Arguably the most interesting Disney character in the game. I hope she gets KH1 treatment in future games and they make her important again. She’s the reason why the Disney worlds felt connected and essential to the story unlike in KH2 and KH3 where they feel like mostly filler. Make Maleficent important again!
In a certain sense of the word important, she has technically still been doing exactly what she was doing in KH1. If you pay attention to how Maleficent has always acted, it has always been in pursuit of "the long game" rather than just a simple one off objective. From what I have been able to see, she hasn't changed her *goal* just the methods used to reach said goal.
@@gman1857I see what you mean. I suppose in KH1 it was going to the different worlds to collect the Princesses and when that was thwarted she began traveling the worlds in search of the box. So yeah I can see what you’re saying.
Despite not feeling very important after KH1, i'd like to think there's a reason they kept maleficent around for nearly every game and gave her abilities like time travel, etc.
@@TitanMaster4554 I think Maleficent just doesn't like going the low route of being dirty and underhanded, it's above her, and I think she's too proud and boastful to do dirty tricks. She prefers to tackle her enemies head on and give them equal footing against her. Where's the fun in always playing dirty anyway?
Maleficient deserves better! I hope KH4 or what comes now has something exciting for her. Now that there arent going to be 13+ versions of xehanort i hope the main villains are MoM and Maleficient
It does seem like Maleficent is being set up as the actual archenemy of the series going forward, seeing as she's still out and about after Xehanort's death. Much like Dr. Eggman in the modern Era of Sonic - while she's rarely if ever the final boss, she's always going to be causing troubles in the foreseeable future, outliving any greater threats that come along the way like Xehanort or, likely, the Master of Masters. The big thing is, though, Nomura / Disney needs to start being okay with letting the character actually do Disney Villainous things that aren't just setting up future plot points / cleaning up plotholes. As much as I and lots of others really didn't like how she was handled in KHII, they did ONE thing right: in the middle of a grand plot to rebuild her evil empire, she gets distracted and decides to destroy Christmas for no good reason other than pure spite. THAT'S Maleficent! Have her do all the grand world conquering business you want - and have her also casually do random spiteful acts along the way that serve no real purpose other than, well, that's how the Mistress of All Evil do. One minute, a grand plot to create a legion of Heartless. The next, casually poisoning the food at Le Grand Café in Twilight Town to get everybody sick. Why? EVIL for its own sake, that's why! Also maybe give her more villains to talk to than Pete or the occasional Hades. JUST SAYING, Nomura; whole lot of fun crossover potential going to waste there. Also get Yoko Shimomura to write her her own theme already so she's not stuck with the same generic villain theme as every other Disney villain. I've thought about this too much.
KH1: I’ll gather the seven princesses to rule all of the worlds KH2: I’ll take this castle and kingdom hearts belongs to me KH3: I need to find a box that only appears during a key blade war to begin my real work and have no need being here Like what? Four better give her better treatment like the first one that’s I’m all I’m saying
Maleficent was always supposed to be a Red Herring villain in comparison to Ansem/Xehanort. We all know how evil, powerful and dangerous she is, and teaming her up with the likes of Jafar, Ursula and Hades only makes her more dangerous when all three of them answer to her. But Maleficent has the same flaws that all the other villains have: lust for power. She insisted Jafar and Clayton were weak for succumbing to the darkness while she was being used by the Heartless from the beginning. She's exceptionally powerful, but still has no real concept of the kind of power she wants to have. It's why no other villains join forces with her and Pete after II, it's why both the good guys and bad guys largely ignored her in III and it's probably why she'll remain on the sidelines in IV in favor of whichever new villain they roll with (be it Luxu or TMOM).
After all the years we waited to see her, we get only cutscenes. No plan, no mention of what she wants to do. Nothing. I may be complaining, but I thought she’d at least explain what will happen.
That darn dragon form in KH1, man. When I was a kid I accidentally chose hard mode when I played the game the first time by choosing to start my journey at night ("night's cool!" I thought, and never put 2 and 2 together). It took forever to even get to her, and it took even longer to beat her lol. I had to stock up on megalixirs and cheese by hiding behind a giant bramble and letting Donald and Goofy whiddle her down. Sometimes I'd get brave and spam firaga at her from a distance, then I'd run back behind the bramble until Donald and Goofy woke back up with a little bit of health to distract her for a second. I think it look me like two hours to get her low enough that I managed to sneak the final hit in.
Should re-upload this sometime with her scenes in the mobile game; its story will be finished soon. Besides that, Maleficent deserves so much better from this series, and I don't know whether to blame Nomura for his unwillingness to take full advantage of this crossover in favor of spitefully realizing his vision for FFXV at the expense of Kingdom Hearts, or Disney for being Disney and shutting down said crossover potential; not realizing KH thrived when Disney kept its hands off the project and let it be. Or both. It's probably both.
In fairness, Maleficent's heavily implied to be planning something big in the future. She's not interested in Xehanort's plans because... well, why care about the chessboard if you're playing checkers?
Totally both. Even when having access to Square's whole FF library, Nomura only ever included characters from the FF games he was in charge of save for Setzer. It was always less of an FF/Disney crossover and more a Nomura/Disney crossover. As time has gone on and more original characters are introduced, it feels more and more like Nomura is trying to slowly ween KH off of needing Disney or Final Fantasy to exist, while Disney gives more and more red tape around using their characters which only encourages Nomura trying to avoid them.
I’ll admit I didn’t enter KH caring for any of the Disney villains besides Hades, but Twisted Wonderland has given me a new filter, especially when Malleus is one of my favorite characters from that game. And now, seeing Riku next to Maleficent makes me think of Silver lol.
Maleficent and Pete been poking around Sora's companions in KH1, KH2, and Re: Coded. So how are Maleficent and Pete important parts of Kingdom Hearts series now? Did they kind of make their roles eventually become useless?
Maleficent didn't have any scenes interacting with them in KH1 (a major missed opportunity, there, I know; as KHII proved, you get some good material when you put two extremely charismatic villains like Maleficent and Oogie Boogie together)

Love her. Icon.
This is one of my favorite villains in the game.
Wish they all stayed around, the bosses from Disney that is.
considering she is the mistress of evil she does gove a lot of warning and heads up when it comes to the darkness and heartless.
I feel like she does it to boast her supposed knowledge of the darkness, despite her fate.

At this point Maleficent should be the Protagonist, Maleficent vs MoM.

A part of me wonders if Maleficent was ever aware of Vanitas.
Maleficent says Xehanort told her to leave Ventus unharmed. He might have explained why.

Final Fantasy XV is the carion bird who tore Versus XIII apart, wore its skull as a crown, and its skin as a coat.
