In case you guys weren't aware, what you refer to as "infected Zero" is actually what he truly is at his core. So, it's more like an awakened Zero. Granted, the virus is what woke up the monster within, but it did nothing more than that to him. Sigma even states that he engineered the virus specifically for that purpose.

Zero always was infected, it's the reason he is good, originally he was so evil that when the virus, meant to raise evil traits in AI, infected him, it caused an overflow and his parameters that made him evil went back to 0 thus making him controllable.

And after they vanished the question behind what is human and what is reploid faded with them.

Oreally Funny even though X is stronger than Zero. Zero even says X is the superior Hunter.

The defining feature of X is his limitless potential (hence the name "X", variable with no boundaries), whereas Zero is simply skilled beyond comparison. If memory serves, the more skilled hunters get assigned lower numbered platoons, X heading 17th and Zero leading the 0 platoon. X can grow to be as strong as his opponents but Zero is always in control of his situations. Only times he's been defeated is when he gets hit with cheap shots or blows himself up.
X is a variable with no boundaries that means X can be 0 or greater than 0. X was the one who ended the Maverick Wars with the Mother Elf and founded Neo Arcadia ruling as leader for over 100 years while Zero was sleeping. Hell X was so powerful at this point that when he sealed the Dark Elf with his body his DNA split into 4 beings which later became the 4 Guardians.
Zero is also named 0, because anything multiplied or divided by 0, is 0.

Two reploids made by their creators for one purpose, to destroy each other.
This is an absolutely fantastic remix, Falkkone. If there is a mistake in the song, I can't hear it at all.
I read "made by their creators" and instantly zoned out
I know I'm 5 years to late but, X was never created by Dr. Light to destroy Zero. Instead, he was made to bridge the gap between robots and humans and bring a utopian world. Of course, his potential was scary if he ever decided to fight against humanity, that is why he was locked for 30 years of incessant testing to confirm his reliability (aka, his personality) to ensure he would be safe to unleash. Zero on the other hand, was made to destroy X.
So in a sense, we have two reploids, one made to bring peace and unity to the world, and one made to murder the reploid who would become his best friend.
Now that my nerdy rant is out of the way, I bid thee farewell and ask you to excuse me for bothering you out of nowhere on a 5 year old post. Adieu.

This cover art makes me wonder what a Megaman anime made in the same vein that Ninja Scroll/Claymore/Akira etc would be like. Imagine something that does the Megaman legacy justice while at the same time highlighting the hyper-violence that is a result of waging war via futuristic war machines, while also asking questions about the morality of creating life through AI whose sole purpose is to fight, suffer and die so that we don't have to. It can die because *someone* just doesn’t feel like making new games
It's not always the company (which I won't have the indecency to even type down) that 'revives' the game though.
Sometimes it's the fans themselves that step in and make their own stuff, such as fan projects like Corruption, Isolation, Maverick's Fury, etc... And make the franchise get back up. Look at what happened with Metroid and am2r, it was taken down, yes, but it practically unburied the franchise before it even died, of course samus returns came out months later, but it really gave the fanbase a light of hope and the will to not leave the community, it's the effort that counts.
