    One thing that a lot of people don't realize is the glass starts to limit the benefit of very high resolution sensors. I have a 32 megapixel canon apsc camera and it is almost impossible to get a lens that produces and image that betters the one you get on a 24 megapixel sensor. The quality of glass needed for a higher resolution m43 sensor will be next to impossible. So you will be storing large files for nothing.

      Yeah, the puny pixel pitch of a higher megapixel sensor on the M4/3 crop size has disadvantages in both rendering and low-light.. And both the OM-1 and OM-5 already have the high resolution modes to offer the good effects of more megapixels, without the disadvantages of miniscule pixel pitch.
      ~30 mpx would probably be a deal-breaker for me.

    Oh dear we don't need 40+ megapixels. It is getting silly.. all we need is a sensor that captures better dynamic range, better evf, better menu in a body similar to om5 or em1 and not as big as OM1

      It will be the same 20MP sensor from the OM-5 or the 20MP BSI sensor from the OM-1 and OM-1ii. Telling people it might be new and bigger is just going to line people up for disappointment.

      40+ is good as long as you have an option to shoot other megapixels sizes like 20+. This is what Canon does.

      A non stacked quad bayer BSI sensor (like Apple uses in its phone) would be compelling.
      Remember that stacked BSI sensors sacrifice surface area for autofocus rather than maximizing the photosites.

    Hello Andrea, my 2 cents : this camera is rumoured to be sold at 1700 USD, so just between the OM5 and the OM1. If there is a new sensor+TruePic set, I do not think it will go in the direction of a 41Mpix sensor, but more in the direction of a better analog rendering ("Vintage camera", so maybe a better black and white rendering without being reduced to a monochrom version).

      Because they take them off snapshots or screenshots of another screen. And as soon as you take a picture of a screen, you get artifacts because of screen frequency.
      I imagine this doesn’t leak out of someone that has access to the full resolution promotional material, and if it did it can’t be out of the same computer that has the material.
      And yeah this was not what I was expecting 😂, I just don’t see the value proposition vs an om5ii yet. Unless they do like really different sensors for this and claim that it is “photography focused”

    Hey Andrea, thanks for the sharing of this photo. I like the new design a lot. Hope they make a full metal body not plastic/composite as the OM-5. This is the product to put a PEN-F design and care. Remember PEN-F is probably the only one modern camera with no screws visible on the body.
    For the sensor I’m a bit skeptical it will be the new 40mp sensor. 20mp is still ok for such camera, more important is to make it with phase detect AF and to be fast, accurate and responsive. No need of crazy speeds for continuous shooting, just good AF.
    other important thing is what kind of battery they will put. Hope for a new bigger battery,to be able to survive at least half day walking and taking photos.
    So for now the first signs looks good, let’s see what direction will take, I’m inspired for now.

I love the 12Mp sensor on the Nikon D700, and the 8Mp CCD sensor on the Sony F828, but being realistic those older sensors have lower ISO capabilities and most new buyers demand newer standards. For anyone working, the minimum standard for stock photography and most jobs is now 25Mp so those older cameras are good for personal pleasure, but don't cut it when it comes to sales in store, and any professional use. Very few buyers accept anything less than 25Mp these days, and the camera has to sell in order to make a profit for the company.

    The Sony 47MP mft sensor is for industrial applications. This is not going to be a new flagship, so it will either have the same sensor as the OM-5, or it will have the new BSI sensor in the OM-1 and OM-1ii. Pixel resolution is not everything, in fact, for the typical apertures used in landscape, street and wildlife (i.e. narrower than f/4.0 typically for mft) then 20-25Mp is the diffraction limit - so more isn't going to bring anything of value, just slower readout, lower dynamic range, more noise, etc. Putting out a rumour that this camera will have a new larger sensor is just lining people up for disappointment.

    It doesn’t look like a brand leader more like the Nikon Zf to the Z8 or Z9. Me thinks the OM3 will have a similar appearance to the OM2. There seems to be market segment for analogue controlled cameras with a vintage appearance. If by chance it comes with a 40mpx sensor then one can assume the OM3 would have one too.

  • @bsum8715
    @bsum8715 18 годин тому

    A new sensor can be a downgraded sensor. It might be a partiallly-stacked 20MP sensor instead of the (fully) stacked sensor in OM-1s. But I am happy that it appears to be having an EVF.

  • @pgy8863
    @pgy8863 11 годин тому

    That is a very handsome camera. I'm left a little limp as the OM-5 and OM-1 are both handsome and fit for purpose. I would assume that Olympus lenses of old had aperture controls. I don't know of any Oly lenses that that aperture rings and in fact Oly cameras can't make use of the rare ones that appear on some Pany lenses. So I'm hesitant about how Oly is going to handle aperture control - maybe a ring around the lens mount? Anyway I don't want to throw a wet blanket on this rumour. If OM systems actually does something new and something bold, even if it isn't for me, all of the photography community should all be happy.

    If it's a stacked OM5 sensor, that would already come as a positive surprise for me. My guess is the software feature will be somewhere between OM5 and OM1 II. 40+ megapixels is just not a good idea for MFT... apart from all the optical issues that would come from 40MP, it looks like most people who ask for that sort of thing don't even buy lenses that make full use of 20 MP. Besides, even the very best and most expensive MFT lenses struggle with 23+ MP.

      It's nothing to do with the lenses, it's diffraction. This camera won't have a new sensor. I would put money on it being a reskinned OM-1.

    it looks just like my omd-em10ii. The idea they would put a new sensor in anything other than the flagship first is not likely. why would there be a market for a 3 when there is 1, 5 and 10 makes no sense there is not enough difference between 1 and 5 to fit another in there in a meaningful way.

    Hmmmm no, that is not an OM3, the most important detail of that camera is in the viewfinder shape. The view finder shape is more aggressive and poligonal in the original OM3 and OM4, whereas in OM2 and OM1 is more... pointy? in my opinion it lacks character being so ponti, so it is a pass for me. (I have a Olympus 4Ti camera and love it to dead, for me it is the most beautiful classic dslr camera out there)

    OM System should have joined L-mount and went into FF, covering the (huge) gap with reasonably priced and sized photography-oriented cameras for enthusiasts and vloggers. Leica's are out of reach for most, Panasonic cameras are professional machines, big and heavy. Sigma cameras - won't even comment on that...

    ...this camera does not have a grip?... ergonomically looks outdated and not particularly nice to hold, also looks very big in it's width, which made sense in a 35mm film camera but not much in a M43 DSLR.
    Keeping fingers crossed, I hope to be wrong. Personally I think it would make more sense to be named OM-2, or OM-4, the real flag ships of the old analog Olympus system. Although a new Pen-like model or a new OM-10 would be better commercially, no?...
