I grew up in my late grandfathers shop He was a Consew guy with the 226 and 255. I learned to to sew on a 226 that he had bough new in the 70's he kept it for almost 40 years till he sold it and bought a new old stock 255 one of the last ones out of japan. He kept 3 machines in his shop a 255 setup for heavy work (vinyl and leather), a 255 setup for normal cloth, and a brother that he used for lightweight (polished cotton and such). He kept a welt foot in both 255's to sew most anything he did use a flat foot on the Brother. He for the most part stopped doing cars in the late 80's and specialized in antiques. He got his start as a teen rebuilding mattresses that lead to him apprenticing and having his own shop for 60+ years.

I have owned one for 6 years now doing Aviation Interiors for 17 years of my 31 years of upholstery. I just installed a needle positioner and rarely have to "hold" the tails at the beginning of the stitch. It can sew Sixteen( yes, 16) layers of 3 oz leather by walking it through by hand!

Thanks for the information on your best choice in commercial sewing machines. You mentioned the noise that detracts from a good choice. If you can' t stop it .. reduce or eliminate it. Many hearing aid audiologist clinics will custom fit your ears with ear plugs that encapsulate ceramic filters to eliminate certain sound bandwidths but allows for easy listening to conversations you are participating in. They make a mould of your ears and construct them in a clear flexible plastic. Phone around for a free consultation and price comparison, as you would any purchase. I make bags and purses with a Juki du181n I honestly think your machine has a little more strength. I have been using it for 4 years now and I absolutely love mine. I’m hoping to start doing upholstery soon. Your techniques are very helpful.

I have the same model. Love it. Do a lot of webbing stuff etc. I have a pulley speed reducer on mine. That big knob on tob is sure sweet to grab when going over big changes in thickness. Went a long time before I tried it. Great videos.

I’m fairly new to sewing- I bought the Juki lu2810 for a specific purpose, making carpet cleaning pads for our carpet cleaning business.
It is a task specific machine- straight stitch-

this lu-2810 is one of the best machine, we have durkoop adler 867 classic with auto thread trimming, backtack and auto foot lift and in my opinion is the best out there, little expensive but can be run 2 shift with no probem, so far i have 7 different model for the last 17 years and not a even 1 problem soo far, we have 1 juki plc 2760-7 machine 3 adler 867 classic models hat get the job done.
You know what they say, "Three or more of anything is a collection!" You're a real warrior!
Well I couldn't afford an LU-2810, but I did just order a Juki DNU-1514s, which should work good for me. I'm pretty new at this, only having my old Consew 226 for less than a year. Thanks for all your instruction. Practicing some seat inserts, and getting ready to do a round top stool with diamond tuck, and a headliner in my wife's truck soon. You have inspired me on the upholstery work!

I can’t use a sewing machine, but this was fascinating to watch and learn. A new LU-2810 is $7000 here in New Zealand. Ouch. But if you’re using it commercially, it’s probably not a bad deal. Cheers

It definitely makes a little noise but I’m thinking it’s more the presser foot pressure enhancing that from touching the feed dog without material between them.
Thin material makes more noise since it’s less padding.

My 1508 is a bit noisy compared to my 226r but it will stich most anything.
I run 4 different Juki models for costume apparel. Easy to use. Easy to maintain. A bit noisy. (Avoid clutch motors when possible)
Definitely investigate all of the options that can be added to a particular machine to fine tune your investment.

I love a top loading bobbin vs a bobbin that loads from the bottom of the machine. I can just slide the plate over to see how much thread is left. Bottom loading bobbins, it was a guessing game. 😊

The bobbin cover plate has a notch in the front corner where you close the bobbin thread on so you don’t have to manually pull it up with the top thread before starting

I'm a newbie with upholstery creations, (started two years ago), and was anxious to get started when I bought a machine. I should have waited to purchase one of these instead of a Consew 2206RB-14-7DD. I like the way it runs, (it's pretty quiet), and some of it's features but realized I didn't need or use all the computerized functions after buying it. I'd probably trade it or sell it to get one like yours, but I'd be losing money. Maybe one day I will though. Thanks for the review!
Who knows what the future holds for you and your machine. There is always room for some improvement according to your specific situation. Upgrade or downgrade.
This is a whole lot of machine for a newbie with industrials. Those consews are good machines, I learned how to use an industrial on a 206rb1 30 years ago. Master that and if you need a beast for future work, I can say the 2810 is a very sweet option. Just don't try to move it🤮

I own 2 1510N-7 Jukis. Best machines ever. First one I bought 19 yrs ago. This 2810 comes 2810-7 as well in an Auto trimmer. After sewing canvas and custom upholstering ( 50 yrs now) with an auto trimmer I'll never go back to a non auto trimmer. Anyone who really works full time year round at his shop watching this video get the extra money up and buy an auto trimmer in this 2810 version or 1510N-7. Not only faster but so much easier. And no issues in 19 yrs with mine.

Actually I didn't count the years working part time for my father in the business. Grammer school,highschool and what to do with my life years. So definitely more then 50 yrs but 50 is good enough.

That Juki is a lot like the Pfaff 1245 I used when I was doing upholstery. Love the top load bobbin. Pfaff is more $$.

Ok so I do marine upholstery. Just got on of these machines, set it up and ran a 26x32 Diamond tufted panel in less than 15 minutes. What a difference from my standard LS2-837. The area under the arm is massive for a "non long arm" . Unless you're doing large canvas work, this has a plenty of space for most anything you'd be doing.
love the bobbin winder... it's much better than the old style. The bobbins are pretty large too.
Word of caution for those considering it, this machine is huge.. It's hard to tell from photos how much larger the head is than say a 206rb, or a Juki 1510/241. It weight 130lbs, just the head. it's at least 50% larger in every dimension than a standard machine, and probably 35% larger than the 1508 head, so the area of table to the left of the head is reduced quite a bit. It needs and extension or to sit up against another table if you're sewing large items.
It is also the most complex single needle machine I've ever threaded, granted a few times and it's old hat. The build quality is quite good for a Chinese machine as well. Not quite up to the Japanese made machines in fit and finish but it's impressive none the less.
Lastly, because most of these seem to be set up for the German style feet, and not the singer 111 type, don't run away. There is a company making an adaptor which I got with the machine so all ofy standard feet fit it and work flawlessly.
If this machine runs as well and lasts as long as Juki machines normally do, this one is a steal at 3k..

Juki is supposed to have rep's in China watching this production. I know Juki makes this 2810 in a version with the 111w style feet. At least in the autotrimmer version which I would get. I own 2 made in Japen 1510N-7 auto trimmers and will never go back to non auto. I custom upholster now 50 yrs. Had many machines including a 2 Brother B837s. Almost bought a 2810-7 auto but made in China scared me. And a marine canvas guy had big issues with one and went back to 1510. But I still wish I tried.
@@jimbobxcityguy5338 understood. I was skeptical as well. Having had it 10 months now the only issue that's come up is one of the lines that feeds oil to the hook was leaking. I cut it back 2mm and reclamped and it's been 100% reliable so far. I haven't used my B837 since. It's a good machine, sounds a little funny but I think it's the plastic drip pan. The machine echos in the drip pan and sounds different than any machine I've used.
For what it costs, I'd say it is a winner.
@@scottbryant9425 I always had issues with new machines when new. But simple to fix and they went off and running strong for years. They have to be setup proper as well for the type of work. My made in Japan 1510N-7's had mechanial issues as well new. That is why I would never buy off the internet from say Goldstar. I buy from a professional Juki dealer with service ept. As well as genuine Juki parts. If your young and doing this fulltime you might want to think about an auto trimmer version. It's so so amazing for custom work. Goldstar has a utube video on one that shows some function of them. Lot's of professional canvas/upholstery guys ignore what I try to tell them about these autotrimmers. Ignorant and really stupid or narrow minded. They think of full of crap. I'm going thru 55 yds of 60 of Sunbrella Marine 9 oz for custom ride covers for a amusment park this week alone. Last week it was 5 30x67x4 in welted/boxed new day bed cushions.. I'll never go back to manual or non auto trimmer.
Do you have a recommendation for a machine that would be adequate for limited, non-professional use such as for side panels or small seats using lightweight vinyl or cloth material?
Sounds like you can use a used older commercial machine with reverse and walking foot. Maybe Juki, Consew, Brother. Sometimes at the upholstery suppliers, they have a bulletin board posting used sewing machines for sale.
Is it possible to use a double needle with that?
I know it's a single needle but if there are accessories to buy?

I have an old Singer treadle sowing machine is virtually new condition. I was considering selling it but I thought about learning to use it for car seats on classic cars. My Uncle owned it and used it for leather work, so I think it is quite strong. It will be probably from around 1930 and folds into the table, so the condition is still like new and all pieces and bobbins are there. Should I learn to use it in my retirement? Everything looks to operate the same as your machine although it looks totally different and is quiet.

I have a question for you if you don't mind. I have a convertible top that needs the hem around the window and over the doors re-stitched. The thread seems to wear out first. What kind of sewing machine or how do you restitch these without taking the top off?

Hi Rudolph, I've watched many pf your videos and have learned alot. Thanks! I've done a few projects and made many of the customary mistakes. Question regarding your machine. I have a consew 206rb5 and it is limited to size 138 thread. You said you use 277 in the Juki, did you have to make adjustments to the machine to use that large thread or does it handle that in the standard configuration. I'm thinking of getting the Juki which was recommended to me as a better machine.

For 43 years I just bought what was on the shelf at my upholstery supplier. I know I have put a heavier top thread with minimal tension adjustment. Please keep liking and watching!
As a general rule you can always run a heavier top thread (with in reason ) on any well made industrial/Heavy material sewing machine. You run into major headaches with tension issues if you try to run a too large bobbin thread.

I thought about getting this machine also. Can't decide between this or the juki 1508NH which can sew tex270/277. Can the 2810 sew tex 270/277on top? Have you had any problems with your 2810? How thick can you sew? I hear the 1508NH has great punching power and is made in japan. Is the 2810 as good?

I have sewn extensively on the 1508 and now own the 2810. I don't care for the tension plate or the thread routing on the 1508nat all. I've got two friends that have them and both have regretted that purchase. The 2810, is very nice, about the same in terms of it's build quality, and it's sort of "clunkiness" , not the quietest machine. Same bobbin, much larger area to work with, and overall really nice.

I have a question. I am new to industrial machines so maybe I am missing something. I just found the same machine you have selling slightly used. Super deal. You mentioned mostly using 92 thread as I recall. I believe the manual listed the thread range for this machine to be up to 69. I assume you have no trouble with 92 if you use it. My question is, what is the largest thread you use and is there anything to know about available needles other than the point type? Any info you can share would be very welcome. Maybe a video. Hello Jason, The only needle I have been using for 43 years is the 135X17 for everything including the much thicker T270 top thread. Same needle. Not rocket science. Please keep liking and watching!

My book says 46 to 138 and it sounds like you use larger thread on occasion without a problem. I ask because I am about to order some various thread and some diamond needles for some leatherwork. Judy, I'm trying to avoid buying the weld foot twice for getting the wrong size. I understand that the size of the weld foot depends on the size of the piping you will be using. @@oldschoolautoupholstery NO there is a French seam foot it is a guide to run exactly 1/8 or whatever size you have. from the seam.....you dont seem to need one though. your sewing is very straight. I certainly do. without that I cant sew any kind of French seam or flat stitch.

Unfortunately the new Juki’s are inferior in quality compared to the older ones. Durkorff Adlers are the ducks nuts for the motor trimming industry, I run four machines, one single needle and three twin needles with electronic motors

the ones made in Japan are the good ones, most companies are manufacturing them in China, and don't worry about which brand is better, with a minimum order, the factory will put any name on the machine you want
