@@chiyo_110 how you split the layers is up to you, the more layers you add the better animations you can make but at the same time is more things to consider when making the animations
@@chiyo_110 You don't HAVE to make a bunch of layers. In fact, as long as you keep shading and base colors separate, you can have all the shading on one layer for each part. It is more difficult to make complex animations, but it can make your workload much easier. Keep SHADOWS separate from your shading, though. And each moveable part needs to be separated as well (though as to how many parts you want, that's totally your choice). Don't psych yourself out because you think it's "too hard". This kind of stuff is easy to people who have spent years practicing this very process. I promise you it'll get easier once you start learning, but if having 400~ layers is too much for you to start out with, it's totally okay to have 100~ or so. It seems like "a lot", but in actuality, you're just keeping the layers separate instead of merging them all together onto one or few layers. In fact, think of it like this: If you keep separate folders (like this artist did), name them as follows: "hair (front), face, head, chest/boobs, torso, arms, hands, legs, feet, hair (back)". I even labelled them in order of top-to-bottom, top being the parts that overlap other parts beneath it. If you think about it, that's only 10 parts. In those parts (folders), you add sub-parts. Sub-parts that have a left and right should be separated into left and right (left eye, right eye, left arm, right arm, etc). Now, let's say each part has a left and right (not accurate, but just hypothetically). That increases your parts to 20 (2 parts per folder, as at this point we are no longer considering the folders themselves to be parts). Depending on whether or not you keep your line art and base colors separated, you will now have 30 parts. With shading, you now have 40 parts. With shadows, you now have 50 parts. With highlights, you now have 60 parts. The more complicated, the more parts you have to create. If you go step by step, you'll find yourself at 100 parts in no time. If you'd rather have an easier workload, stop after making a torso! You don't need legs. In fact, you could even stop at the chest/boobs. It's all your choice what you wanna work with. If that's still not easy enough, just make a chibi model and use cell-shading so you don't have to be super detailed. You could have as low as 50 parts for a nice-looking, cell-shaded chibi model. Anyways, don't beat yourself up about something you don't yet have the skills to do. It takes a lot of time, energy, and practice to get to the point of making 400+ layer projects. With hard work, you will find yourself at that point someday soon. Good luck, and keep practicing!

At first I thought I could make a vtuber model and become a vtuber but when I try to draw one I always hate it and I dont want to spend hundreds or thousands on something that might not even work out and looking at this makes me have hope that it gives me atleast some good idea of how to do some of the more hard stuff but also utter sadness because I feel like seeing this makes me feel like I couldn't draw a vtuber model even if I wanted to and don't even get me started on the shading
How much would is cost to get one of these done? XD I can draw but not at that level of skill or vtuber model know how XD I am trying though. EDIT: Thank you for the info and help! I am now working on my own models and hopefully I might try my hand at commissioning in the future, but for now it’s for my own enjoyment
the usual price for commissioning someone to make a vtuber model for you is around $500-$1000 depending on complexity and whether your model will be full body or half body. and thats only for drawing, rigging costs another $500-$1000, depending on how complex the rig as well :)
quick question ! i’m not great at digital art but i can do traditional art,, could it be possible for me to draw a model in my sketchbook and trace it in photoshop/clip studio paint ?
Yes! It would be more time consuming than directly drawing the model digitally, but absolutely! What you have to make sure is that you separate the layers correctly, if you're feeling innovative you could even cut the parts without tracing, only filling in what's necessary and make a "traditionally" drawn model!
Yes, but I would be cautious of how you digitalize your work, especially if you’re not used to using digital. I’d recommend getting used to digital first. Traditional and digital look and work TOTALLY different.
