This animation took a month and my sanity, I'm not doing this again(maybe sometimes) I'm going back to making animatics. I used a different Techno design because it's fun to experiment a little bit, so I hope you like it (I just want an excuse to animate hair). It wont be my permanent because I also wanted to draw him in his original. His design is inspired by @figgyvevo and @meepbot2 on twitter. There are some scenes I wanna add but the song is too short and I'm lazy and tired.

I watch this now and see just how much things have changed, Technoblades death, Dreams face reveal, and yet, I can still say with certainty that this is undoubtedly the best animation I’ve ever watched. Just knowing how hard it is to animate something a few seconds long, this is an absolute masterpiece. Rest In Peace, Technoblade.

The storyboard value here is really something. Actions scenes are difficult to make, Minecraft duel subtleties are hard to convey, doing both at the same time while also nailing the mood, the energy, and even somehow kinda getting Dream face right pre face reveal is an incredible achievement.
After the first fight when dream clenched his fist, despite the mask not changing at all, I could practically see a determined face underneath anyways

maybe unintentional but a couple things i noticed
technos movements are almost heavy and in the moment, hes very aggressive while dreams are more swift and agile (this imo perfectly suits their personalities and playstyles)
technos kit consists of a fishing rod, sword and bow as you would in 1.8 and dreams uses 1.9 pvp items (a crossbow, shield and axe), techno can use dreams axe and shield probably symbolizing him beating dream in his own version
also dream cuts technos hair with his crown, and in every following sadist dsmp animation featuring techno his hair is shorter :D

After watching this tens of times, it is so appropriate that Techno's movements throughout the duel were so knightly whereas Dream's were agile. This depicts their personalities so well and its so cool to see it in an animation like this.

I love how their preferred versions are represented by the weapons they use, and the fact that Techno has a better mastery of Dream’s version than vice versa is represented by Techno picking up and using first the shield and then the axe. Your animations truly are legendary.

I love how the differences in fighting styles are similar to the differences in the game versions
Techno, pre 1.9 is really fast-paced and graceful with how he fights, like the speed of pre 1.9 combat
Dream is slower and klunkier like 1.9+ conbat.

No one notices how hard animating hair must be, animating Techno’s braid while keeping up with the fight is really under appreciated.
tried Animating rope before and its actually easier
the faces are waay harder to animate since you have tok animate 3 parts(2 eyes and mouths and sometimes nose) that move in different directions while the eyes stay symmetrical and realistic to be considered eyes
The fact that SAD-ist was able to convey that dream was in 1.16 with the shield, axe and crossbow, and that Technoblade was in 1.8 with a sword and regular bow was incredible

and at the end techno won using dreams axe, showing how he adapted to 1.16

I know you're being sarcastic, but SAD-ist actually did incorporate the Chinese way of fighting for Techno in this video. He is very nimble and especially when he draws his bow, very graceful. Dream on the other hand is chopping away with an axe like a murderer. So yeah, SAD-ist put a lot of detail into thought! :)
