- Années de Pèlerinage - French for Years of Pilgrimage is a set of three suites for solo piano by Franz Liszt and is widely considered the masterwork and summation of his musical style. I fell in love with this piece thanks to my friend Robert McDonald and from the first time I listened to it, I knew that I had to play it myself. In addition, this piece became my research topic for my master's thesis as well, so I was happily more involved with it :) Liszt was a very religious man and for him F# major was the key of divine music and he comes back to his tonal cycle back on Années de Pèlerinage. Over the music, Liszt placed the inscription, "Sed aqua quam ego dabo ei, fiet in eo fons aquae salientis in vitam aeternam" ("But the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life," from the Gospel of John). I like Claudio Arrau's interpretation the most for this piece.

Thanks to Selçuk Ener, Robert McDonald, and Deniz Bayhan for listening to my playings many times and for their insights in interpreting some parts as well as their technical approaches. Many thanks to Emre Tenker for recording and sound engineering - we did record this piece in the studio too, but I wanted to share the version from the concert because it felt much more like me :)
