I still think the 1979 Enterprise is the best starship design in movie history (including the Millennium Falcon). Robert Abel & Associates were responsible for the warp nacelle re-design.
In the original Director's Edition commentary track, Robert Wise said this scene was essentially the Enterprise allowing the mission to proceed because Spock was now aboard, indicating that as a character, it refused to go any further until its family was all together again. This has always been an oddly emotional scene since hearing him say that because it makes perfect sense metaphysically.
TMP is very metaphysical all way through. Even that part when Kirk and Scotty approach the Enterprise in the shuttlecraft until finally joining with her, it's like making love with a woman. The Enterprise was often called the most important woman in Kirk's life.
It's also the only other movie in the TOS series to feature the entire crew on the Enterprise. Star Trek V was the other. Every other movie is either missing someone or not on the Enterprise.
I would just like to say if Paramount pictures does not want to spend the time to spiff up all the Star Trek original series movies on their own dime then maybe hire some fans that like to do stuff like this person did!
The old-school warp affect it’s one of my favourite warp affect shots ever so this was great also I love the fact that the enterprise has a throttle on the helm I think all the ships should’ve had that.
Imagine if ships like the Enterprise d the defiant and Voyager had had a Hotas (that's a hands on throttle and stick for those of you who don't speak in acronyms) and rudder pedals for steering with! I mean the Enterprise E had a manual steering column which in this case was a joystick and the USS Franklin from Star Trek beyond had a couple of joysticks so why didn't all of them have a hotas and pedals?
TMP and TWOK had the best warp effect ever...!! This tribute is not only screen accurate but also amazingly beautiful and fitting Goodbye for Mr. Trumbull... May he always be remembered. 🖖😔
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This scene really captures the essence that warp speed was still a monumental feat of engineering and not a convenience. Excellent effects! 😀👍❤
RIP mr Turnbull. Thanks for all you work on star trek. Beautiful recreation. One of the best scenes in the motion picture. The enterprise, ready for action. Still remember seeing that movie in the theater back in 79.👍😎⭐⭐⭐⭐
Well done! I prefer the original sound effects from the theatrical version when she jumps in to ward and that warp seven jump with the "VRRRRRRRRRRRREOWWWW!" but that's neither here nor there. Your visual work here is ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD.
Funny thing, they've approached the visual of a warp jump in so many ways in the years since TMP, and yet none of them have ever hit quite the same way, or been quite as cool. The TMP warp jump makes me smile like a kid every time.
I may be in the minority, but Star Trek: The Motion Picture is still my all-time favorite Star Trek movie ever done! Incredible FX, great story (by Alan Dean Foster), well acted, even Kirk, and the musical score is top notch! Absolutely LOVE this movie!
Imagine seeing that on the big screen back in 1979 - it must've been wonderful! The Enterprise was back, the crew were together, and off they went into the unknown to confront the danger once more. That ship, especially the stunning Refit version of it, is one of the most timeless science fiction spacecraft designs. Perhaps 2001's Discovery and the Imperial-Class Star Destroyer are up there too. (Oh, and the fastest hunk of junk in the Galaxy. Can't miss the Falcon out!)
Dude I always love how screen accurate you make these animations, I can't help but smile as soon as I see the Enterprise on screen and the final flyby on this video with the soundtrack just makes my smile bigger!
Well, I think Admiral Kirk agrees with your video @ 1:33 and so do I!! Absolutely fantastic work. Besides the warp jump the sound of the engines accelerating to Warp 7 has always been a favorite of mine. Good job!
Just wanted to say been noticing some hate coming your way from community veterans. Even if you are not aware of it! Keep doing what you’ve been doing. Your quality and creativity is 2nd to none! Looking forward to all your work in 2022!

I know my work won't set the world on fire, but I don't think I am that bad. It takes incredible amount of time and effort to create these videos and I respect everyone's interpretations no matter what level they are at.
@@JTVFX1 dude your stuff is not even on the spectrum of "bad" like I said on my other comment, and I can probably speak for most others, I can't help but smile when I see your animations. The movie accuracy is staggering!
@@0013bluejay I'm tend to be overly modest, but no I don't think my work is bad at all. I don't know if you are aware but I only have a year of experience with animation under my belt. No schooling, self taught with the occasional help video here and there. Frankly if I am attracting the ire of the veterans here I must be good. I will consider it a badge of honor. :)
I loved this scene in the original, and now, it feels in your gut like she's gathering all her power and then leaping beyond the speed of light with all the grace of a thoroughbred racehorse. Dang, it almost puts me in tears.
"Captain's log, stardate 7413.4. Thanks to Mr. Spock's timely arrival, and assistance, we have the engines rebalanced into full warp capacity. Repair time less than 3 hours. Which means we will now be able to intercept intruder while still more than a day from Earth."
Despite its weak story The way the motion picture visualized the ship, the uniforms and the general environment always seemed a lot more believable than the movies that followed.
It’s fascinating how the warp and impulse drive technologies changed from the early intermix design to the collider design developed in the Excelsior Class, for the failed transwarp drive project, and improved upon in the Ambassador, Galaxy, and Sovereign Classes for more efficient standard warp. Also, in ST: TMP, impulse cruise was around 0.5C, and the gradual acceleration up through the higher sublight speeds 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 until crossing the subspace barrier into warp, got replaced with placing full impulse power at no more than 0.25C, and used fast jumps into warp so as to not stay in the high velocities longer than an instant. The high sublight velocities were reserved solely for emergency situations.
This actually had me fooled far longer than it should have lol. I thought you just cleaned up existing Enterprise footage but then i realized "Holy shit this is digital?"
RIP to the Legend Douglas Trumbull and to the magic he brought to the screen. I do have to nitpick something that Trumbull said on his work on TMP. If the Enterprise is on Impulse, the Deflector Dish is that red/orange color. It’s only suppose to be blue if you’re going to Warp or are at Warp. ILM never bothered with this, but as you said, this was a tribute to Mr. Trumbull. If you have the time, another great tribute scene would be watch V’Ger break up to expose the Enterprise over Earth. A nice scene you could paste into your other Enterprise Warp Out.
I'm fine with the light being permanently blue. It just looks better than the amber light. So I don't mind that the amber was ditched 1/3 of the way into *Wrath of Khan.* Cool, soothing colors suit this Enterprise design more.
Chekov’s reaction is all of us right now. Damn, that was beautiful and I love the added warp core pulsing. Yes!!!! I really wish this was the updated effects for the remastering they are working on. Help us @JTVFX, you’re our only hope! 😆
If asked, I would swear that is not a GCI recreation, but a piece of original movie in HD. Astonishing job. Thank you, Jason. Greetings from trekkie from Poland
Amazing work. I couldn't tell if it was model work or CG. It was that good!! And the effect when the Enterprise goes to warp still gives me chills. Nicely done 👍
In the 2022 edition this scene is one of my favorites. Although not heard here the new sound effects as the engines are climbing to warp 7 are great! Starting with Sulu counting up at warp point 8. The engine room is darker than shown. Also, Sulu's voice is echoing when the camera flashed to the engine room in that edition.
would you and could you do this warp effect with the other ships?... actually more curious how Voyager would warp with this kind of Effect, would the Pylons slowly rise up the faster the ship speeds up? or would it be like when it moves into warp the Pylons move up to when it breaks the Light barrier?
Voyager's nacelles only have the two positions, flat and pivoted, so they'd rise up, just before the effect, and stay in the same position, no matter how fast she was going. That said, Voyager with this effect would be mind blowing.
Anyone catch the crew member walking in the lounge behind the bridge? ;)
Nope. I've replayed this masterpiece 7 times, now. Haha.
Hello, JT. Barely. Oh, and ViacomCBS is now Paramount Global.
On mobile, no. On PC, nooooow I see him! TNG Intro is jealous! 🤣
Barely. There is a better example to be seen in this in this remastered STII:TWOK video of yours here: ua-cam.com/video/GqStLV8w3hs/v-deo.html
ye
The ship design of the refit enterprise is still as stunning today as it was back in 1979.
It's my favourite version of the enterprise.
Best Enterprise and also the best warp drive engagement.
The only class of ship I'd ever want to command! Ok. Maybe an Excelsior or Ambassador as well.
I still think the 1979 Enterprise is the best starship design in movie history (including the Millennium Falcon). Robert Abel & Associates were responsible for the warp nacelle re-design.
Slim, sleek and elegant. As opposed to JJA's fat and indulgent.
This will always be the best version of the Enterprise to me.
The sound effects as the engines accelerate so perfectly convey the Enterprise finding its legs.

tmp's warp effect never ceases to wow me. shame they never reused it.
I prefer the ones used towards the end of TWOK & Undiscovered Country.
@@rossco010 the sorta swoosh ILM stuck with does have its charm i will admit
The ILM Warp flash is far easier and cheaper to accomplish. To give them credit, ILM had a budget to control while Trumbull was told, “Get it done.”
@@danielhenderson8316 Oh yeah its quite understandable

TWOK still had some elements of this warp effect which was cool. After that ILM just switched to the cheaper flash out version you see in 3, 4, and 6.
@@alucard624 I totally agree. The warp version from ST3 on is completely dull...!!
I wish they'd bring it back, where we could move around the ship at the same time. I hate the stretch n snap warp.
Love the little wink Shatner give to the audience.
The most beautiful of the Starships Enterprise.
It's weird how much I'm looking forward to the director's cut of a film I don't love. But I'm kinda stoked.
It'll be great to see the director's cut in much better quality finally after all this time.
And this time the film AND the additions are getting a restoration. From what they've shown off, the film stills look better than they did in 1979.
