My take:
Maleficent was a perfectly utilized villain in KH: an ominous, menacing figure of clearly great dark power that appeared on a pretty consistent basis throughout the main quest, never letting you forget who was in charge of the Heartless infestation of the universe and intriguing you with hints at a greater goal, what with her talk of Princesses, the Final Keyhole, and opening the Door, plus the gradual process of getting Riku addicted to darkness so that he could become Ansem's vessel. Unfortunately, Maleficent didn't practice what she preached and became overconfident in herself holding total power over darkness, which allows Ansem to betray her, turning her into a crazy dragon that get slain by Sora and his friends. "A fitting end for such a fool", Ansem says, but I'd call it a fitting end for a great villain, defeated by herself and her own hubris more than anything or anyone else.
While Xehanort is a good villain and has become the overarching one for the games so far, we shouldn't forget how good Maleficent was in KH1 and how a good chunk of Ansem's plan was to get her to get everything done save the final stage
I just wish she resumed that role when She returned in KH2, and Onward, It seemed Once Pete came into the picture She's become less Terrifying.
Malecifent has always been considered the greatest disney villains for a reason.

I love that how out of everyone in the Disney League of Villains, her and Jafar were the two that were the most cool with each other.
Maleficent is constantly looking down on the other villains for relying too much on the darkness and the heartless, but I think she was as addicted to it as them. She tried to play it off as if she didn't need it as much. Judging by her words and her excitement over discovering "true darkness" when Ansem unlocked her heart, I always thought that she became "burned out" on the power of darkness after using it for so long. It didn't give her the same strength as it once did. Maybe it's because of her defeat by Aqua and Phillip in BBS? She could turn into a dragon then but apparently not during KH1 until her heart was unlocked.

The Disney villains were well used in KH1. They were build up as the big bads for the majority of the game. Maleficent in particular was a good foil as she set up a lot of the events of that game. In the end, you realize the true darkness that needed to be dealt with was Ansem (SOD aka Xehanorts Heartless). I didn't mind this. The problem was going ahead in future titles it was clear the Disney villains would just be background characters. Especially, as the story transitioned the Organization as the big bads. Maleficent contributed almost nothing in KH2, and her usage in KH3 was also questionable.
In conclusion, as much as I loved her character in KH1, seeing how she's used now I wish she would have just stayed dead. I'd rather characters bring something to the table to fulfill their purpose then just be another character that is around doing absolutely nothing.
here here. and most of the world in KH3 didnt even need Sora and Co in them (example the frozen world for one) at one point I was getting the urge to snack on popcorn when I was really looking forward to some true disney then Disney heartless fights. but nope cut sence and boop off to the next world and a refill on that salt and sweet popcorn
Most of the world in thr next game only fully follow the plot on the movie or if they dont, they didnt contribute much. In KH1 we have the Disney villains banning together, Ursula finding keyhole, Jafar kidnapping princess, the plot in each of the world does not always follow faithfully on the movie but essential to the story and raised few question such as how Triton know that Sora came from the outside world and Jasmine being kidnapped and Tarzan asked Kerchak to help Sora find Riku, Wendy being mistaken as the princess of heart and hook ship being used as one of the villain’s base, Pinnochio kidnapped by Riku, Beast follow Belle’s kidnapper to Hollow Bastion and save Sora from Heartless. so many interesting thing. The way their presented are interesting, not always follow the movie plotline but that is actually a good thing.
Then you realise the biggest reality yet: the only USEFUL villains were her and Hades most of the time being the most powerful Disney villains I suppose. The most manipulative and cunning! They attempt to reuse them throughout the series these two, and I suppose Pete, but I think they were more interested in Organisation Xiii and Xehanort since being the main villains in the end!
@@KetwunsGamingPad Captain Hook carted them all around on his ship, and Jafar was needed to capture Jasmine (although Riku was the one who kidnapped her). She probably needed Ursula to capture Ariel too in the event that she turned out to be a princess of heart. Pete was supposed to build Maleficent an army of Heartless. Oogie Boogie is the only one whose usefulness was basically non-existent; he was just a sentient bag of bugs.
I really hoped by Kingdom Hearts III she would have taken the role as a leading antagonist again. Granting her some kind of success, that made the players be like “uh oh Maleficent is now a problem. She has the box, or the book of prophecy. She has control of Kingdom hearts.” Something horrible

if I had the same level of swagger and grace like maleifcent I would be owning so much out of life. maleifcent knows she has the voice to coerse the purest of hearts. let's not forget Kingdom hearts has not finished and maleifcent is still in play. I just hope I'll be round to see her take true power.

Kingdom Hearts 1 still being the superior one. Both Square and Disney characters were all balanced and used well.
We never got another "Organization" of Disney villains like that after this game.

Loved everything about her in this title except the way she died silently, it felt weird and rushed
She dies but she always manages to come back to life.
At this point Maleficent is Post ToP Frieza. Not a true threat but a threat nonetheless.
She is going to be a huge threat in the future of Kingdom Hearts!

Oogie Boogie: the shadow of the moonlit night, and mechanic

Pete: the bumbling muscle
KH1 Maleficent: a serious threat that sets in motion the events of the game
KH2 Maleficent: an aging woman who is desperately trying to convince everyone she's still the main bad guy.

Maleficent really should have stayed dead in KH1. She was a perfectly utilized villain in that game, and unlike Ansem SoD I wouldn't change anything about her screentime. But went downhill afterwards and it's such a shame.
No, that’s not how she’s supposed to be. She’s supposed to come back to life, as always.
She can’t truly die. It’s in canon. Not in the Sleeping Beauty movie but in the book, that’s a sequel.

In Sleeping Beauty (1959), Maleficent curses the infant princess Aurora, that before the sun sets on her 16th birthday, she shall prick her finger on a spindle of a spinning wheel, but Merryweather had a gift that she shall sleep until the true love's kiss shall be awaken.

So to summarize:
They gather the 7 princesses of pure hearts. During 6:48 Maleficent even casually explains that Kairi lost her heart and says there will prolly be a way to fix that behind the final door.
But during 8:54 it turns out that precisely of the fact, that she lost her heart, it doesn't work and the mentioned solution behind the final door can not be reached because... well it doesn't work - end of her plot. Kinda anti climactic.
Also: Where did Riku and Cpt. Hook pick Kairi up? Is that ever brought up?
It was never addressed where Kairi was before Riku and Hook picked her up. I thought Neverland, or maybe in London, at some point when hook took Wendy.
1:50 That scene is like a reference to star wars. Join the dark side Riku. Only then you'll be able to save Kairi. Just my opinion.

You can’t say that at all, cause KH 1 was first released in 2001 in Japan and 2002 in America.
Descendants came out in 2015…. And the sequels came out later. (Forgot what years 😅)

No, the original voice actor (Eleanor Audrey) died in 1991, almost a full decade before KH. Maleficent is voiced here by Susan Blakeslee, who does an uncanny impression of Audrey.
Right Susan Blakeslee Voices a lot of Disney Villains now, Such as Lady Tremaine, and The Evil Queen. She is also Wanda from Fairly Odd Parents

No, it's not. The original movie had Eleanor Audley voicing her but she passed away in 1991; this is Susan Blakeslee voicing her here as she does in all modern Disney projects.

She never took orders from "Ansem" (aka Xehanort). They simply worked together and Xehanort took over after Maleficent's defeat. They actually had different agendas. Maleficent never acknowledged anyone as her superior.
