They don’t have much to do in the book, aside from the major plot points. Book Renata is pretty insufferable (and is described nothing like Laura Dern) and book Bonnie exists merely to piss of Madeleine and drive a wedge between her and Abigail (and of course the climax).

whilst i'm all for giving someone like the husband an absolute dose of karma the usage of actual classic model trains here instead of using fake lookalikes kills me inside as a hobbyist model railroader, not condoning the actions of the husband at all, adultery and reacting so selfishly to the issues in the story are both horribly wrong, but the production team really didn't have to destroy actual classic models and could've easily gotten a few very cheap bachmann or whatever train models off the modern market.
