Yeah. My family has been "Baja People" for generations, so between my grandfather, father and brother I've seen several camping trailers and truck campers disintegrate on washboard. Really nice use of space... I hate campers with all the transforming bed/ table/ desks... cool engineering but impractical.... you can tell you put a lot of thought into ease of usability. Set up and break down time look extremely quick. Good job!
Thanks. Yeah, setup/breakdown time was a pretty high priority in the design. My wife and I spent 1.5 years living in my last build while we traveled around central america, so I had lots of time to think about what I would do differently and where our priorities are

Nice build! You should mount the Gas springs the other way around, with the Piston rod pointing down. There is a little bit of oil inside the cylinder which helps with the longevity of the O-rings and seals inside the Gas spring.

You did an amazing job with your DIY camper. It is beautiful and looks very comfortable. I would have made the entry door a tad taller but I can see with the expandable roof it might not be possible. Would you want a low-roof camper? Is having the ability to stand more important to you? Have you considered a portable power station instead of your current power setup? I think you could have more battery capacity if you used a solar generator at a lower upfront cost.
Having the ability to stand is nice and I can sleep in the cabover too. If the camper didn't pop-up I wouldn't have enough room to sleep in the cabover or use the camper very effectively at all. I built a camper in the past that had a low roof but it was really just a bed and storage space. I did consider a solar generator. My current system is more efficient, has a lower upfront cost and can be serviced or modified as needed.
Combined gas mileage went from 19 with the stock truck empty to 15 with the loaded camper. I don't know how much of that change is from the poor aerodynamics and how much is the added weight. I'm not sure I notice much difference in handling from the height. She didn't exactly have impressive handling to begin with and I contribute the reduced handling primarily to the increased weight. It feels very similar to driving the same truck with the bed fully loaded.

It’s noticeable but not bad. It would probably be more annoying in a modern, quiet vehicle. But this old truck is already fairly loud anyway

What I like most this build were the diy composite panels and the top up roof.Love its simplicity! New subs'r from Philippines!🇵🇭❤️
That looks great. Horse blanket would make some nice apolstery for your seats. We used to get the horse blanket seat cover for the old bench seats.
