Musical theater star Ben Platt performs "Nights on Broadway" in tribute to 2023 Honoree Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees.
The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual honor given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is proud to celebrate the 46th Honorees for lifetime artistic achievements: actor and comedian Billy Crystal; acclaimed soprano Renée Fleming; British singer-songwriter producer, and member of the Bee Gees, Barry Gibb; rapper, singer, and actress Queen Latifah; and singer Dionne Warwick.
The event took place Sunday, December 3rd, 2023, in the Kennedy Center Opera House; premiered Wednesday, December 27 at 8pm ET on CBS; and will be available for viewing for a limited time on Paramount+.

Far and away one of the best performances of the evening. Congrats to Ben Platt who sung this wonderful song exceptionally! I love the song and I loved his version. Why the audience wasn't standing I'm baffled. I wish he could have sung the entire version. He deserved a standing ovation! Ben you rock!

Great performance by Ben although it seemed short, wish he had sung the second chorus because he was doing an awesome job! Barry Gibb appreciated his performance.

I love that so many people were groovin' and dancing in their seats 48 years after the song's release, as if it was new. The Bee Gees should not have lost their audience by the end of disco. They were so much more than disco.
I agree I felt I was 11 watching the BeeGees on Midnight Special. One of my favorite songs. Yes after Disco the brothers could of done so much. Ben Platt you did great.
They were but those who hated disco saw them as the face of disco and made their lives a living hell. The documentary The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart outlines what happened. It's sad.
Coup de grace would have been John Travolta coming onto the stage in the middle of the dance scene. His career got started with the music of BG🎉
@croissant6428 The vile hatred during that game was a direct result of the "macho sports fan" striking out against gay culture which Disco showcased. It was a horrible moment.

If you watch the documentary, Barry talks about how the "disco sucks" movement meant they couldn't get airplay anymore and that there were clashes outside their concerts that bordered on dangerous. They had to pivot to writing for other people afterwards. So yes, they were successes afterwards but not in the usual way we define it.

I have not stoped playing this video ever since last night. I loved Ben Platt performance of one of mine favorite Beegee Songs. 1975 I was 11 and MainCourse was my favorite album with Nights on Broadway, Jive Talking and Fanny. I purchased it in 1976 and still have it. Great job.
In 1975 I was twelve and a little embarrassed to buy the album so I made my Dad do it -God bless him. Not because it was a disco album but if you remember the cover I was too shy to pick it up. Thanks dad! An all around great album with my favorite Bee Gees song NOB.😅
I am loving this song all my life, in 1975 I was 12 years old. This version of Ben Platt was perfect in every way, it instantly made me dance. What a beautiful voice!

Finally I know the name of this fabulous, fabulous singer - Ben Platt!!!! He knocked it out of the park. My heart was melting as he sang - brought tears in my eyes. His soulfulness came through and I thought he deserved a standing ovation. Some got it, but others were more restrained. His performance and that of Cynthia Erivo, both of whom I had never before heard of, were the best by a long shot during last night's Kennedy Honors show. Loved both! Thank you Ben and Cynthia from the bottom of my heart!

Cynthia is an acclaimed British actor - you can catch her in the Aretha Franklin bio series on A&E - she played Aretha very well; she was also in the Luther movie just to name a few.
Cynthia Erivo will be playing Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West, if you will) in the upcoming movie of the Broadway smash, Wicked.
You can find all kinds of excellent performances (as well as interviews) of Cynthia Erivo. Ben Platt, too. If I were to recommend four or five, I'd probably come back and write four or five additional suggestions.

This one really stood out from the rest. The band and vocals sounded 👌. It was all about honoring the music with something sober and elegant, and the best fit voice for the song.

@nicoletrudell2065 With all due respect, it’s far too early to call Ben Platt a generational talent. It’s just as likely that he never finds another major success as it is that he goes on to have success. He has plenty of talent, but think about others who had major talent and are now largely forgotten.
Not familiar with him but man, he BROUGHT it! A great performance. And I love the shots of the joyful audience having fun. In every shot of Queen Latifah she's always enjoying herself, proud to be honored and happy for her fellow honorees.

Ben Platt has a great voice with a lovely vibrato 😃👏🏼👏🏼 He's true to the melody line, which I know Barry Gibb likes. It would have been great if they had included the beautiful bridge for this song as well.
Vibrato and yes, true to the melody line which for me is the only way to go if you want the listener to have total satisfaction of song delivery.

This guy did a great job! A great job singing a great song, and I could not sit still. It’s one thing to sing along, but another thing to “move” along. He rocked it, just like it should be. My only regret with this show was that they could not have Celine Deion sing Immortality. That really shows the range of their songs. I bet they could have written a song just for Frank Sinatra. They are that good.

@barbarawebb7185 Celine Dion is battling a major health issue that impacts her muscles. It’s a rare condition, and she’s cancelled all engagements since her diagnosis. Performing requires not only strength to stand, move around the stage, etc., but also for breathing and her heart. It’s a very serious scare. You can Google it for more info.
