I Installed Android On My Old Gaming Laptop...

- Today we're installing Android on a failing gaming laptop.
For the last few months this old gaming machine has worked fine, but a broken GPU is causing it to struggle with even the most basic of tasks. Maybe this lightweight OS can help?

It doesn't matter what fashion you prefer, just as long as you safely unmounted it first, the usb stick won't get a scratch!
@@daanmageddon it is best to remove it from windows first, before unplugging it.
I laughed so much for that USB pull-out motion😂
Google: here you go, Chromebook, complete with its very own ChromeOS! Perfect for lightweight computers, and it even allows Android app support!
Us: ew get away from me trash
Android x86: Google's Android! Now on a Dell Optiplex!
Us: hell yeah that's what I'm talking about
Super interesting how people are still up in arms about Chromebooks but would willingly disregard any limitations of Android on non-mobile hardware.
Meh, the difference is Android X86 is free. If Chrome OS was free there would be no complaints.
mmm chrome it's free by someways but need to be build by yourself to use it :( i tried and was pretty good saddly my machine wasn't enough to keep installed and android x86 is more ligher
Chrome OS sucks because a Google account is nessecary to do anything with it, plus most if its apps are web based, so what would you do when you have spotty/no internet
The freaking chromeboook is locked in school mode android, that sucks
"It's a lovely day outside. Stay indoors" XD XD XD
There's a custom Androidx86 That's a Desktop Like Environment... Like BlissOS and PhoenixOS... And also they have a Game Mapping for keyboard and mouse...
that's an emulator, it needs the windows os

@@merlinch5453 oh ok, i looked it up online it's similar to linux. i thought it was one of the android emulators

2:55 RG got that strong pullout game 😂
Found Linux is better than Android for just a "media" system. Ive also stuck retropie onto my laptop.
This could be a lot easier to use for a windows user or a non-tech savy person. Also i'd wager that games from the app store would STILL run smoother on android than on Wine/Proton.
It depends. Some of the apps I use are simply not supported in Linux.
@@indonesiansasquatch4926 there is alot of distros and many of them are easy to use
like linux mint, zorin os, ubuntu
@@whssy well better there are more software on linux than android
and not many scuffed "editing" software
@@etlttc353 Like I said… it depends. All I need to use my old mini-laptop for is watching UA-cam, Netflix, HBO Nordic and listening to Audible and Tidal when I'm on the train.
I was never able to get HBO Nordic to work on Linux. Even the workarounds didn't work - so that was a dealbreaker for me.
For other users, Linux will be more viable - it just isn't for everyone.

Your 'remove the usb gently' joke got me to laugh, thanks!
what's the difference between gently and regularly removing usb?
You and ETA Prime are inspirations for me.
Cool video. I've seen ETA Prime's video on the same subject, and it's always nice to see new life put into old and ageing hardware. I wonder if a dual boot situation is possible, such as a Android/Linux setup. That would be something cool to maybe make a video on if it's even possible.
I actually tinkered around with Android x86 a bit on my old Acer Aspire 4330 back in 2013 or so, when the then-current build was still based on Android 4.4. It was neat, and ran amazingly smoothly and fast) quickly on my aging laptop, but I found it largely unfit for daily use, and instead ended up breathing new life into that old machine with Linux Mint.
I'm glad to see they're still working on the project though, and have updated it to more modern variants of Android. 👍
Your face reflection on the top plastic was hilarious

@@windowstips1430 it's already out in the form of bliss OS it's Android 10 but configured specifically to run on PC's/laptops installed the same way but it works way better than what was already in the video
Bliss os
It's actually already out (q-x86 developer branch was made available in November of last year). Right now it is mainly for developers, and you have to build it yourself from the source.
There are other custom Android x86 distros like BlissOS that offer ISOs based off of Android 10 if you don't want to build from source.
Try Bliss OS 12. It's better and it has Android 10 and inbuilt keymapper for games.
Can you give me a Download link? Can i dualboot it? Will it run on a intel celeron n3350 and intal hd 500 and 4gb of ram? And can i play games, eventually fortnite mobiele?

Windows can be a bit bloated on newer versions (e.g. Windows 10), though I'd have thought an early Core i5 would have handled it with no issues. Even so, great restoration and video :)
Most laptop GPUs are not removable...
Yeah I'm not sure why you would recommend doing this at all, as it seems like a fairly extreme measure to take when there are so many other steps to take first.
The OS is almost never the cause of slowdown with older hardware, and assuming the CPU is working properly and isn't a single or dual core processor it never is.
The most likely cause of slowdown is a full or failing HDD, followed by a virus.
It was an issue with the failing gpu. Intel gpu wasn't running great on Windows 10 due to the spec needed just to browse. That was the issue with it running slow and why he decided to try android due to the low hardware requirements (gpu especially).

How to install wine without the interface or being an Android version of it. I know Android x86 is based on Linux but can they run Linux programs?
No the base Android kernel is too heavily modified, but if you install Neverware's Cloudready OS aka Chromium OS on an X86-64 bit machine(make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM, 120GB of main storage(if you have a 2nd HDD/SSD unplug it during install so it does not accidentally wipe the drive, and install there, then plug it afterwards I know from experience of loosing some data lol) and a dual core CPU for comfortable usage, then you can go into the settings, and enable Linux support, but getting it to install at least for me at this point has been hit, and miss, but Chrome/Chromium(the opensource development version of Chrome OS) OS is based on Gentoo Linux, and BTW use Etcher to write your USB key no matter what OS you are using, as it does a better job then the official tool on the Neverware website.
www.neverware.com/freedownload#intro-text
You can install linux deploy or anLinux (root) and userland or my favourite, andronix (no root). They use proot to simulate the linux environment. As long as you have 200.000+ on antutu, it will be fine. Just make sure you have more than 4 gb of ram since remember that you will need to install the linux kernel, all the compiler and programs which will run on top of your android.
@@ragilmalik I think they mean without having to go through all those steps, which is why I gave the answer I did, but ultimately if you want to run Linux apps you should be running a good distro like Manjaro Mate, or Mint DE if you can find a workflow with Cinnamon DE,of which I personally can't since I've been a MATE DE user since the mid 00's, Budgie is my next favorite DE next to Chromium's Aura Shell
@@ragilmalik Linux Deploy and similar apps dont install the Linux kernel as its already installed. They just use it and install the rest of the operating system that can then run off the same kernel as Android, sharing all resources (except graphics).

I've had a similar Compal chasis with i5 - my first 'proper' laptop. After about 4 years the display died so I removed it and used the rest as a PC. Then another 3 years later the motherboard finally died. I have a lot of good memories with that machine, I still keep it in a box. I'm just too nostalgic about it.
Thank you for this video, a couple of questions: In order to upgrade the system one has to do a clean install or there is an option for upgrade? Also, this Android platform has access to Google Store?

android is anything but a light operating system
It's a hell of a lot lighter than windows though
Android is one of the lightest OS's available, the skins made by smartphone brands are what makes it heavy... Android x86 is based on purely stock Android (AOSP), you just don't get anything lighter than that, trust me.
