1970s + Southern California + KISS = the American Dream. You had to be there to fully understand how epic it all was. KISS particularly embodied and defined the idea of rock gods to the mind of a teenager or kid in that time. They were and enigma, truly larger than life.
Imagine the effect Kiss and California had on this English 14 year old kid in 1977!I was over there for 6 weeks in the summer, saw Kiss at the LA Forum, smoked my first joint and went to Vegas, and the Grand Canyon. What a summer!
I was there! Magic Mountain May 1978. Won tickets from LA top-40 TenQ radio. I recall the stage in the parking lot opposite Colossus, which was still under construction. Full blown concert with the Love Gun tour stage and set list. A couple hours after, they returned to the stage to perform some of the songs again for the film. This time, however, with their nemesis counterparts on stage. I recall we were also instructed to chant some stuff for the scene. At least, that's how that 13yo kid remembers. The movie certainly sucked but that concert was spectacular
Does anyone else for just a quick second watching these, have memories of the smell of the tour programs (they used a distinctive smelling ink) and the trading cards from back in the day??!!! When all of this was happening it was beyond magical...I miss the magic of the now dead and gone show-biz.
Hell yeah! The programs,shirt albums! Everything had a smell to it! I miss that stuff,opening it ,looking through it,with the album playing..........GREAT!

The trading cards and stickers .... I could never save them to collect them they all ended up on my bed head... so I could fall aslee looking at them... KISS was the first time I fell in love 😍... 3yrs old ... adored them!
For as much trash talk these four do with each other, they were magical as a group and created something the world had never really seen, heard or experienced.
I love the Haze of the warm sunset dusk as it starts to go down before the Kings of the night time world take the stage in all of its '70's glory. I sigh with such fondness of that time! I'm thankful I was able to be a part of THIS KI⚡️⚡️ army! -
Wow thanks so much for the upload. I was at this concert and even though it was 42 years ago I still remember it vividly. These guys totally blew my 15 year old self at the time away. There was never a concert I been to since then that even came close to the experience that happened on that day. I remember it being so loud that later on it was reported to be heard 5 miles away in the valley. The best part it was a free show just by sending a stamped envelope to the radio station KMET in Los Angeles and they mailed you back 2 tickets. If you look at the crowd you can tell it was full of only the most diehard of KISS fans. Peace

This is like a magical happy place that I was obsessed with in my youth, a safe zone, like a drug almost, the best, pure total greatness and awesome. Feels good to revisit.
Where I lived we had 3 tv channels, one of them happened to be an NBC affiliate which carried that movie. I remember Paul Stanley sitting on a fountain picking "Beth", a piano song, on the guitar. I decided then watching him that I wanted to play guitar. I received my first guitar that Christmas, a $25 Sears special. 44 years later I'm still playing guitar, although much better ones. Yeah, campy movie but major impact in my life.
Awsome I was there also my cousins won tickets from KMET and my aunt made them take me. I was 5 at the time and now I'm 51 and grandfather now. But still have the ballon and shirt from that day may 18th 1978

If you look quick at the first close up Gene on the lift, he is playing a Gibson thunderbird with a Musicman Stingray pickup in it. Gene recorded many bass lines with the Stingray. Seeing Gene with a Thunderbird is rare but in 2021, his new signature model will be a Gibson Thunderbird. Yes, I’m a bass nerd.
My God this is incredible! The quality is amazing. It looks like yesterday. I was 9-10 years old when was happening & saw this tour. They left me speechless! It’s why I started playing guitar. It was so magic to me. I wore out the albums & bought every mag’ I could find. There was absolutely no access to them. In my world and young mind they were mystic! Thank you for this!

Oh I can't believe you posted this. I was 14 years old at the time. I was pitching in a Little League game at the Bunny Luv fields, while this concert at Magic Mountain was going on. Best night of my Pitching career. . Coach said, why don't you pitch like that all the time ? I said hire Kiss ! Got the game ball that night !! Great memory ...
Funny watching the cars leaving behind the stage suring 'Detroit'. Whatever I think of them now (Paul especially), this was a machine and they had an aura that defies time. It couldn't happen now. they were the perfect band for that time.
What a time machine, and incredible document of the band at the tail end of an incredible, multi-year run of touring. It is also interesting in that it is an outdoor show, not in an outdoor venue! This is Kiss as absolute ‘70’s superstars, and a great document of ‘70’s comedy goers, and late ‘70’s California!
This is great stuff! Somewhere in that crowd is eleven year old me. I would love to see more of this raw footage, especially of the fans arriving and mingling before sundown. Alas, per the description, this is all that's available.
You see Colossus in the background looking fresh! You can see the scaffolding as it wasn’t quite finished yet. I thought Kiss played inside the park at the Showcase theater but it looks like they set up in the parking lot.
Oh man, I was hoping for some "Rip and Destroy" :) I was in 2nd Grade when the movie came out. This was KISS at their finest. All the classic albums were out, the Alive albums were out, the 4 solos were about to be released. I was all about KISS at the time...then things went awry, but this is so nostalgic. Great footage, and looks pretty much like the inside photo from Alive II. Love this!

I think i heard this concert all the way into my bedroom when i was 10 years old living in T.O. calif. at the time lol :) I heard they had played and was kinda let down to see the Kiss meets the Phantom of the park quick snippet "live" version in the film. Thanks for this.. You made my day.
I asked Paul Stanley (at the official Montreal convention) if they had the footage of the encore concert and he told me no. They only filmed specific sequences for the movie, designed to fit the script and show off special effects etc. He said the cost of filming the whole show in 35 mm was prohibitive.
I would have been in heaven seeing this concert, or any from the 77/78 concert. I was only 7 when Alive II came out, so unfortunately I had to wait until the 79 Dynasty tour.

I remember we (My dad and I) got the tix at Pop Tunes on Summer Avenue. On the back of the tix, they were stamped "view may be obstructed". My 8 year old self asked my mom what obstructed meant. She said "you may not be able to see them". Needless to say I was worried. It all worked out. Had great seats.
At 5:53 I didn't think that they did God of Thunder at this show. I had always wondered what song they were doing there to start the closing credits. Thought maybe it was Let Me Go, Rock 'n' Roll, but it does seem to match up with that section of God of Thunder.

Thank you so much for uploading this. I know the movie was cheesy. But the only thing I like watching it was because of the live film scenes of concert at Magic Mountain. Now I can actually see and know how the whole concert was by seeing all these axtra rare video clips. And how some clips were edited in certain places of the movie. Such as I always thought that Gene blow his fire during I stole your love when it was actually fire house.
I remember cutting thier faces out of 16 magazines and other magazines back then . When they would cover half of their faces and put them together to see what they looked like without thier makeup on . I still have some 16 magazines with nothing but Kiss in them . It was an Awesome time. I've met them so many times and been on Kiss Kruises with them with my Son . That's Awesome to .

I can not only remember the smell of the bubblegum in the trading cards, I remember the waxy kind of feel they had right out of the pack.

Thank you so much for uploading this. I know the movie was cheesy. But the only thing I like watching it was because of the live film scenes of concert at Magic Mountain. Now I can actually see and know how the whole concert was by seeing all these axtra rare video clips. And how some clips were edited in certain places of the movie. Such as I always thought that Gene blow his fire during I stole your love when it was actually fire house.
I remember cutting thier faces out of 16 magazines and other magazines back then . When they would cover half of their faces and put them together to see what they looked like without thier makeup on . I still have some 16 magazines with nothing but Kiss in them . It was an Awesome time. I've met them so many times and been on Kiss Kruises with them with my Son . That's Awesome to .
