I played a table top RPG once, and that was my character's ability, exploding over and over while been invulnerable to it. It was a lot of fun and the GM really had to work to keep up with how crazy things would get.
@@agenerichuman The eversplosion man is definitely my favorite DnD class now.
Watching this after the Manhattan Project video, and it's made me realize that the mechanic where the player gets health back when they kill an enemy was almost certainly meant to be this game's version of the "Ego" system.
Woah
You are right. There is a site called the duke nukem forever museum that has everything related to DNF's development. One document is a e-mail George B. sent to these devs when it was still going to be a Duke Nukem game telling them how the ego health system would work in DNF.
Action Forms:
- The first ones make a dismemberment - Chasm: the Rift 1997. Also in the game there was a wake effect when corpses fell to the floor, and dynamic light / shadow.
- Release Vivisector, where they improve the dissection. A large enough world with smooth background loading, qualitative effect of animal fur.
- Release Cryostasis. Of the distinguishing features: ice, which melts, flowing water, frost. "Winter effects" on top.
For their era, the Carnivores games were pretty solid too. Not at really showing the effects of your gunfire on the animals (it was a hunting sim, after all...) but they did bleed and you could track them by it, and the greater bulk of them had animations where they'd just... be animals that they'd go into while idling sometimes.
Dunno if this was already said or not, but "Back on Earth" line most likely was meant to be "Ground". Russian uses same word for those two.
arciks11 We also use Earth to refer to the ground (specifically dirt), just not very often
@@half-lifescientist1991 Funny that because to use the term earth in English is a very old fashioned way of saying dirt. I guess most people used the term Earth to describe the ground before Astronomy took off.

28:05 Hmm, maybe the bomb panther has to trigger the bomb manually but because the lion dude stuck him into the stasis chamber thing, the lion is safe.
What a fever dream of a game though. I love how it's specifically the black panther that turns invisible. Like they thought what would make sense thematically not from a scientific standpoint. Fire breathing tigers because orange? Rams with shotguns since they wanna get up close and personal and "ram" you. Spec ops wolves because they're like lone wolf operators. The lion is the leader because he's the king of the animals?
It means the scientists could have actually chosen to make fire breathing rams, gorillas that turn invisible, etc...
In addition, why not apply multiple upgrades to one creature? Invisible fire breathing gorillas with grenades. In fact, with cybernetics this advanced, why bother with different types of animals at all? Just give cattle the same robo parts, that's what's really giving them abilities, right? In fact, skip the genetically engineered occasionally sentient animals, just make robots.

Goddamn, I spent so much time on Soldier of Fortune. As an aside, RDR2 impressed me with the gore effects. I thought because of the increased graphical fidelity, big studios were becoming squeamish about viscera - Rockstar said "hold my snake-oil" and put some gnarly shit into the game. It's pretty great, I also find it hilarious that the human gore textures are shown glistening in all their glory but they made the skinned animal textures a lower resolution. Human gore? No problem. The skinned carcasses of hunted animals? QUICK RUB VASELINE OVER IT SO NO ONE PROTESTS!
