Cayde's Voice actor always was Nathan Fillion, but for this custscenes, they couldn't get him due to him working on other things, so they asked Nolan North to do Cayde's voice due to how good he is at imitating people's voices, and the fact that you hear him and immediately think it's Nathan Fillion speaks volumes to that fact. Edit: I see you looked it up. I commented too soon.
they switched to Nolan North at the last Minutes during when [Forsaken] was about to launch before said voice actor returned mostly back to his main Destiny franchise role, 'The Ghost' from then on. Eugh, Unfortunately bungo didn't keep Nathan F. for long. he has been Cayde-6 for 4-5 Years up till 2018....
Also the fact that North played Nathan Drake a voice I believe he based off of Fillion. And Fillion played Drake in a fan film around the time North took over for him in Destiny.
Cayde’s interaction with you is heavy. He helps you many times in both destiny 1 & 2 and so many people had become attached to Cayde. Tbh I was close to crying when he died though I did feel better when i killed that son of a female dog and even happier when I got cayde’s ace of spades which is the pistol you see him use and I to this day still consider it my favourite gun.
So context for Cayde: in the OG Destiny game, there were vanguard leaders for each of the 3 classes, and Cayde was the leader of the hunters. A huge criticism of the first game at launch was that there weren’t many memorable characters, so bungie made Cayde into a sarcastic, quippy rogue who is very laid back. For hunters, to be the vanguard leader sucks, as Hunters always prefer to be out in the wild fighting, and the vanguard comes with responsibility. So unlike the warlocks and Titans, the hunters have something called the vanguard dare: essentially, it is a bet that hunters don’t want to lose, as Cayde made a bet with his friend, the former hunter vanguard, and lost the bet when his friend died, and to honor the bet and his friend, took up the vanguard mantle. This is why he states that the vanguard is the best bet he ever lost. Another bit of context, Caydes gun is named the Ace of Spades, named after his son Ace, who he can’t really remember, as all guardians are brought to life as guardians with no knowledge of their previous life, but Cayde was able to piece some of it together. In the present day story of Destiny, no hunter has filled the role of hunter vanguard, not because they don’t want it (which they don’t) but because of how beloved Cayde was to them. In fact, for a long time, no hunter was seen at the tower for quite a while, as they all went into the wild to mourn Cayde. Caydes killer, Uldren, was killed by the player, but was revived as a guardian, thus having no memory of his life as uldren. He takes the name Crow, and whenever another guardian sees his face, they attempt to attack him or they insult him, causing him to always wear a mask. As of currently, the player has come to accept crow, recognizing that uldren is dead, and crow is an individual who wants to help. It also honors Cayde in a way, as Cayde was not the type of person to hold a grudge against people who committed crimes in their past lives
Shit so that’s what the weird dude in the H.E.L.M is lol. I never really knew what role he had there as almost everyone else I knew decently well bar crow.
@@TamageKell Yeah so crow, if you follow the story, has now more or less learned what he did in his past life and the main characters have learned who he is, however the vanguard accepts that Uldren and Crow are two completely different personalities, and Crow now works closely with the vanguard to ensure the cities survival
@@elcuheggies Dude Destiny has some of the best lore in any game I’ve played, like I straight up memorized the Felwinter ‘s Lie story just because of how goddamn incredible and unique it is
So in destiny, there are 3 races, humans, awakened (humans that evolved due to lore stuff) and exo (humans who stuffed their consciousness in robots, what cayde is) that the player can pick. Cayde, and all players and lots of the prominent characters in the story are guardians. Dead people who were chosen by the traveler. (Which is basically a giant moon that lets ppl have those powers) The traveler sends over a ghost (lil cute robot guy) who channels the travelers power (known as light) to revive the guardians and boost their power. In caydes last stand you could see his ghost get destroyed, which meant the ghost couldnt heal or revive cayde any more. (You see it happen after the crash.) As for who ace is. Ace is Caydes son from long ago, while he was human. The problem with exos is that as the consciousness is is transferred to a robot body, the body gets damaged over time and you gotta do it again. As that happens more and more memories get lost. So cayde remembers he had a son, but he has trouble remembering, he also remembers he had a wife. His revolver is named after his son, the ace of spades (which is also a reference to the card/song). The guy who killed cayde is being manipulated by a corrupted entity pulling him with an impersonation of his sister, who was a leader (queen of the reef) who died in destiny 1 during a big battle. (Also the sister wasnt an entirely good person, it was more of a antihero type faction.) EDIT yes the player character never talked up until now.
Just a small correction, Ace and "Queen" (his wife) was never real, it was an idea one of Cayde's past selves made up to keep himself going. Also, the player character has talked before but this is the first time in Destiny 2.
well, there is only One race. Humanity, but due to special means after the [Traveler] triggered our alternative version selves' Golden Age, Human Exos and Human Awoken came along several Centuries later. then the [Traveler] started in choosing some of the worthy within what is left of Humanity Centuries further, came the Lightbearer Guardians as you already remembered.
Handcannon by the way. and also, 'thanks' to someone named Clovis is why such a grim situation is happening to the majority of Human Exos, back then and still with the surviving ones who are not yet Risen.
I thought they spoke twice in Destiny 1, after the first meeting with the Exo Stranger they call the Ghost 'little light' to mess with him and after getting the Gate Lord's head they say 'ghost' and he drops the head
1) I highly recommend the channel My Name Is Byf if you want to follow the lore and story. 2) "It's like movie quality".... Because Bungie worked with a movie budget, 600 000 000 $$$$$$. The original Destiny was the most expensive game ever made when it came out and maybe still remains so.
@@HannaHsOverInvested I would definitely look into reacting to some of the lore videos for it to make sense more. Byf is definitely the way to go for this
For the the voice acting i feel as though its more how the character is Cayde is a funny, rouge, and in his own world kind of guy and both voice actors did it well in my opinion
On the how’s your sister line, his sister died in an event to save the solar system. Uldren, the guy who shot cayde, was fighting with her but ran away because he was over run. Uldren was locked away and now let out which really sucks because he can control the reef. Not a good thing.
Honestly having someone knowledgeable about some of these games universes with you would be really neat. I would suggest Discord if you ever decide to go forward with this idea.
forums spacebattles has that I know of one of the most spoken of Destiny Lore. mainly feats and capabilities that bungie (are too Hesitant in showing in-Game) not commonly show it easily outside of text descriptions. a bit complicated, but one can get their own around. then there are other Destiny Lore threads, ishtar collective, Destinypedia, etc. some Destiny Lore youtubers here but that's only just a Tip of the iceberg....
It's Caydes character that acts and talks the way he does. When his ghost was shot he can't come back to life after he is killed. The lines are Cayde. I think you just have the obsession with Nathan. You are still missing a lot for the campaign. Its ok HannaH, I still enjoy watching your video's
"How's your sister" is funny but it's funnier if you know why he said that. He said it because who shot Cayde, actually, had a sister and... died in a war. So when i heard that for the first time, I was like: ohhhh get rekt!!
One of the reasons this was so impactful to so many players is Cayde was with us for so long and we loved him. Another part is the Guardians (Cayde, the player, etc) are borderline Immortal. If we do die that little robot they shot would resurrect us, but only the one that chose us can resurrect us. The bad guys knew this and that's what their aim was.
@@HannaHsOverInvested cayde was a very important character in destiny 1 and 2 because his terrible jokes and interactions in many cut scenes allowed people to grow to love him, but now all that's left are a few small memorials and his pet chicken named cornel.
You'd love the world of destiny, the lore is so deep, rich, and filling. It doesn't focus on one thing, but focuses on goals of different factions, and races and their point of views
Sadly, still some of us can only go deeply up to this point while the rest complicatedly still can't seem to grasp long enough of that feeling that you are speaking of....
This series of clips has about 5 years of context and impact before it, so there is quite a bit of build up to this point. Here's a few points: - Uldren Sov -- the killer -- is brother to Mara Sov. - Mara Sov is queen of the Awoken -- the blue-tinged people of who Uldren and Zavala (the character at the end who's voiced by Lance Reddick). - Uldren and his sister were last seen about 3 years back during a large scale space fight known as the Battle of Saturn (effectively it's Normandy from WW2, but in space). Mara created the opening for the good guys to breach the Dreadnaught, a bad guy Hive ship, using all of her magical power and Uldren was part of the initial attackers. He was presumed dead during the attack and his sister hadn't been seen since. - Fast forward to now. Uldren, presumed dead, has actually been held in the Prison of Elders (an Awoken-run prison for the baddest of the bad, also where this whole video takes place). We (the player), didn't know he was alive. Apparently he's not only alive, but he's been imprisoned in the Awoken's prison -- and, as you saw, he made some friends in there! - Petra Venj (the Awoken lady with the eye patch), Cayde, and the warden were the only people that knew about this. Lots of extraneous details on that one, so I'll just skip that part. The only relevance is that they knew he was here. We (the player) did not. - Cayde-6 was the Hunter Vanguard. The Vanguard is a bunch of well-meaning guardians that are trying to protect humanity (which also encompasses the Awoken and Exos) from the many forces that want to destroy us. He earned the title by losing a bet. This bet was called the Vanguard Dare. That's the bet he mentioned. Zavala is the Titan Vanguard and Ikora (yup, that's Gina Torres in this video). - When Cayde-6 crashed on the bottom of the prison, you may have noticed a little robot appear and glow for a moment, followed by Cayde-6 digging himself out. That's Cayde-6's ghost. Guardians have ghosts, which can resurrect guardians after they die. This is an important meta mechanic in the game -- it explains why we can keep going after we die/lose. Notice how Cayde-6 was glowing for a moment? He died in that crash -- probably knew he would too. Death isn't an impediment for a guardian. - Well, death isn't an impediment for a guardian as long as their ghost lives. That's why the sniper took how the ghost and not Cayde. If Cayde went down, the ghost would revive him. Uldren wanted Cayde dead. Once the ghost was destroyed, the next death would be Cayde's last. - Nolan North, the VO actor for this final expansion, is a VO legend. Very talented. But it's hard to follow up such a personality as Nathan Fillion. I think he did his best to finish out the role, but Nathan's patter and cadence are truly unique. Nathan may not bring a lot of vocal range to his characters (they all sound like Nathan Fillion), but Nathan's talent is how he delivers those lines. And man, does he deliver. It was a bit jarring, but I think Nolan did a great job trying to bring Cayde-6 to life. If the character hadn't been as well established, he might have tried to make it his own. Nolan is the voice of Ghost, the floaty little robot that Peter Dinklage previously voiced. - Also, that quiet male voice in the suit? That's us (the player). We don't talk often in the game. It can be kind of weird, but it makes some business sense. There are 3 races we can play (awoken, human, and exo -- the robot types like Cayde-6) and there are 6 localized languages for the game. Considering each race can also be male or female, that means each line needs to be recorded 3 (number of races) x 2 (number of supported voice types -- "masculine" or "feminine") x 6 (number of languages recorded) = 36 times. They usually only give us about 2-4 lines per expansion. We're like Silent Bob. That's a bunch, but not all of the context of this video. If you have any more questions, let me know! Also, there's a ton of lore videos on UA-cam by a gent named "My Name is Byf". I seriously am addicted to Destiny lore, so I'm happy to help in any way I can. :)
the 'player' is called 'The Guardian' (well Gameplay RPG-wise, it is up to you (not you Jason or me) to role your way in and immerse yourself with 'The Guardian'and having your own name in to fit) within Destiny. or the 'Player-Guardian', or for some of us few we call 'Guardian-players' being us separate a bit from the in-verses Guardian-characters.
Wow! That was actually pretty damn accurate and very easy to read! As a Day1 guardian.. Even after all this time.. watching Cayde die still has me crying!! Especially cuz we just finished this 10 year journey with the new expansion, losing Lance IRL, it's just..So much.. Hearing my guardian speak again still gives me goosebumps because it REALLY drove home just how much we lost with Cayde. I won't spoil anything for anyone but damn... it was one hell of a ride and bungie really got their shit together for the last run. WE LOVE YOU CAYDE, You were ALWAYS our favorite 😢😢. RIP LANCE. We've got it from here commander... Eyes up Guardian ❤
If you want more context behind ALL of this and anything related to destiny, “My Name Is Byf” is the best destiny UA-cam who can break it all down for you
Forsaken dlc is like 5 seasons of build up, so yeah, the story wasn’t focused on catering to people who don’t know anything. Most gamers felt this scene was impactful as before now we never had a npc just die, and we never heard our player speak. Also, cayde’s jokes have always been forced because he masks his pain with comedy. As for choosing someone to speak with you, using Patreon or something similar would be smart since you can do something like choosing whoever has donated the most money in a month. Kinda like a bid.
@@HannaHsOverInvested Oh yeah, you wanted to change the channel to "Hannah's Not A Gamer" and start another Over Invested channel didn't you? Could you still do that...?
I think "just starting another channel" is probably a bit more involved than that, especially considering Hannah's: a) Already got two channels to keep track of, and b) Is also writing a novel. Like she's not busy enough!
I don't know how good a suggestion it is, but there was a pretty hyped game about (checks) *15 years ago* ?! Jeez I'm old. Anyway, it was called Hellgate London. The games intro cinematic told the story of what was happening and gave some context for the world. It's only fairly short, but I think you may enjoy it!
@@jamiearmstrong6456 Hey I thought it was... I don't wanna say 'good' 'cause it wasn't. Maybe 'fine?' Yeah. It was fine. I got about half way through as 3 different characters, then got bored and never played it again. Shame, too. The premise had such potential.
I think the jokes are supposed to come off as forced, Cayde saying jokes was his coping mechanism for stress. It's a part of his character to joke when things look insurmountable. So him making worse jokes the longer the fight went on, was supposed to symbolise his subconscious acceptance to death.
For me personally, I would not want someone with you while you watch these trailers. Or if you do, it be best to talk to them after watching the trailer. I personally enjoy your comments and questions that you randomly blurt out while watching. That's what makes it. But it might be beneficial, especially for a trailer/video like this one where having someone explain/answer questions after you've watched the video one time maybe? Just a thought, not sure. But I'd imagine using Discord would be best to accomplish this.
Ah. it is best to just let this suggestion for other potentials out there, yes. wondering that this continues only for not one small insight into this vast franchise....
17:05 for context. you the guardian has never spoke since his/her revival. he/she has slain gods. Imagine pissing off a godslayer so BAD that they break their 3 year vow of silence just to mark you as a foe
I love how genuinely confused you are😂. Our guardian (the character at the end) doesn’t speak. So on the off chance we do it has its own fair amount of weight behind it. Something broke out silence
Nolan North is one of the most prolific voice actors, he's most famous for voicing Nathan Drake from Uncharted, a character that Nathan Fillion played in that short film you've watched. Nolan is also the voice of Deadpool in practically anything other than the movies.
Nathan Fillion DESERVED THAT ROLE HANDS DOWN!! Thats why the short film was done. I'm still pissed about them passing him over like that! I think Nolan actually did a pretty good job because ive either blocked it out or completely forgot he voiced cayde for the cut scenes cuz Nathan was very busy. Just like with Keith David voicing Zavala in the last expansion because we lost Lance.. He has IMPOSSIBLE shoes to fill... but I think he did a good job❤
Context is definitely needed it comes to feeling to sheer impact that this had on the community. Players all around the world were raging and crying out BEGGING for revenge. Cayde always one the person who looked on the bright side even in dark situations. The dry humor was always a part of his character since day 1. Seeing him gone set the community in a raging storm
You could do a live première on UA-cam and we could all watch at the same time! You can pause every so often and ask us, your loyal following of eager to please nerds, for context or information! That may be fun ☺️
2:53 YES! Make it so we get all the story stuff for this franchise in order for once cause so far you've watched it out of order a lot. There are books btw on the bungie store filled with amazing stories and writing of the Destiny franchise.
10:56 because his Ghost (the little thing that gives him and other Guardians immortality) got destroyed by the sniper, so in that moment Cayde knew it was over because he was overpowered by all the Scorn.
@HannaHsOverInvested ik this is about 20 years late BUUUUUT, Discord will also work on your phone❤❤ that's how i use mine lol. You can video call ect. I loved your reaction btw lol. I kept saying " Oh girlll if you only KNEW " lol. Caydes death still effects me to this day. I was crying watching this lol. Idk if you kept going with Destiny or not( TOTALLY WORTH IT BTW!) But our 10 year journey recently came to an end.. We lost Lance Reddick in real life ( Big blue titan..he's the Homie) so him not being there at the end of our journey REALLY affected all of us. The lore for Destiny GOES DEEP lol. It's been 1 hell of a ride for us. If you haven't checked it out...i think you'd REALLY enjoy it lol.
8:17 ace is the name of his son, if you don't know, exo's (cayde is an exo) are people who used to be human, when someone become an exo they lose all their memories, but cayde actually had a notebook that had most of his memories on it (including his son) but he doesn't know how his son looks nor does ace know how cayde looks, so his son is probably dead.
Couple of things: a) yes that is Gina Torres b) for a better and more impactful edit out of context watch the Destiny 2: Forsaken Launch Trailer. It cuts all the lines that need context and focuses on getting people on board with the story. c) the "speechless" character is the player character. They used to talk back in Destiny 1 and then fell silent because Bungie (the developer) couldn't book the voice actor anymore. The whole "He's mine" part is the first time your player character spoke in 2,5 years.
yes do sit downs, especially with Lore heavy games like Destiny, Warhammer 40k, or the Witcher you could start a discord server, if im right you can do raffles on there as well as screenshare
The person who spoke and said "Uldren Sov is mine" is our character who has remained in a vow of silence for 7 entire years. and the death of one of his closest friends cause him to speak.
There’s not a lot of context in the games to begin with by the way, so don’t kick yourself. They give you just enough story so you know where you’re aiming your gun but never enough to really get invested in anything. Also, totally Gina Torres.
Perhaps you could stream the reaction first on Twitch or here on youtube first? That way you'd have the chat to ask questions about whatever, then upload the vod to this channel.
back again asking for Hale ce trailer reaction and Halo 2 anniversary trailer reaction, and more Halo reaction if you like them ofcourse, Halo CE trailer so you can see how it looked first and Halo 2 anniversary trailer cause I really like it XD
In the Destiny universe our character is a Guardian, which are people who were brought back to life by something called the traveler to wield the light as a weapon (which is also what Cayde-6 is) the little drone (which are called ghosts) is what keeps Guardians connected to the light. So anytime a Guardian dies they can be brought back to life unless their light is drained or their ghost is destroyed. Also the “im coming home, Ace” line was referring to Cayde’s son
Asking for an explanation on things going on for the sake of context is a lengthy challenge all in itself. By the time Forsaken came out, all the characters had been established through Destiny 1, had their own stories, their history, their lore. To sum it all up up to this point is a daunting task.
The character at the end is the player (the person playing the game). In Destiny, the player almost never speaks (especially in Destiny 2, where our character is almost completely mute), which is why the character speaking here is considered significant. The primary (real life) reason we're mute is because the story is a series of expansions, and the developers (bungie) don't want to keep calling back voice actors for every expansion (too expensive and impractical). Instead of calling back a handful of voice actors, we just have a single voice speak for us, our ghost (the floating stellated-shaped robot). In Destiny 1, we weren't completely mute, but this is likely when they realized juggling voice actors between expansions was an issue, so they completely committed to muting player characters for the 2nd game (with minimal exceptions).
Also, this little series has been pretty amazing. I love seeing non-gamer reactions and stuff. It's always amazing to see somebody else's perspective on it. Sometimes lack of context can make for some really interesting content. Gained a sub from me lol
Having a Zoom meeting or any kind of face time chat, thing, with a fan of the franchise would be a fun thing to do. How you go about picking the person for the video would be the challenge. I'd be nice to have a new fan each time for a different franchise, but having a "designated fan" would probably be safer. Either way, that's up to you. I have absolutely no knowledge of Destiny so I have just as many questions as you. But any questions you have regarding Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Halo, Apex Legends/Titanfall, Overwatch, Team Fortress 2, Elder Scrolls or Half-Life, I can certainly chime in. Great video by the way! I thought it was amusing that you were watching an ad for Starfield and as soon as you skipped the rest I had to watch the exact same ad on my end. Trippy.
Your bang on with 17:15 So from destiny 1 to 2 our main character never spoke and it was a common complaint in cutscenes like these. There is a lot of backstory missed that would make this cinematic make SO MUCH more sense. But Uldren sov (the guy who shot cayde) is the brother of the dead queen Mara Sov who was trying to create peace but sacrificed herself to save the reef (the pile of rocks zavala mentions) at the end of the first game taking place with the expansion The Taken King. Uldren was locked up shortly after that by petra (the woman with the eyepatch at the start) as she thought he was insane and a danger to the reef as he thought he could still hear and see visons of his sister and tried desperately to find a way to contact or find her. whilst locked up He planned the escape taking the barons (the 8 'Fallen') and became known as the crow. his pretty much the douchebag in the game and has good intent but goes about it all maliciously. - As for the addiction to Nathan i actually prefered the new cayde narrator i think there was a mix of trying to fill the shoes nathan had left as he created such a loveable sarcastic robot but also the scripting
Basically heres a little context, cayde and the guardian were trying to stop a prison riot on the outer rim, this takes place in space, uldren, yhe guy that shot cayde, started the riot, freed the barons and caused a lot of stuff. We track down uldten and kill his barons one by one.
Some context: In this cutscene Cayde was responding to a distress call about a riot at a super space prison called the Prison of Elders, where they store a ton of super big baddie space aliens, As you saw/looked up, for this scene they got Nolan North instead of Nathan due to scheduling issues, but the quips and jokes are very much part of Cayde's character. For many of the players (mainly us Hunters as he was there since the beginning) it was heart wrenching to lose Cayde, to be honest i still cry. The player character NEVER talks, and its become a joke that when they DO actually talk - shits about to go down big time. Discord: you could do a random drawing to screen share and chat with someone (or maybe just one of your mods or gamer friends) that can give you some context or answer questions during one of your reactions :) OR as some others have stated you could live stream the reaction and talk to the chat.
the reason why cayde said speechless typical was because in destiny 2 your character doesn't talk into the forsaken dlc when cayde died giving your character a reason to talk or in other word bungie couldn't afford voice actors for the characters.but in the lore you character loses his/her voice but after having cayde die the character regains its voice back.also when cayde looked at his gun a said im coming home ace well he named his gun after his son that died in his past life as a human before he became a guardian he knew he had a son because he got resurrected with a journal called to ace after reading the journal he found out he had a son and continued writing to ace in his journal to oneday give to his son.
Quick recap : there was a big war 3 years ago (5 from today, 3 back then) in witch the guy shooting Cayde fought as a soldier, he was still good back then. His sister, the Queen of the Reef (just take her as a bug power) died in it, hence the joke "How's your sister?", he didn't, but he got corrupted. Back on Earth, Cayde, together with Zavala and Ikora, are the Vanguard, they "protect the planet" even though we do all the work. We, with Cayde got called to the Prison of Elders, the place if the action, then you've already seen what happened. We all were good friends with Cayde, that's why his death shocked us pretty bad. But yeah, this is the important lore behind this masterpiece from the eyes of a player
The gun that Cayde had, the Ace of Spades, was named after his son, Ace, so when he says that he's coming home, he knows he is going to die, since his son is also dead.
On the subject of that trailer from earlier. There are several kinds: Teaser/Announcement - Acknowledging that it exists, the former being much shorter. Gameplay - Showcasing how the game functions. Story - Plot preamble or a recap. Launch - An all rounder that shows the game in its complete state DLC/Expansion - Extra content, whether it is story based, equipment, or entirely new features. I hope this helps! :D Edit: That character who never talks is the player. Most games where you don't play as a premade character tends to be a blank slate for you to control.
context: Guardians are humanoid warriors with cosmic powers who fight to reclaim the solar system from aliens. Cayde-6, the robot guy with the jokes, was one of the leaders of the Guardians. his death is impactful because he's been with us since the beginning of the first game, which came out 7 years ago. so he's been around for a while. Cayde went on the mission with the Player character and another person named Petra to deal with a massive alien prison riot. but while in the middle of it, Petra discovers that certain high priority prisoners have been released. thats how she concludes that the prison riot is actually a prison break. so Cayde goes all the way down to take care of the problem himself. now, the thing about Guardians is that they have small machine-like entities called "Ghosts" that can heal and even resurrect them from death. as you saw, Cayde's Ghost was killed by an alien sniper. the leader of that group of inmates, the one who killed Cayde, his name is Uldren Sov, with whom the Guardians have some history with. and yes, that was Gina Torres. she was a voice actor for the character Ikora. but recently, the character has been recast. and actually, Destiny has a history of recasting for characters.
A lot of the context of this scene is missing on purpose; it's during the story where we find out how/why Uldren Sov (guy who killed Cayde) is in prison and who tho monsters Cayde killed are. Before this, the last info we had on Uldren stated he was in the system becoming the leader of a bunch of Fallen (race of space pirates) and this is our introduction to the Scorn, the monsters.
I definitely prefer when you start to get it. That's why i like your warcraft videos the most. I think it's great when you recognize the characters or start making connections about what's going on and it was nice seeing how much you learned about the lore. It feels like sharing a hobby with someone that is really getting into it. Also, I like the idea of watching a video with someone from your audience. You should be able to do it with your Discord pretty easily I think.
Caydes whole character is that he’s basically a terrible joke machine, so to say ‘he’s forcing it’ is completely in his character. The robot that says ‘he’s mine’ was impactful because he’s the player’s character and had taken a vow of silence before that line. They guy voicing Cayde is a very well known voice actor called Nolan North, he voiced Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series, a character many people think Nathan Fillion would be a good choice for because they look and sound similar
Our guardian rarely talks in destiny 2. So when he spoke about wanting revenge, it gave an impact that our guardian is really serious in taking down uldren. Also gina torres voices ikora the bald girl. Zavala is voiced by lance riddick.
Interesting detail, during the scene where cayde passes like the "how's my hair. Speechless, typical" and the little ghost machine appears, that's Nolan North talking to Nolan North
The lore around some guardians is really heart breaking like Zavala had a wife who died to old age while him being a guardian which is a functional immortal had to watch.
Cayde narrated most missions and scenes so player attachment was pretty high so the scene was impactful. This shot all these scenes telling nathan fillion nothing at the time. He was fired and replaced without being told.
Ace is Cayde-6 son that he do not remember because all exos(the cyborgs) loose their memories of before in the process of conversion. He still writes letters to him despite only being a faint memory of a distant human life.
Ace is his son who died decades ago if not centuries, as for that machine with the eye it's called a ghost, A guardian can always be brought back to life so long as their ghost lives but if their ghost dies they're on their last life.
Also, I was very impressed at how smart you were with how you picked up on things despite not knowing much about the context. Yes, the speechless line was an inside joke almost; with how your character doesn’t really say much throughout most of the games aha.
When Cade refers to Ace, its his son. Cade was human, but due to injuries the only way to save him was to put in into a exoskeleton body. His son Passed away from old age long ago.
15:29 That is indeed Gina Torres. However, in the most recent game season she has been replaced by Mara Junot due to... well, no officially stated reason I can find as of the moment. One guess I've seen is that since Destiny was originally published by Activision, at that time they had a bigger budget to hire actors to do voices, and that since it's become self-published by Bungie they can't get as many of the more prominent names to return.
so basically the guy is the player and you usually dont talk, and that line eventually comes true because the whole point of the story is your character hunting down the killers and finishing off the one who shot cayde, all the while discovering the secrets of the reef, including putting the last member of a wish granting dragons species to rest this eventually leads to the final curse made by the new villain in the next upcoming story, the witch queen, savathun and the darkness
Nathan Fillion was the original voice actor, but for Forsaken they had to get Nolan North to do a Nathan Fillion impression due to scheduling. Having said that he does a very good impression. And this is very in line with Cayde-6's character. I've been involved in the franchise for years, and Cayde-6's death hit me on a deep level, I was angry for so long from this. They manipulated me into feeling this. And yes, our characters almost never talk. It was the first time our character talked in 3 years. The writing is dead on once you know the characters.

I commented too soon.
hahaha yea, I knew right away. But I have watched firefly many.... many many times.
they switched to Nolan North at the last Minutes during when [Forsaken] was about to launch before said voice actor returned mostly back to his main Destiny franchise role, 'The Ghost' from then on.
Eugh, Unfortunately bungo didn't keep Nathan F. for long. he has been Cayde-6 for 4-5 Years up till 2018....
@@HannaHsOverInvested have you watched serenity also ?
Also the fact that North played Nathan Drake a voice I believe he based off of Fillion. And Fillion played Drake in a fan film around the time North took over for him in Destiny.
Cayde’s interaction with you is heavy. He helps you many times in both destiny 1 & 2 and so many people had become attached to Cayde. Tbh I was close to crying when he died though I did feel better when i killed that son of a female dog and even happier when I got cayde’s ace of spades which is the pistol you see him use and I to this day still consider it my favourite gun.
“We’re those jokes and writing forced?”
Honestly that’s just Cayde-6. Like Ikora said, “his jokes were terrible.”
It was part of his charm
Also dying, so jokes might not flow so good. That's how i read it anyways
That "was I good" death meme: no, your jokes where the best, Cayde.
That mf got me tear up at that time.
I never really knew what role he had there as almost everyone else I knew decently well bar crow.
wonderful explanation lol
The fact I read all this
@@TamageKell Yeah so crow, if you follow the story, has now more or less learned what he did in his past life and the main characters have learned who he is, however the vanguard accepts that Uldren and Crow are two completely different personalities, and Crow now works closely with the vanguard to ensure the cities survival

(You see it happen after the crash.)
As for who ace is.
(Also the sister wasnt an entirely good person, it was more of a antihero type faction.)
EDIT yes the player character never talked up until now.
Just a small correction, Ace and "Queen" (his wife) was never real, it was an idea one of Cayde's past selves made up to keep himself going. Also, the player character has talked before but this is the first time in Destiny 2.

Destiny is tricky because a lot if context is given during gameplay.
Ace was his son.
There's a bit that was left out but you could access the site and read the lore on some of the past expansion.
His possibly made up son.
Like in 'a Serbian film' ?
Fake son
It was either his son or the hunter leader before him not sure
Oh man... as a hardcore Destiny fan (since 2014) This is easily the most emotional scene in the game... Don't mind me if i tear up at all
I wish I felt that too!!
For the the voice acting i feel as though its more how the character is Cayde is a funny, rouge, and in his own world kind of guy and both voice actors did it well in my opinion
Agreed
On the how’s your sister line, his sister died in an event to save the solar system. Uldren, the guy who shot cayde, was fighting with her but ran away because he was over run. Uldren was locked away and now let out which really sucks because he can control the reef. Not a good thing.
She Didn’t died

Here's a few points:
- Uldren Sov -- the killer -- is brother to Mara Sov.

Nathan Fillion didn’t return to voice cayde in this expansion
bummer.
Couple of things:
a) yes that is Gina Torres
b) for a better and more impactful edit out of context watch the Destiny 2: Forsaken Launch Trailer. It cuts all the lines that need context and focuses on getting people on board with the story.
c) the "speechless" character is the player character. They used to talk back in Destiny 1 and then fell silent because Bungie (the developer) couldn't book the voice actor anymore. The whole "He's mine" part is the first time your player character spoke in 2,5 years.
yes do sit downs, especially with Lore heavy games like Destiny, Warhammer 40k, or the Witcher
you could start a discord server, if im right you can do raffles on there as well as screenshare

Please react to call of duty ww2
noted! Thanks!

- As for the addiction to Nathan i actually prefered the new cayde narrator i think there was a mix of trying to fill the shoes nathan had left as he created such a loveable sarcastic robot but also the scripting
i will say honestly " my name is byf " is the perfect youtuber to understand everything behind destiny with its lore.
Basically heres a little context, cayde and the guardian were trying to stop a prison riot on the outer rim, this takes place in space, uldren, yhe guy that shot cayde, started the riot, freed the barons and caused a lot of stuff. We track down uldten and kill his barons one by one.
Some context: In this cutscene Cayde was responding to a distress call about a riot at a super space prison called the Prison of Elders, where they store a ton of super big baddie space aliens,
As you saw/looked up, for this scene they got Nolan North instead of Nathan due to scheduling issues, but the quips and jokes are very much part of Cayde's character.
The reason it was so impactful when the guardian spoke is because he/she barely talked to begin with
the reason why cayde said speechless typical was because in destiny 2 your character doesn't talk into the forsaken dlc when cayde died giving your character a reason to talk or in other word bungie couldn't afford voice actors for the characters.but in the lore you character loses his/her voice but after having cayde die the character regains its voice back.also when cayde looked at his gun a said im coming home ace well he named his gun after his son that died in his past life as a human before he became a guardian he knew he had a son because he got resurrected with a journal called to ace after reading the journal he found out he had a son and continued writing to ace in his journal to oneday give to his son.
& "this guy" who said "uldren sov is mine" is our character😂
12:56 YOUR FACE LMFAO I'M DIYNG OH GOD. Cayde-6 is amazing, he is definitely is more the character than the VA.
The gun that Cayde had, the Ace of Spades, was named after his son, Ace, so when he says that he's coming home, he knows he is going to die, since his son is also dead.
On the subject of that trailer from earlier. There are several kinds:
Teaser/Announcement - Acknowledging that it exists, the former being much shorter.
Gameplay - Showcasing how the game functions.
Story - Plot preamble or a recap.
Launch - An all rounder that shows the game in its complete state
DLC/Expansion - Extra content, whether it is story based, equipment, or entirely new features.
I hope this helps! :D
Edit: That character who never talks is the player. Most games where you don't play as a premade character tends to be a blank slate for you to control.
context:
Guardians are humanoid warriors with cosmic powers who fight to reclaim the solar system from aliens. Cayde-6, the robot guy with the jokes, was one of the leaders of the Guardians. his death is impactful because he's been with us since the beginning of the first game, which came out 7 years ago. so he's been around for a while.
Cayde went on the mission with the Player character and another person named Petra to deal with a massive alien prison riot. but while in the middle of it, Petra discovers that certain high priority prisoners have been released. thats how she concludes that the prison riot is actually a prison break. so Cayde goes all the way down to take care of the problem himself.
now, the thing about Guardians is that they have small machine-like entities called "Ghosts" that can heal and even resurrect them from death. as you saw, Cayde's Ghost was killed by an alien sniper. the leader of that group of inmates, the one who killed Cayde, his name is Uldren Sov, with whom the Guardians have some history with.
and yes, that was Gina Torres. she was a voice actor for the character Ikora. but recently, the character has been recast. and actually, Destiny has a history of recasting for characters.
the “how’s my hair” line is def something the character would say, but I can understand how it feels forced
Everytime I see his death I always get teary eyed. I think it's just your obsession with Nathan lmao
Cayde-6 had 2 voice actors
This is heartbreaking every time. Glad you enjoyed it. I just finished Magic Required...good read.
Cayde is a verry sarcastic character and making jokes about everything, so it's kinda him.
His *fake* son
@@johnhalo8726 didn't know that part, thanks.
@@unlikelyspore1406 not exactly much.
"that trailer didn't tell me anything" yeah now you're getting it
The robot guy when they were talking about cayde hasn't spoken in a couple years as he's kin of notorious for not speaking at all
15:29 That is indeed Gina Torres. However, in the most recent game season she has been replaced by Mara Junot due to... well, no officially stated reason I can find as of the moment. One guess I've seen is that since Destiny was originally published by Activision, at that time they had a bigger budget to hire actors to do voices, and that since it's become self-published by Bungie they can't get as many of the more prominent names to return.
so basically the guy is the player and you usually dont talk, and that line eventually comes true because the whole point of the story is your character hunting down the killers and finishing off the one who shot cayde, all the while discovering the secrets of the reef, including putting the last member of a wish granting dragons species to rest
this eventually leads to the final curse made by the new villain in the next upcoming story, the witch queen, savathun and the darkness
