My favorite tip was to focus on progressive overload. I feel like many beginners put their focus on trying new things every time they go to the gym, when in reality they need to stop program hopping and focus on key fundamental exercises while getting stronger 💪🏼

Merijn , you’re so humble! One of my favorite tips was you mentioning consistency. Being a “hard gainer” I’ve found every excuse in the book as to why I wasn’t able to put on size, and it was because I claimed I did everything in the book I was told to do! But the reality was, I was too impatient and not willing to put in the work on a consistent basis. Your early videos also taught me this concept through your example, and it really changed my perspective on my goals.
    Thank you Merijn!

I only tracked for 2 months but that was enough for me to learn portion sizes perfectly. Now I can gain or lose weight easily with intuition. I know a lot of people can’t do this but It works for me. I recommend people track for a little bit but not forever unless you’re a body builder. Average Recreational lifters don’t need to track long term.

When I started my journey to get a better physique, I made the same mistake most people make. Instead of learning about something myself, I thought that asking someone, who already knows the shit would save me time. So I asked a worker from my gym, who looked buffed af to make me a nutrition plan. And as you can imagine it looked exactly like this
    - 5 meals a day
    - shit-ton of chicken breast, sometimes beef
    - rice and veggies, sometimes a bit of pasta or potatoes
    etc.
So I started following that plan hyped to see results as soon as possible. But after almost half a year had passed, I noticed, that I didn't only not gain any visible muscle mass, I even LOST weight. So I asked that guy from the gym again and instead of actually doing something helpfull, he was all like "yeah yeah that's normal. The gains will start coming after a year or so". It was that exact moment, that I noticed, that something was off. So I started informing myself and that was the time I discovered your youtube channel, which changed my life. I watched nearly all of your videos in one weekend and learned as much form them, as I possibly could. So I calculated my TDEE, my surplus and started counting my macros. And BOOM I started seeing first results after WEEKS.
After I had gained about 8 kgs I actually started looking like I was actually doing fitness. So one day this guy from the gym saw me again and noticed some changes. He was all like "yeah I told you, that you'd see results after some more time". I turned to him and said "yes, I did gain muscle mass. But your "advice" didn't do shit and you literally didn't do anything, except for wasting half a year of my time. Thanks for that, asshole". After I turned away from him and went to the locker room, I noticed what just happened. By improving my physique, I subconciously also build the confidence to stand up to someone, which I had real trouble with before.
I really learned a LOT from your videos, but I'd say when it comes to fitness, the most important thing was that you've taught me to count my macros. You have changed my life in a way i never could have imagined when I started working out. Thank you Merijn, keep up your great work and I really hope, that you will reach every single goal you set your mind to.

@@MerijnOfficial And thank you for not being just a fitness coach, but also a lifestyle role model. You behave in a way, that is the perfect mixture of being an idiotic child and a responsible adult. You show a lot of people, that you can enjoy your life without going completely crazy, get irresponsible and damage your health. The way you treat your friends, your family and Veronica, aswell as how you deal with any possible situation in life is something many people should look up to and try to achieve. One of my biggest dreams is to meet you, just so I can say "thank you" to you in person. Not just from me, but from every single person who was able to learn from your as much, as I did.

Lost 35 pounds this year on Paleo but now I want to gain it back in muscle and I am at a point where I am not gaining or loosing even though I am working out. I know I need to track my calories and I also need to stop obsessing on protein and put some carbs back in my diet since Paleo takes carbs out.

I also think too much masturbation may be bad for some people. I didn't think it was affecting me, but I decided to try nofap and have made steroid like gains this week despite sleeping less and eating unhealthy. Could be placebo but who knows. I don't even plan to stop masturbation completely, but these results are addictive.

Reason why carbs are important for natty skinny is because of high metabolic rate. It burns muscle if we are in a caloric deficit of 400+.
Though 0.7 protein per pound of body weight is still high and costly in my opinion. Unless you are competing.

Honestly I fell into the same trap with cardio. I thought that if some cardio was good then more must be better to help me stay lean while bulking up. Ultimately, I just wound up spinning my wheels because I was too afraid to commit to being in a caloric surplus for the amount of time that it takes to build substantial amounts of muscle. I love all of these tips and I appreciate that you're more than willing to admit that you've made some of these same mistakes in the past. Keep up the fantastic content and have a great Holiday! I count macros, weigh myself but I think I take in too few calories per day. Focusing too much on protein. But my question is: how do I know how many calories do I need to stay at my weight/vs to gain? I take in about 2200-2800/day. Which I feel is not enough after watching this video 😄

I spend a year at the gym doing everything wrong eating a lot of junk and not taking protein but I gained some weight but it was all fat lol but now that I eat healthy 3200 calories per day and I take protein in the morning and at night I’m seeing results

    Point 1 is dead-on.
Point 2 is totally wrong. Unhealthy food is N-E-V-E-R necessary.
    Point 3 [skipped].
Point 4 is good. Only 8-10% of your total caloric intake needs to be protein.

He never said it’s necessary. Just said it’s a way to get calories up

Would you advice a 15 year old to do a mini cut just for a week after like 4 months of lean bulking? Also my biggest mistake was chasing the pump.
