Educate the option traders with this basic knowledge. Index options traders has rights but not obligation (which means if your index options exercise during expiry you need to pay the premium due). But Stock options has both rights and obligation to shares.(which means if your options exercise during expiry you need to pay through security settlement). Always try to close the weekly/Monthly options before the expiry day of week or month. If someone who starts new always they have to educate themselves with SEBI basic guidelines.

A stock is a derivative of a bussiness and a option is a derivative of a stock.

Sir, Upstox sending notification a week before the expiry on the outstanding Options held. I had lost more than 2 Lakhs in different stock during 2021 while got into options trading. But after so many learning, i had recovered all the losses during Dec 2021 & Jan 2022.
You are correct sir. But what about index options. What will they do if we are not covering in expiry day.

This case has been very clearly explained our Mr P R sunder Sir "Under Unlimited risk for Option Buyer Part-2" We do not know when SEBI change rule but broker should bring to client's knowledge regularly. Like Zeroda other renowned broker informing before expiry. My broker Sharekhan one day before expiry sending reminder every half an hour during market hours. I feel this gentleman trading through bank platform and they does not bother about your loss.
Mr Sunder also explained when doing Option trading do Indices instead of doing scripts. Whatever profit or loss close your position one day before expiry.
We are retail people should be very careful.

Would be great if you could spend some time in explaining option trading from basics. Manytimes you say that we can convert the bought options to delivery if we are in loss. Please explain how to do that.

Thalaivarey one doubt... Let's say we sell our put option ITM within expiry.... Are we still obligated to settle in terms of shares or bare only the losses?
To simply ask: does the obligation to settle in terms of shares arises only when we close our position ITM or obligation arises when we don't exit our position i.e can't find buyer....?
If u squared off your position on or before expiry day.. then no obligation for physical settlement ..

If you close ur position (squaring off) before expiry.. no matter the price ends in ITM or OTM , no physical settlement obligation.. on the other hand if unable to square off position and the price ends in ITM (closing price or weighted average) .. then trouble - physical settlement

That settlement is wrong.. initially there were two option in the call options - square or exercise.. that excercise could be done anyday - when one is in the money.. but now that is shift to monthly settlement.. that is wrong..

Super boss..zerodha did this when I bought mothersumi..it showed before 2 days itself u need to pay this much money a nu.
2 lots 7000 I was in profit of 48000..when I called zerodha and asked it's showing minus in account 8lacs,they said it's physical settlement on 14th so u need to square off.
It's purely broker fault as u said.
