we are Africa, as someone says, haha), because of stupid stereotypes and... because of the ugly "khrushchevki".
      By the way, I read, that soon, the "khrushchevki" will be restored/rebuilt. But I think, that our government will again steal money...and will not restore anything.=D
      Of course, I hate the USSR. It killed our elite, our patriots, our artists and writers - the future of our country. It wanted to destroy Ukrainian language and identity of Ukrainian nation. It robbed my people, including my family. My relatives told me, that they couldn't even taste butter in USSR. Although once my family was prosperous, it earned everything by itself.
      All post-Soviet countries are poor, you know.(except for the Baltic. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are brave, they broke out of this sludge and became normal European countries)
      And sorry for mistakes.

      @@mariyabronnik Yes, I'm from England where life is very different of course. In Britain there is still a lot of interest in Russia and the former Soviet Union countries, especially amongst older people like myself who lived through those times, although from a safe distance! )) But there is much more to Ukraine than being a FSU country. It has enormous potential in terms of people and resources and because of its geographical position and its history, it is the most important country in Europe. Ukraine has fought hard for its independence and has paid a terrible price but we all hope that things will improve.

    • @mariyabronnik
      @mariyabronnik 3 роки тому

      @@DistortionGallery yes, I also hope, that the situation will improve. But we have little chance. First, this is because of the pro-Russian parties in our country. There are a lot of them and they are destroying our country from the inside. They don't allow the adoption of normal laws, that could bring us closer to Europe. (oh course, not geographically, haha. Geographically, we are always Europe, Central-Eastern). Second, corruption and oligarchy are probably our biggest and most embarrassing problems, because of which our economy is "dirty". Oh, and the next one is Russia. They will never let us go. They think, that we are their poor colony without own culture, language and history. They have several versions of how we appeared - first, we were made in the Austrian General Staff, second - Lenin made us, third - we appeared in the 90s, when Poles and Russians mixed. Oh, and yes, they also say, that we are the servants of "Gayrope" and "Anglo-Saxon countries." (this is "Pendossia" (America) and, of course, the United Kingdom). Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy.

    I visited Dnipro in Jan 2019, which is probably one of the worst times of year to do so, but still enjoyed it. While I'd spent the rest of my time in Kyiv, I wanted to experience Ukraine outside the capital as well, and took the overnight train down one night and then back the next. I spent the day exploring the city on foot, including the core downtown on the south of the Dnieper, Monastery Island & beach, the Industrial district on the north bank of the river, and the Samarskyi district to the east. I never felt unsafe. Absolutely zero tourist scammers to avoid. (Dnipro, January, need I say more) Everyone happy to speak in Russian by default, which really cut down on the awkwardness of me being unsure if I just couldn't understand them or if they were speaking Ukrainian that I struggled with in Kyiv. I will happily return and spend more time there... in the summer. :)
    My travels in Ukraine were much more oriented toward finding a lovely Soviet sink to spend time with than clubbing and bars, so other viewers of this channel may find less of their interests in Dnipro than I did.

    Well Horse. It's your Polish speaking Irish viewer in Ukraine again. Look lad, this one popped up in me feed prob cos I was googling Dnipro a bit of late, I was there at the weekend. It's only dodgy if you're afraid of your own shadow. Kharkiv itself, where I am based for another 5 weeks, is quite safe. Dnipro was even safer, if anything had less variety of nightlife probably due to the economic pressures of the last 2 years. There were just 4 or 5 nightclubs, discos, open in the whole city on Saturday night, but I was able to enter with my Czech vaccine card(thank God I kept that in me wallet, cos me certificate was in the hotel and the internet didn't work in the club's building). The club complex in Sfera wasn't great but let's say witha few drinks you could enjoy it in an old school way. Before that and afterwards again, I enjoyed Karaoke as ever, singing in my bad Russian with Polish pronunciation. Any solo male traveler can definitely have a good time. Honestly women are probably just afraid of it due to its reputation. It was EXTREMELY safe during my 2 days there. I'll be in Krasnograd this weekend in Kharkiv Oblast. I stopped there twice, on the way to and fro Kharkiv by bus, so on the opposite side, I look forward to some interesting small town tourism this weekend after my Ukrainian language class on Saturday. Btw the roads ain't that bad between Kharkiv to Dnipro, not exactly as bad as southern Ukrainian or Moldovan road. Definitely go to CASTA restaurant pub in Dinpro for GREAT KURWA PIWO/PIWECZKO z Dniprą/Ukrainą and CHEAP but great Woks/burgers. Recommended by all my Dnipro friends too. You can have an amazing meal and drink for under a fiver

    I lived in Dnipro for more than 5 years. It's definitely not as dodgy as this person is making it out to be. Yes, you'll run into some dodgy parts of town, but that's true of any city in Ukraine (or the world for that matter). It's a shame you didn't bother filming anything outside of the very center, nor did you get much of the parks. Shevchenko Park is nice and very large, and Monastery Island is probably the nicest out of them all. For those closer to the Metro line, Globy Park also isn't that bad. They're all great places to go for walks. By the way, the Metro is currently being expanded, as it is now though it's pretty much useless, but I'm sure it'll get a lot more use once the expansion is complete.

    Ok I'm not gonna lie, your comment at the end hit home a bit, but at least 6 people on Saturday night spoke Polish to me, so I guess as I can pass for a Pole, and understand more of Ukrainian cos of that when my Russian lets me down, it makes me almost street wise, definitely less likely to have problems at closing time. Again though, if you speak a slavic language and understand the basics of the local lingo, I think Dnipro is easy to go to, I will try to go back before my Moldovan trip. I definitely forget what it is like to be a tourist expecting people to speak English though. Polski surzhik goes a long way. Probably we are lucky as western Europeans, but again, very little anti social behaviour anywhere in Ukraine, actually you get more problems in places like Ostrava or Kraków on weekends than any of the 5 or 6 Ukrainian cities I have spent time in so far. Thanks again for this video. Definitely great to get an Irish perspective rather than Ben the Brit fights hobos and calls locals gopniks style crap. Probably not a place for someone shy or who only wants to speak English all the time, but that's what makes it fun kurwa, shlondra.
