FUN FACT: Denzel said his own wife told him he'd better bring his A-game when he told her who was in the movie. He thought she meant Christopher Walken, but she meant Dakota Fanning. 😂
I wonder if she said the same thing about "The Equalizer 3"?
Dakota had been in Spielberg's Taken series at hat point, as well as I Am Sam.
Ironically despite her very successful child acting career her younger sister Elle's adult career has considerably passed hers, and Elle had a very good child acting career too at that - her performance in Phoebe In Wonderland was amazing.

2nd sequels are very seldom worth it.
In my opinion the original didn't even warrant a sequel, and the plot for Equalizer 2 was pretty dim at that.
I just commented about Dakota Fanning on a different video. I interviewed her for I Am Sam. She was seven. She was so good, one of the other far more experienced interviewers said, once she left, "Is she 35?" She was in charge. I was amazing. My boss later interviewed her and Elle when they revoiced My Neighbor Totoro. When Dakota was alone, it was like interviewing a very intelligent adult. When she was with the 5 year old Elle, she was suddenly a 9 year old kid playing with her sister. It was both a jarring, but refreshing diffence in personality. It was good she still knew how to be a kid.
This was the first time I saw Dakota and I was completely blown away.
To quote Sin City: "An old man dies, a little girl lives. Fair trade."
Sin City literally came out the next year too, not impossible that they used MOF as inspiration as Hollywood is rife with plagiarism - just look at the multiple reality bending films that came out right after Dark City.
@mnomadvfx I agree with you about Hollywood, but not in this case. Sin City is taken from a graphic novel written by Frank Miller done long before MOF. Pretty much every scene and the dialog in Sin City come from the graphic novel.

If you ever get to his Equalizer movies, Denzel and Dakota are reunited almost 20 years later in part 3. Their interviews are great. Love that stayed buddies. 😀😀

Denzel never disappoints… and while anyone could have played Creasy’s friend, only Christopher Walken could have delivered the line “Creasey’s art is death, and he’s about to paint his masterpiece…” with the casual, subtle yet chilling tone only he can do.
Completely agree. Dakota Fanning and Radha Mitchell's performances are so powerful. It's a sin Radha Mitchell hasn't had more opportunities based on this performance alone.
The chemistry between Washington and Fanning is absolutely the core of this film and what makes this movie go.

You said he should have his own franchise like Die Hard and Taken....he does. It's called The Equalizer.
It does kind of feel like Creasy reborn in those films.

Man I wish more reactors would get to this one. I always recommend this anytime they watch a Denzel movie and many support but they never seem to get to it or it loses their patreon polls perhaps. This is a fantastic movie with some brilliant lines “Creasy’s art is death….and he’s about to paint his masterpiece.” Really glad you’re able to experience this movie

The original "Man on Fire" was released in 1987 starring Scott Glenn ("Silverado", "The Right Stuff") and takes place in Italy with the mafia as kidnappers. Tony Scott was to direct, but the producers, rethinking their choice, thought him too inexperienced which is why Scott was "excited" about the opportunity to do the remake.
Then Denzel commits Creasy on Creasy crime in Training Day 😲💀
U forgot a big movie w/Scott Glenn SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
I actually know Scott Glenn best as "Stick" from the Netflix version of "Dare Devil" and his old war buddy in that one is played by Joe Pesci. It's not a bad version but this version is definitely better by a lot.
Did I see actual tears fall?? That's a rare reaction from you (at least from the videos that I've watched). I truly cannot watch someone else watch this movie without crying myself. The ending gets me every time and seeing it get other people just hits me even harder.
You can watch this movie a hundred times and if you arent crying at the end even after that many views you have an ice cube for a heart. So well done by every actor to convey that emotion to the viewer
When Denzel did Equalizer 3, they got Dakota Fanning to be in the movie because they did this movie together. Equalizer 3 gave Denzel a chance to see Dakota all grown up.
Lol Denzel doesn't live under a rock, he knew how she acts as an adult even if they hadn't done another film since MOF.

Still my favorite Denzel film. I vividly remember seeing this one at the theater back in 04. Watched it solo. After it ended i sat in my car for about 10 minutes staring off into space tryin to collect myself before i could leave.
This movie always seems to hit the heart and bring tears...For the growth that came from love, the loss that came from the sacrifice for justice, and the sadness knowing that we live in a world where such extremity is far too common.

Creasy 🐻 didn't actually die, though true story, he went back to C.I.A. honed even more deadly tactical skills, and took on the name Robert McCall and became the Equalizer.
Which is funny, because in the book, she died. Dad tried to fake the ransom, but she died anyway.
btw he gives himself up because he knows hes already about dead from the shot in the chest that you seem to not have noticed.
DENZEL is consistently great but i think FALLEN is an underrated gem

This is second adaptation of this story. First one from the 80s takes place in Italy - just like the novel, and mail character is played by Scott Glenn. Fun fact, main musical theme from this movie was used in Die Hard finale, as John McClane meets Sargent Al Powell for the first time. Next part of the sequence with unexpected appearance of Karl followed by shootout, is musically illustrated by unused cue from Aliens. This tune appears on soundtrack CD, but not in the movie.
I love this film so much. It so easily could have been a generic action movie, but everyone involved elevated it to something special.
There's a bit of a backstory behind the production of this film.
The original was filmed in the 80s, and at that time Tony Scott was in the running to direct it but the producers at the time felt he lacked the experience to pull it off.
When a remake came on the slate years later Scott got his chance the second time around.
Also fun fact - there's actually a bit of the soundtrack from the original Man on Fire film in Die Hard as John and Holly McClaine emerge from the Nakatomi building and meet Sgt Al Powell at the end.
Love this movie to death. Dakota took my heart with this one
One of my favorite favorite favorite movies of all time! Saw it in the theater by myself, and I think it was the first time a movie made me tear up since I saw Bambi when I was three years old. Thank you for watching this. ❤
It definitely touched a raw nerve, but I sobbed like a child when I watched Maximus die in Gladiator, for much the same reasons.
It has the same bittersweet ending where the antagonists gets their comeuppance, but the protagonist dies anyway, and somehow while you are sad for his death you are also happy that he has rejoined his family in Elysium.
"So, do you think they chose the glitchy cam, too, 'cause he might be impaired all the time?" Shan, you're watching a Tony Scott film. It's his trademark style.
Those last moments remind me of Gladiator
PROOF OF LIFE is a good kidnapping movie with Russell Crowe and Meg Ryan.
I love all 5 Tony Scott/Denzel Washington collaborations! This one is ruthless.
I think the "docu cam" shaky cam style was popular around that time because of The Bourne Identity films, in particular The Bourne Supremacy which came out the same year as Man on Fire
Popular but very annoying.
Supremacy's story was great, but Greengrass's freehand camera style was easily the worst part of it vis a vis watching the hand to hand fighting scenes.
Identity was bad enough, but Supremacy was sooo much worse there.

I believe an alternate ending to this movie is Denzel's character surrendering himself but he's "packed" a bomb up himself like he did earlier to the other guy. You hear his watch go off, and the car they're going off in explode. But they went another way because it'd be too hard to really follow.
Dakota is among the most brilliant child actors in cinema history. Her crying in the back seat at the end made the scene because of how believable the anguish was. Favorite Denzel movies are Training Day and American Gangster, Man on Fire is third.
29:00 YES!!! My favorite line. I don’t know why. The movie is absolutely full of beautiful moments and my favorite is the half naked dude taped to the car and Denzel saying “I wish.. you had.. more time”. Love it. The vengeance is so sweet in this movie
One the most outstanding movies that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. So moving and keeps the watcher glued to the story. The acting was so sensational from every actor. Awesome reaction Shanelle! ❤ 1st time I saw it was in Iraq 2005 on a dodgy dvd bought off the street for $2. Still have the dodgy dvd and it still works!
FANTASTIC!! I do believe that you skipped over one if not the most important parts of the movie. When Creasy tried to kill himself and the gun failed to fire when he was out in the courtyard totally broken and talking to Rayburn , he looks up after his phone conversation and looking down on him like a guardian angel is Pita. The irony is hes been hired to protect her yet it's Pita that saves him. Great job of reviewing an ELITE movie. Denzel's & Dakota's best.
They have stayed in touch for decades and Dakota is close with his daughter who was her college buddy. They still have the same amazing chemistry now that they had 20 years ago. I loved how Pita saw Creasy and just ran to him and how she knew in the end she was never going to see him again. A life for a life

I love this movie but my favorite Denzel movie is "John Q" and i dont think enough people have watched it let alone reacted to it. That movie has a COMPLETELY different feeling to me now with my middle son's cancer diagnosis (brain tumor). By the grace of God he has been in remission for over 4 years now ❤️

Everytime I hear Dakota Fanning's voice from when she was a child star, I think of Satsuki from My Neighbor Totoro as that is the Dakota Fanning film that comes to my mind first when I think of her.

Great analysis on the script, Tony Scott’s direction and use of quick clips, Creasy paying for his past at the end, the performances, etc…. I would also add another element that needs to mentioned-the use of music. The use of Linda Rodstant’s Blue Bayou and its relevance to the script; as well as, the use of Mexican folk music at the end were outstanding.

Chillingly beautiful! That sweet little girl penetrated the heart of a hardened CIA/Black Ops badass who thought his soul was beyond redemption for the things he'd done. It's not about who we once were, it's who we rise to be in the moments that count.
Great reaction Shanelle like always, love this movie. I don't know how many times I've seen this, but every time he says, "She calls the bear 'Creasy Bear'", it almost brings me to tears. It's just an incredibly powerful moment. “Creasy’s art is death… he’s about to paint his masterpiece.” Such a good line and being expertly delivered by an icon like Walken comes as no surprise. Keep up the good work.

I saw Man on Fire in theaters when it came out. To this day, this is my favorite Tony Scott, and it might be my favorite Denzel. The performances and filmmaking here are so powerful. This is not just another action movie, it has a lot more depth and scope than that.

Scott Glenn played Creasey in the 1987 version of this movie. Coincidentally, he also played a relatively small character called "Roger" in 2001 in Training Day. Which of course, starred Denzel Washington.

39:00 Tony Scott definitely had a “style”. If you watch a few of his movies, especially ones from this era, they tend to have this style. It reminds me of how Oliver Stone used to style his movies. Heavy handed. Tarantino does this too… when he’s feeling stylish. Not the same way, but heavily enough to make the viewer ask who directed it.
I always remember the Tarantino quote on the front cover lol : "Hard as hell". Dakota nd Denzel are great together! One of my other fav collabs is Gene Hackman (one of my other fav actors) and Denzel, just going toe-to-toe in Crimson Tide. 🔥

Same here. I'll check Fallen out myself, never even heard of that one. My recommendation: Virtuosity, with Russell Crowe. First time I saw either one.

Denzel Washington is one of my favorite actors. Him and Chris Pratt were amazing together in The Magnificent Seven.

I saw this opening weekend and I kinda feel bad because I recognize it's fantastically made and has some great performances, but it gives me motion sickness and I had a very hard time keeping up with it. Even in later years when I try it's just difficult.

My first junket was I Am Sam. The second person in the room was a seven year old Dakota Fanning. She walks in with her mom and the woman handling her at the event. That lady says, "You sit here." She and her mother walk over to a corner and quietly converse, completely ignoring Dakota. The moment Dakota sat down, she was in charge. You could feel the power shift. "Hi, I'm Dakota. What's your name and question?" Every question got a paragraph long response, and nothing felt rehearsed. When she left, the older guys who had been doing this for years started with, "What is she, 35?" "She was one of the best interviews I've done." "Way better than DeNiro." This was her first junket as well. Did I mention seven years old?

Love this movie. Some top quality lines here, and not all by Denzel or Mr Walken. They were known for being corrupt, and now celebrated for being dead.

I love this movie & watch it just about every time it comes on television. U know, Mexico City is known for kidnapping people. When I was a kid, I would go w/my grandparents to visit family in Mexico. 1 time, when I was a few weeks away from my 12th b-day, I traveled w/my grandparents to see my great aunt (grandfather's sister) who lived on a farm about 45minutes to an hour from Mexico City. While we drove down the road, I could see a city in the distance off to the left. I asked my grandfather what city it was.
"O, that Mexico City," he replied.
"Are we going there?," I asked.
"Ay que no," he exclaimed. "It's to dangerous for u."
"For me?," I questioned. "Why?"
My grandfather said something to my grandmother in spanish that I didn't understand. My grandmother answered in english "take".
My grandfather reacted w/a "Ay si! The bad mans will try to take u."
"U mean, someone will try & kidnap me?!"I said.
"Si mija, that why we no go."
That was in 1984. I was flabbergasted by the thought of someone possibly wanting to kidnap me. Anyway, getting back to the movie. This is 1 of my favorite Denzel Washington performances. I put his performance in GLORY above this 1 though. Ur comment about Denzel's character needing to be in a TAKEN/JOHN WICK kind of movie franchise struck me as odd. Did u not realize/know that Denzel did THE EQUALIZER movies? I also love those movies.😊 The youngest I remember seeing Dakota Fanning was in Steven Spielberg's TV mini series Taken which was about the Roswell crash & aliens. It also has a little Anton Yelchin. I think Dakota was the same age for the mini series as she was for I AM SAM, but not sure which came 1st. When I saw her in MAN ON FIRE, I thought 1. Man this kid is a phenomenal actress, & 2. She seems like an "old soul".😊 I don't think I ever saw u get this emotional in your other reactions. I really enjoyed this reaction.😊👍
Denzel went on to do the Equalizer films, basically a franchise of the same character, less alcoholic.
This is one of my go-to movies. Bought right after I saw it for the first time and I am able to go back to it over and over. I think it helps being the parent of a daughter as I think all fathers secretly hope that they could always protect their daughter from anything.
I can't remember exactly what I was doing but I do remember buying this on VHS a long while ago add still have it in my collection, it's sits in my top 200 moives of my collection 😊

I think people were put off by this movie's slow first act.... but, for me, it's why it's one of my favorite movies. The fact that they took their time developing characters made me give a rats @ss about them.

I looked up Rhoda Mitchell's filmography, she is in both Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen.
This is one of my favorite movies. It’s not a true story. It’s actually a book series of 5 books by A.J. Quinnell. Man on Fire is the first book and it goes more into his backstory. Definitely check them out when you get the chance. Great vid and stay blessed! 🙌🏽✊🏽❤️
There's a Blu-ray version of this movie that got released in the UK that plays in US players that had a bunch of bonus features that for some reason were only on the US DVD. If you want a physical copy of this 8 would import that one.
